Transcript -Em, anh xin lỗi em nhiều nha! Hồi đây anh bị kẹt xe cho nên mới tới trễ đó. -Kẹt xe cái gì? 😡 ba chục phút (30') rôi đó. Anh biết bây giờ là mấy giờ rồi không? -Thì em hẹn anh lúc mấy giờ? -Ba giờ. Bây giờ 3 giờ rưỡi rồi! -Ừ (Uh), có ba chục phút thôi mà. Xin lỗi mà. -Trời😤. Có ba chục phút. -Thôi mà (insist), Cho anh xin lỗi đi, nha! Thôi mà! ...Em... -Thôi cái gì mà thôi😡😡. Lần sau như vậy nữa thì anh đừng có hẹn hò với tui (tôi) nữa. -Gồi (rồi) anh biết rồi. The dialogue “Anh bị kẹt xe”reminds me of a lesson about traffic in HCM. There are many vocabularies like bus、motorcycle、bicycle、train、airplane…etc for foreigners like me to learn and the most common situation is “kẹt xe” always. Just personal suggestion.

Is the sentence structure 'Mấy giờ + s+ v?' only for questions about going to somewhere, or can it also be used to answer questions about doing something? For eg. I wake up at 11am - Tôi thức dậy lúc 11 giờ sáng. Can I also answer with structure 1? So, 11am I wake up - 11 giờ sáng Tôi thức dậy.

Yes, you can use the structure 'Mấy giờ + s+ v?' to answer questions about doing something as well. So, you could say "Tôi thức dậy lúc 11 giờ sáng" or "11 giờ sáng tôi thức dậy" to express "I wake up at 11am".

+Khengsiong Chew 1 o'clock is 1 giờ. But 1 hour is about the lenth of a period ò time, you should use "1 tiếng" . For example:tôi trễ một tiếng- I am late for an hour

At 4:19 you didn't say the last word "chieu", FWIW... I guess I should rewind about 5 sec and listen to the earlier (similar) phrase again...

You talk about the structure of a sentence like "May gio anh di hoc" (after explaining what "may gio" means or how it's used)--but what is "anh di hoc"??? I need a reminder of what the rest of the sentence--i.e., the "subject" and "verb" (in VN)--actually means in English, e.g by showing the corresponding English phrase at the bottom or something...or maybe this particular YT vid is too advanced for me, I don't know. Also, if you put "anh di hoc" before "may gio" (and thus have to use an extra word "luc")--why would anyone do that, if they have to add the extra word? Apparently the sentences mean the same thing either way, so why say it in a way that requires the extra word?

Your question is very interesting, and motivated me to think a bit carefully to answer : 2 sentences are the same meaning " mấy giờ anh đi học?" = " anh đi học lúc mấy giờ?" But the structure is different because : 1. " Mấy giờ anh đi học" - Main clause in this sentence is "mấy giờ" - Sub-clause indicates action is "anh đi học" --> This sub-clause doesn't need a preposition word, such as at, in , on....... Therefore, we don't need to put any word in between. 2. "Anh đi học lúc mấy giờ" - In this sentence, " anh đi học" becomes main clause - And " mấy giờ" becomes sub-clause indicates time. So it need a preposition word "lúc" meaning "at" to make a correct sentence. So, the answer will be correct by using either first sentence or second sentence with the same structure. In addition, Vietnamese is an isolating language. meaning it has no inflection of any kind. sentences may be restructured so as to be topic-prominent. So just choose the one convenient for you :) Hope this answer helpful for you enjoy Vietnamese :)
