I would love to see more of Imperialis, even if it's a small specialist game! I'm getting into Iron Hands for my force, and have some proxies (Breachers along with my tacticals with the core box for instance) to really give it that stubborn feel!

The fantasy game was Warmaster. It has a fan version now called Warmaster Revolution and is alive and well, with ton's of third parties making armies for it. It is 10mm, so slightly larger than this game, and it's the best rules that GW ever put out.

The Solar Auxilia were actually the elite arm of the Imperial Forces. There was the Imperial Army which consisted of all the forces of normal humans. The Auxilia made up 25%, even owning their own fleet. If one was to compare the Imperial Army to the Guard of 40k the Solar Auxilia are more on the grade of the Scions. They have better gear and more elite training. They were meant as the replacement of the Legiones Astartes, as the Space Marines’ numbers weren’t enough to fill the fronts.

Re Battlefleet gothic comment - the orginal lead designer Andy Chambers wrote the rules for Dropfleet commander with David Lewis which feels like a spirtual succesor to BFG. The newest rules play very well, has alternative activation and very objective focused.

I actually like this type of video more than the 40 minutes ones. Reason being that felt more part of the battle and the experices of learning compared to a short trailer version of 40min. Love it

at 2:41:15 when you were shooting the titan your supposed to fire everything then the opponent would choose the order to resolve hits so he could have taken the heavier weapons on the shields and the lighter weapons after the shields fell. Its page 56 and 57 of the book.

Regarding the differences between the two armies (question asked about an hour in), in addition to the special rules I think it’s probably worth considering the units available and that we know are due to come out. Marines have lots of transport options (rhinos, land raiders, drop pods, thunderhawks) and fast attack units (speeders, bikes). They’re fast and in your face. Solars have more big guns (Baneblades, Stormhammers, artillery), they’re slower and shootier.

Damn, that board looks good. I played Epic Space Marine (and before that, the original Adeptus Titanicus) wayyy back in the late 80s/early 90s and the scenery we've got now is sooo much better than the cardstock and styrofoam buildings we had back then. The minis are much more sharply detailed as well. The plastic mold-injection minis were terribly un-detailed back then. The metal minis were (somewhat) better, but still nothing compared to the plastic minis in the Legion Imperialis edition. Many of us have been waiting for 30+ years for the return of Epic scale. Small wonder that GW cannot keep it in stock even several months after release. At least this means we should see the expansion of the game into other factions. I want my Epic 'Nids!

I never played original epic, and so really had no interest in legions imperialis until now. but this livestream really changed my opinion, it looks really fun! it reminds me of a larger scale version of kill team, with the alternating activations and importance on positioning your units properly! time to go buy the starter box and force my friends to start playing it with me.

Many of the rules are from Net Epic Gold so you can start with the tau rules there and likely lots of existing 3d sculpts that people can upsize.

I am pondering you guys saying alternating actions takes longer. Most games, not GW (KoW not one) are alternating. And they are much faster then you go I go. One way to help speed up is maybe have a game clock so one cant use to much time on ones own turn?

I need to remember if the statement about longer was gameplay or to produce and edit a game. I think you are right that alternating can be played faster. They are more challenging in production / edit however.

Cameras in some terrain to get up close shots like over an objective would be cool. Put a camera in the shipping container terrains that are by a point for example

I am making a tiny tau farisght enclave army as well, already printed a Tau'nar a stormsurge and a riptide, just shrunk them down to 25%, they are very cute.

How might you keep track of what's shot and what hasn't? In a 3000 point game there's going to be dozens of units in each sub phase!

When a unit has shot you remove its order token. So only units with an order token left are valid choices.

I'm really intrigued to how a 1000 pts game would play out on a 3x3 I guess you just lose the depth of deployment and your back objective would sit against your table edge. it would be so much easier to setup on a standard table though.

About 1hr59m in you were taking Ogryns off without making any Cover saves. Infantry Garrisoned get a 4+ Cover Save.

Interesting. It’s fundamental in playing 40K but disqualifying it has always added a tactical angle to Titanicus and a failure point. I just got my imperialis boxes so I’ll look it up.

i really like the idea of Imperialis, but i fear it will be just like the other specialist or boxed games (titanicus, aeronautica, BFG) and just die after a few months. making it HH i think also hinders it as you can't bring in most xenos or later 40k armies. Balanced for 3k which is a pretty long game might hurt finding games. While i've only seen a few lower points games it seems like the solar auxilary is slightly disadvantaged compared to marines. I think you can make some awesome games when you have aircraft, titans/knights, and just huge armies.

After watching this, the rules don't seem like an improvement on 8th Apocalypse. The faux alternating activation, where they have dogmatically stuck to phases for some massively ignorant reason, just seem to make the game needlessly convoluted and confusing. Why not just carry out your orders like 8th Apocalypse did? System makes no sense. It's a shame that GW players don't know how to play any rules set but the newest one their Games Workshop overlords command them to. I'll be sticking to 8th Apocalypse instead of picking these rules up. This rules set has nothing worth adopting.
