I have one of these. For some reason, the person who had this ThinkPad before me couldn’t install Windows to the 256GB hard drive. He could only install it to the hidden 16GB SSD. Removing it and trying again.

why 16gb m.2 ssd is used?? can we replace it with 512gb m.2 ssd as boot device??

Because the sellers are scammers... they use Intel optane, which is garbage. You can replace it and put the os on the larger one.

turns on laptop and keeps tapping enter to boot from lan. What you see on screen aint win manager its a boot select. Maybe select to boot from disk and not ipx.

Unfortunately, only single-sided 2242 m.2 SATA SSDs fit to this adapter. Have not seen single sided 2242 with capacity more than 16 GB. Otherwise, the WWAN slot of T440(s) and T450(s) supports double-sided SATA SSDs

TS512GMTS430S - Works in wireless-WAN card, installed Win10 - after installing the ssd you have to remove the sata drive and plug this drive in the external enclosure for system cloning. After the first system boot, you can plug the clean drive into the sata. Hello, I learned that T450s, as well as T480 and the regular T450 non-s also have this 16GB device. I was curious and ran data recovery on the 16gb SSD. only files I found seemed to be proprietary Lenovo files such as a .Gif of a silverlight logo, and also some truetype fonts and a .CMH file. I am curious, will the removal of the 16gb SSD always break a default-manufacturer configured lenovo laptop's windows boot such as in this video?

3:10 I installed Linux Mint on that 16 GB M.2 SATA SSD 2242. I assume up to 1TB can be installed today but not sure about cooling it.

Can you make a video showing where the NGFF board cable is plugged into the motherboard/how to install the NGFF board & cable? (Only the t450s's that came with an hdd, had this board which carried a 16gb cache ssd). I took apart my t450s, and when I look at photos of models that have the NGFF card, it looks as though the taped-over cable is plugged in where the clickpad is on mine. Before ordering parts, I want to be certain my motherboard has the needed socket? (I.e., I wanr to confirm lenovo didn't make a different mobo for models that didn't come with the 16gb cache drive.)

I just disassemble the computer as shown in your video and it doesn't even have the adapter where yours has the SSD M.2 installed, do you happen to know where can I purchase it or what's the name of the adapter? @@camilo8665 there won't be an improvement. Better to get a larger 2.5" sata SSD if you want more storage.

@@dee.f88 that's not how it works. You wouldn't know unless you were a content creator. KZfaq doesn't notify you of replies to comments and there's no easy way to see them all. They decide what comments you get to see. Even when looking at replies, they don't all show up. It'll tell you how many replies there are, but only show the first few.

@@ItsBinhRepaired in my T450s, in place of the SSD you've shown, there's the smart card reader that takes cards such as credit cards. It's mostly for business. But... My friend has a T450 without the reader (the reader hole is filled with plastic) and he'll check in a while if he has the SSD in there. I'm interested myself.
