To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Greta Van Fleet. The experimentation is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of musical theories most of the jokes will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Josh's mythical outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Led Zeppelin music, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these music, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Greta Van Fleet truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the symphony in Josh's existential catchphrase "YEAAAA," which itself is a cryptic reference to Led Zeppelin I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Greta Van Fleet's genius unfolds itself on their earphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Greta Van Fleet tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Brendan McCabe to be fair they have said they like Zeppelin.. and was influenced by them. Honestly if they were younger they would be at the top of rock at the moment

Well considering they just love everything 70s rock, makes sense they sound and look like the 70s stereotypes, cause that's the band they would want to see. Both singers oversing far too much, both guitarists show off, both bassists hold down the band, both drummers do pretty standard beats unless there is an odd structure or time signature. The only big difference in songwriting is that, 1. They've only just started of course they're going to wear their influence on their sleeves. 2. They haven't gone into experimental or prog music yet. 3. Both 1st albums are simple, standard rock albums. Give them sometime, people would've said the same things about Led Zeppelin and Cream and The Late Beatles.
@kipwilliamson57374 жыл бұрын

@@peterthirdandthebridges that's a load of shit, because when the first led zeppelin album came out it was the late 60's, so at the time it wasn't a "standard hard rock album"... it was new and almost experimental in a way great van fleet hasn't even came close too. They're a bad cover band, if they really want to be like led zeppelin they should try making something original

It's funny how in the early 90s and well into the 2000s, it was the less lyrical rappers/raunchy artists who had a bigger impact on music as a whole than their other universally respected contemporaries. Winning many federal cases that outlined freedom of expression in music as well as in music videos. There's an argument about them being more influential to the rap genre and the entire music artform as a whole than the traditional 90s rapppers we praise as pioneers today.

5:01 .....i think there was a study done, that your average adult builds their musical taste from the ages of 14 to 24... so it makes sense that student run college radio be the genesis of a young person's journey into different, avant-garde, non-pop related new music. I know it was for me. My favorite band of all time was TOO introduced to me in college.... Jane Doe had just come out, and naturally as a fan of Poison the Well, Glassjaw, Hopesfall and Thursday - a buddy of mine told me to "download" it and give it a shot (yes, download from kazaa like the rest of the savages in 2001). I heard it and wasn't quite blown away at first, but the more I kept returning to it, the more I kept hearing Concubine as that first track... so naturally, the more I got deeper and deeper. long story short, I became obsessed with them (hence... my profile pic). So if you're at that age, explore everything!! Whether it's college radio, mainstream pop radio or just listening to a great variety of artists you hear about through friends or social media, that's how taste is built.

My issue with GVF is that they sound and look like the rock n' roll of old, but they don't have the spirit of rock n' roll. The history of rock n' roll is a history of constant evolution (from chuck berry to elvis to the beatles to the stones to the who to hendrix... and so on), of rebelling against and moving on from the previous generations, being influenced by the past but then killing your idols through reinvention and making it your own. So that the music that you make doesn't sound like the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s; it sounds like the rock n' roll of today and the future and just noise to the older generation. GVF is just nostalgia, retro novelty for that older generation.

people like to overgeneralize every genre of music and thats fine but for ME personally, the reason i started listening to and enjoying BTS back in 2015 was because of the range and quality of their music. its fine that people see them as sort of just a dumb thing teenage girls like but for me personally there are few songs by them that lyrically have moved me and helped me survive through some very difficult times in life. for example, the song tomorrow is essentially about the repetitive and hopeless feelings that many young people experience in this modern world, and how even if things are hard now you should keep going . work hard to achieve your goals, and never forget where you started. maybe thats a little cheesy, but in a world where everyone seems to love cynicism, no artist ive listened to has come to represent hope in the future and in young people as much as BTS. ive been passively into kpop since 2011 and i can say without any doubt there are DEFINITELY some dumb, shallow people who are fans and well...isnt that they way it is for anything? there are certainly problems with the community and industry surrounding kpop but still that doesnt prevent me from enjoying the music that these artists have worked on. tl;dr just give something a REAL chance before knocking it and dont let the fans ruin something that might actually be quite good

Christian Klan kind of sad people would read a comment about not being prejudiced and then reply with prejudice. If you had taken a moment to look before commenting you’d see one of the members is first in the credits for writing and producing lol.

This is GVF's first Full Length LP and the Hate that it's getting is unreal . And it's coming Primarily from people who were Not even born when Zep was a Touring Band . It's so bad that a friend of mine who plays nothing but Rap & Alternative , hates GVF for sounding like Zep which he already hates to begin with . Truly weird . These guys are only in their early 20s . They will grow into their own over time . And as someone who did see Led Zep twice . I like em .
@derekd19975 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree let's be grateful there's a young band out there that makes catchy rock songs, there's nearly none out there currently. I even found the LP sounds more unique than their EPs. Let's give them a chance.

Highway Tune is the only GVF song where I hear the similarity everyone keeps going on about. Aside from that, none of their stuff sounds like Zep to me, and that's coming from someone who once spent 2 straight months listening to nothing _but_ Zep, so I'm definitely more than familiar with their work.

1969 is pretty much the focal point of popular music to me, although I’m biased because I’m all about rock and roll. You had the 60’s bands reaching absolute peaks with The Beatles’ Abbey Road, The Who’s Tommy, Arthur from The Kinks, Let It Bleed from The Rolling Stones, you had newer bands that would come to dominate the next decade like Led Zeppelin with their first two albums, the first CSN album and Neil Young’s first two solo records, the first inklings of progressive rock with King Crimson, Yes and Genesis releasing their first records and Jethro Tull putting out their second album which might as well have been the first. Not to mention Black Sabbath recorded their debut album to be released early the next year, and bands like Deep Purple were about to follow and crank up the distortion. Great stuff, I’m so excited.

Let me tell you the future for Greta van fleet.. 3 teenage brothers attain worldwide success, without really paying dues.. They're gonna tear each other apart with ego. They won't be talking to eachother, as one begins to think he's "the genius" of the group. First, it will be separate limos and backstage areas. Then, the others will quit, and one left will tour the world with a backup band of session players. He will continue calling himself " Greta van fleet" because you can't give up the brand name and dollars..

Great glasses, Plaidtano. As for the KPOP comment, I'm not the biggest fan of the genre in the world but I personally like it because it is very glam and campy and performance-oriented, which is a good quality for pop.
@Swimmaroo5 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to get my pops to listen to new music for years. he never actually cared about any of it until I got him into GVF. Now he actually attempts to listen to the music I send him (king gizz & kikagaku moyo for example). It seems to me that if people really do stop listening to new music in their 30s that homage bands like GFV can serve as a gateway into new music for people who don't necessarily have an interest in """""today's music"""" because all these people really seem to care about is the musical aesthetic of their youth

yeah he doesn't have NEARLY the same power as Robert Plant.. I frequently see people saying GVT are still young they'll improve but Led Zepp were all in early 20s on their first album... I think Robert Plant was like 19 and he already sounded pretty fucking great

@@0oidiedinatimemachineo024 Jimmy Page was in his late 20s, around 28-ish, he was already an established session musician and was the guitarist for The Yardbirds before forming Led Zeppelin.
