OLEDs don't allow for as bright screens, which is important for a portable device. Also, gaming just generally makes burn-in a worse issue. MicroLED is the way to go, but it'll be a long time before it's more common.

@@LordCapsisand raise the price as well, battery life isn't that big a problem for Lenovo as they have bypass charging so you can turn off the battery and plug into a wall or use a power bank as extendable battery on the go

@@dcon1891 I disagree on that, Vita had bangers, sure Sony didn't support it like they should have(although early on they did put some really awesome games on it, most of the Sony staples were there)and because of that many AAA Devs didn't support it much, however on the AA, indie and Japanese scene, the Vita had tons of support and really great games. It all just depends on what type of games you like

@@linxblackfall6619 Their whole OS is based around the fact their chip is x86-64 so it doesn't need to emulate the x86-64 architecture because the majority of the games are written for that architecture. The only thing the steam deck needs to emulate is windows (through Proton) since SteamOS is based in the Linux kernel. Going for an arm chip means they would have to either ask developers to develop their games to be compatible with arm (absolutely unfeasible) or use an internal emulator which would mean an immense performance loss.

The glasses alone make for a good display option or alternative to VR displays. Even a modern laptop with broken screen could be used again. I reckon the next iteration (Ryzen 8000) will be where the party really begins. 4 more cores, 8 more threads, 4 extra CUs of revised RDNA 3.5...

man, i hope they can add like an external GPU to the like charging dock (like switch dock but with an external gpu) but if you dont have an external monitor you can just plug the egpu from a 2nd port

No one is talking about it because the AMD Z1 Extreme has diminishing returns from 18 Watts and Going over 30 Watts gives basically no additional performance

@@smiffenwesson2281Steam deck is more customisable and specifically designed to work with steamOS, meaning, more optimisation. I can imagine this device being hard to work with on windows. I’d say have both, steam deck for steamOS, and this for windows.

I just wish everything but the deck didn’t look like someone trying to fit into a muscle shirt they don’t fit into. They’re not sleek enough for the look they’re going for. They look ugly as hell and they really don’t have to. Just go for the soft matte plastic and it’ll hit *so* much better.

Better? It uses the same Ryzen chip as the ally. You’re getting the SAME performance if not worse, cause no VRR. It also has a higher resolution so it will struggle a bit more trying to push those extra pixels out. People care more about the actual performance, meanwhile you trying to convince us this is “better” than the ally just because of detachable controllers that will drain your battery life 😒yes, those need to be charged too.

Friend bought it and got it yesterday and came over to show off. Thing is legit, and amazing. He played Cyberpunk, GTA 5 and stalker anomaly (which needed special software to recognize controller) but overall this thing is a beast and has it's worth where it says. Buy it before it jumps up in price, this should be worth twice what it is imo.

I love the stand and detachable controllers but the lack pf VRR and and limited to 25w tdp makes me glad i got the Ally. If didnt have either itd definitely be a difficult choice, but for me performance is king and I worry the Legions lower tdp will hamstring it. Id lie to see some benchmarks.

I have the ASUS Rog ally and previously a steam deck. just gonna say it out loud, the AMD Z1 extreme APU (same one used in the ally) ain’t powerful enough to run at 1080p for games like Diablo 4 and Baldurs gate 3 at 60fps and you will need to downscale to 720p and let FSR upscale back to 1080p for a smooth gaming experience and honestly it still looks ok - just…) but that’s fine for a mobile gaming devicd. QHD is really pointless with this APU . It would have been amazing if they paired with a FHD Oled, the 7 inch screen on the Rog Ally is a still a bit too small for pc gaming . Having said all that, gotta admit the amd z1 extreme chip does a mighty fine job for a mobile chip. So much better than my steam deck and it can play any AAA titles (not just steam published titles) as long as you are willing to crank everything down to medium and use FSR. I use the Rog Ally more than my 4090 PC rig these days for non FPS games. FPS games i play like Escape from Tarkov and Six days in Fallujah or even PUBG needs a keyboard and mouse period. I didn’t even bother to install these titles on the Rog ally. Expect to be constantly plugged into the wall charger, battery life is terrible. On battery, for games like Diablo 4, at 15w setting, I get slightly less than an hour. Imagine what these things can do in 3 years time, so glad to see these products come out this year and looking forward to swapping to the Legion Go just for a a larger screen and wish it had VRR. These new APUs are truly making PC gaming on an handheld a reality (though with lots of caveats), just don’t expect 1080p at ultra out of the box with no supersampling for the latest titles.
