Ahead of the release of the hotly anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife film launching in 2021, the LEGO Group have announced the largest and most detailed LEGO brick recreation of one of the most iconic cars from the silver screen, the Ghostbusters ECTO-1.
This buildable version of the classic car is sure to delight Ghostbusters and LEGO brick fans alike, crammed full of authentic details from the iconic converted 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance which is sure to bring a retro feel to any LEGO brick car collection. This highly detailed set includes a range of tools and features needed by any Ghostbuster to track and catch ghoulish enemies.
The LEGO Ghostbusters ECTO-1 is perfect for film fans that want to build their very own piece of the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie. With a moving ghost sniffer activated by the wheels, an extendable rear gunner seat, working steering wheel and a whole host of other paranormal detection equipment on the detailed roof rack, the set ensures you’re ready for any ghost finding mission. When Mike Psiaki is involved, you know it’s gonna be a great set. Both my favorite sets (Saturn V, Blue Power Jet) he either designed or was one of the designers. He always comes up with cool functions or techniques, and the end product is guaranteed to be sleek.

3:28 That exact bag of marshmallows was also seen in the scene in Dana Barrett's kitchen counter when her eggs started breaking on the counter and cooking on its own. You can see the bag of marshmallows right beside it.

The instructions have the old Chilton Manual look.... which makes sense, considering the age of the Ecto-1... perhaps, in the movie, they use a Chilton Manual to repair the car. Adding another level to the attention of detail Lego put into this build.....

I have this set. Took me about 10hours too build. Positive: - The building techniques in this set are amazing! - the moving parts work very well - cool hinges for the doors - grill of the car is extremely detailed Negative: -Missed oportunity of adding something too keep the hood of the car open. - The only stickers that should have been added are the rust stickers... for the rest there shouldnt have been any stickers... A custom display with the figures would have been the icing on the cake. But all and all very happy with my purchase!! Hoping for a Delorean next 🤞

The front cover of the manual is heavily reminiscent of a Haynes Manual, which is a famous series of car maintenance books here in the UK, pre internet days they were the best way for an amateur mechanic to maintain their car.

There isn’t much to change to make it 1984.. ignore the rust stickers, move the ladder, and put the gunner seat door on backwards if possible. The real mod challenge is making it into the Ecto 1A from Ghostbusters 2.

@@Eaglescout217 yup, but it wasn’t there in 1984. Lore wise we still don’t know if the Ecto 1 and 1A are separate cars... I’m hoping GB3 will explain but I’m guessing its just a lazy retcon

There are stickers to represent rust. This is meant to represent the aged ecto 1 from Ghostbusters Afterlife.

The original movie has the Stay-Puft marshmallows a couple times. The nineteen min thirteen secs into the movie, Dana pulls a bag of them out of her shopping bag. Then sixteen secs later there is a zoom closeup of them when the eggs are popping.

@@allthehardtimes Yes I know. But if you watched "The Real Ghostbusters" animated show, they had the gunner seat. So, as I said, they (in the movie) are incorporating this as an homage to the TV show, and thus, the model has it too. Why don't people listen?

I made my own echo 1 out of differ t color bricks and the pointy clear read pieces as the tail lights back in the 80s with whatever spare legos pieces I had. This is nice I’ll place it next to the 89 batmobile. 😜

Yeah I’ve seen that show too, it’s so cool! I actually remember seeing a toy at some point with a gunner seat, but it was on the car roof instead of popping out on the side.

Ha just finished this great set this evening after getting it delivered this morning, it really is a fantastic model to build with some very clever building techniques and mechanisms, however I had to change two minor details not because they were wrong but because they annoyed the hell out of me. No 1- both wing mirrors had to be symmetrical! No 2- changed the two 2x1 clips at base of ladder to one 2x1 clip and added a 1x1 black brick to either side to fill the gap. Sorted! Great vid by the way.

Looks great, albeit expensive. Glad I passed on the Batwing because this is much more satisfying, they really got the curves and roof array details down. Looks like it is adapted for the Afterlife film but still the OG Ectomobile and not the one they used for the female-led film.

I bought it, finished building it and i left out the rust stickers. Looks so good! Better looking without the rust stickers imo. Less cheaper looking. The working features makes it so satisfying too! So big that it dwarfs my 1/18 Ecto-1!

Built bags 1 and 2 today and ask Siri to play the theme music to Ghostbusters.. man there's a ton of stuff we only heard clips of and really nostaglic. Bag 2 got me to popping in the functional gunner seat and I'm really excited to see how it turns out. Personally I added the rust stickers because it's really Ecto 1.1 and really needs to be all it could be :)

just got this set in the beginning of January, the site was sold out for like 2 months. I have'nt had time to sit and build the whole thing so i am doing it one bag at a time as I get the opportunity. I am on bag 4 next and this thing already weighs a ton!

i wish the set would give you the option to move the ladder to the other side and have the gunner door open the regular way. Either way the ladder should be easy to relocate to correct side and skip on applying stickers and good to go

Something i noticed on page 64, it shows a piece of lego that hasn't been added in the build process on past pages and its thrown me out trying to build it, have a look and see for yourself
