Can't thank you enough. I've had twists no matter how I approached it, and this finally breaks down for me how to avoid them!

What do I do if I run out of my core thread before I finish my project?

I don't understand the reason for folding the work over in needle tatting. Maybe it is necessary in shuttle tatting (not being a shuttle tatter I can't say), but the same thing can be accomplished much more easily without all the contortions by just doing a regular join. No folding or twisting. ::shrug::

The reason you fold the tatting over is so the picot doesn't twist when it is finished. It is necessary in shuttle tatting for new tatters. However as with all tatting it is up to the tatter how they accomplish the end result. I just tell them the way it is supposed to be done in case they decide to get a master's degree in tatting. If they do then they will need to know how to actually do the technique. In needle tatting it can be accomplished in different ways but I teach the way it is said to be done for the purpose of knowing how the technique should be done. Hope that helps you to understand the purpose behind the lesson. Happy Tatting.
