Diese Arie ist für mich eine der Schönsten der ganzen Opernwelt und dazu diese beiden Interpreten - Genuss pur!!!

Better late to opera than never and this is yet another celestial performance to have stumbled upon - ah...who would have thought the great Pappano, orchestra, and these two beautiful singing beings could ascend to these divine heights! It has been a revelation, too, to encounter utter emotional conviction in opera and this is never less than startlingly true of the great acting, as well as singing, of the irreplaceable Jonas Kaufmann.

This reminds me of a year I spent between proper jobs one summer in the 1990's in Italy. I was working on a campsite on the shores of the beautiful Lago di Garda. I took the opportunity to go to the Arena in Verona to see Butterfly. We arrived early and I noted three young girls take the stone seats in front of me. They looked a touch furtive, as though they should not be there. Anyway it came to this love duet, I cannot remember the singers now, but as far as I was concerned they were good. As the last note was sung and the music died, in that quiet moment, the three girls together heaved a collective sigh of...... pleasure and maybe ecstacy. Then the audience roared and the moment was gone, truly though, a golden moment!

Wow. I would not have predicted that these two voices would work so beautifully together. I am blown away. At last, we have a recording of this duet that truly rivals Freni-Pavarotti-Karajan.

The first time I heard Angela sing was about 15 years ago. She sang Liu,s first aria from Turandot. It was absolutely perfect. Such a major talent she has been thouout these years. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral

This may be my absolute favorite Vogliatemi Bene on record. Gheorgiu is in the stratosphere here and the virility of Kaufmann’s singing is unmatched; the power, artistry and build up are sensational. Bravo to Pappano as well for leading such a magnificent performance. Worthy or surpassing the great historical performances. This performance makes all other banal life pursuits seem incredibly secondary.

How beuatiful, even the orchestra players realize they are lisitening and a part of perfection. n

Let's not idolize older singers just because they already died or are very old. Most of the times I prefer the singers of past generations over the current ones, but that's not a general law we must obey (though it often seems so in the Opera world). IMO Gheorghiu and Kaufmann in this duet achieved the same beauty, feeling and stylistical accuracy of most of the greatest singers who sang this duet in past decades. This is really amazing in every way.

This message is also from a "Pinkerton" These two singers, singing Puccini, can't be beat and this is one of the most glorious duets of this composer. Marvelous, wonderful, exciting. They blend like 'bread and butter', or better, sweeter, like 'peaches and cream.

Ladies and Gentlmen. These are two of the Greatest voices of our Time! They are in their vocal Prime. Their musical interpretation is spot on with All of Puccini's markings in the score. They Soar over the orchestra with power and ease. Anyone who calls Kauffman's voice Ugly obviously has never sung. I sing this repertoire and he is at the pinnacle of the art. A spin to who is almost a Dramatic...that is how they sound. There are So many soubrette sopranos and tenorinos polluting the Italian repertoire, that these two stand out. They Are Great singers!! I have spent my life teaching Opera Singers. ..these two are the REAL DEAL! Being critical of these talents is like saying that young Elizabeth Taylor was ugly because you only like Blondes! Every Real singer and Opera fan in the World recognizes the breathtaking talent of these two Artists. (and they are kind and supportive colleagues to boot!)
