Great video. Excited to see the results. Today I returned an A74 I had rented. I too am normally a Nikon guy. The focus ability and workflow of the Sony was refreshingly simple. I took some of the best photos I’ve ever taken.

Great videos, nice setup, fantastic lighting.......I have a Leica, I use Fuji mostly but I think you are accurate about the Leica experience. I think it is a special experience with a special satisfaction because the best results don't come easy.

P.S. That Voigtlander 75mm 1.5 is an amazing portrait lens. Good choice!

In my opinion there Leica is just a camera. That means a black box with a sensor and some electronic with it. If there's something special about it then it's in my opinion the design (which looks great for me) and the lack of several things like sensor stabilization, autofocus and built in electronic viewfinder. What could make a difference to other camera brands are the lenses. And unfortunately I need to say they are great, but imho completely overpriced. If you're looking for lenses for your Leica M, check out the Voigtlander lenses like the Apo Lanthar 50mm f2 or 35mm f2 Apo Lanthar. There quite affordable and extremely sharp. If you prefer lenses with more character and a certain vintage look, have a closer look at the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2. The bokeh is amazing. But do you need a Leica camera for it? No, those Voigtlander lenses are also available for Sony E mount (and even with electrical contacts).

Stick a Helios 44 on the Sony - pretty wild - you will lose that clinical look for sure - crazy bokeh is not everyones taste but it’s a fun test - and the lens is like 80 bucks

I use a Leica M10 and I don’t get why you think it’s so slow. It’s so simple that it’s really fast to shoot with…

In this specific situation with wide aperture glass, it’s really hard to lock in focus wide-open, almost impossible to do it if you’re shooting hand held. The hit rate is very low, in my experience - I personally have to use a tripod - but if the model moves at all, it can result in a slightly less than ideal photo. Granted, I recognize the Leica and this lens weren’t necessarily set up for this kind of photography, but in a portrait situation like this to me, working with a Leica is very slow.. When shooting wide aperture glass on a Leica, I found that because the depth of field is so thin, it’s particularly challenging to get good focus most of the time. That’s all I meant by slow, and it was probably in this specific situation

@@DarrenMiles If you use the EVF you can hit focus 100% of the time handheld at f1. With the rangefinder unless the camera is exactly calibrated you might mis-focus a fast 50 or 90.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I've tried handheld with the EVF zoomed in on many occasions, but I've found that even if I (or my subject) moves even a little bit at such a thin depth of field my result isn't as tack sharp as I know the lens and camera are capable - my results are more consistent with a tripod... It's likely your hands and trigger finger are steadier than mine. BTW - great work on your channel - keep it up!
