@@loafofbread9400 I wouldn't bet on it, most bootlegs consist of bugs, missing content/sprites, a story that takes itself too seriously, over designed redesigns of Pokémon, BAD EGG, glitchy dialogue + interactions, rivals who also take themselves too seriously, champions dragged from other games for no other purpose but for nostalgia. A hell of a lot of Pokémon fan games have these errors, and if you were to ask which game I was referring to I'd say Pokémon Mega Power, but in context to other game genres getting bootlegged I'm no expert here

As I said I can understand the frustration because it'd be cool to see these type of animations in a core game but the amount of outrage is still unwarranted. Sword & Shield is still the best looking mainline Pokemon game ever made up to this point. It's a huge jump visually from the 3DS. I don't play Pokemon for visuals, I play it to have my shiny and perfect IV's kick all your asses.

Hmmm... a game that adds micro transactions through a chance system in order to get the pokemon you want, while putting the best pokemon with the best animations as the hardest pokemon to get. A system that has shown to cost people THOUSANDS of dollars in order to progress or get what they want for something that is arguably low on content. Also don't forget they're making money off of an IP that doesn't belong to them and wasn't given the right to make money off of it. Its like you made a painting and you want to sell it for $60, and someone else takes your painting, makes it look better and offers 5 pieces of the painting for free, but you pay $5 for a chance to get a new piece. It's scummy as hell and shouldn't be praised, no matter how better looking it is. Besides, nobody played the pokemon games for the fucking animations. Who gives a shit about charzard doing a flip before he inserts his flaming erection into ivysaurs ass. I would be more interested that they're letting pokemon fuck. Content is what makes a game worth the money and animations are only a small portion of that.

@@jadenavarrete6577 yeah, but they have less people and worse hardware to work with, so that is kind of expected. Nintendo has the models, so it's just the animations and content (which is mostly just creating the story and new Pokemon, as the routes are just stitched together terrain with assets copy-pasted onto them). They had At Least 3 years to do this, though likely had their story and Pokemon designers on it for 4 or more.

I love that Gamefreak's apologists are defending Sword and Shield by pointing out the company that made this stole graphics and animations. While this certainly makes the whole bootleg less impressive it doesn't change GF did _the exact same thing_ by self-burglarizing animations from their own 3ds games and they still got a worse result that a pirate company

And they are creating complete shit when pirates can do better than them using old assets as well, or making new ones in the absence of them. Only because they are favoured by copyright law doesn't change the fact Gamefreak is doing a terrible job with Sword and Shield

@ghostly No. It's just obvious. If you actually look closely, you'll see the skeletons are completely original, the expressiveness of the models is something that would glitch out with the 3DS/Switch models. The models had to be original or else the model animations wouldn't work properly.

Pokémon Stadium (N64DD original version, Japan only) Pokemon Stadium 2 (Japan, 1 in US) Pokémon Stadium 3 (Japan, 2 in US) Colosseum, XD, Battle Revolution. Blastoise always used his water cannons when doing Hydro Pump or Hydro Cannon. The Game Freak 3DS Titles and Pokemon and Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee never uses the cannons but thin air water blasts. The early 3D Pokemon games from the late 90s to late 2000s weren’t developed by Game Freak but Nintendo EAD for the Stadium games and Genius Sonority for Colosseum, XD, & Revolution.

HAL Laboratory, the guys behind Kirby and Smash, developed the three Stadium games. According to legend, Satoru Iwata himself (at the time HAL's president) was the one who translated the battle system from the GB games into the N64 system architecture. I don't remember quite clearly, but I do seem to recall that in Colosseum and XD they still thank HAL in the credits for providing the models and animations for the first two generations Pokémon. So yes, let's call HAL and Genius Sonority. Or DeNA. Or pretty much anyone who isn't Game Freak. I meam, if Monolith Software assisted Nintendo EAD for Breath of the Wild, why not Game Freak use some help as well?

Well, let's be real. The 3DS games looked super fine... And even the animations where okay, for the 3DS... I mean... It's the 3DS... Technically weaker hardware, then the PSP, but the switch, is more powerful, then a WIIU! and has cartridges, that hold up to 32 Gigabytes

But now, with the switch and its powerful console compared to any other Nintendo console they have no excuse anymore. @@icecreamcake5381 I do know that static hopping, sliding, and rotating is usually only seen in Coolmath games of the lowest quality nowdays, and that a (quote on quote) open world game with half the primary content and maybe 2/7th the world scale of BotW likely has enough space for some 1500+ animations with a state's worth of leftover space what with the 32g's Switch cartridges have. I might not have the slightest clue on how to animate stuff, but if there's one thing a millennial can recognize, it's laziness. And it's not like we're holding them down on the schedule. All it takes is a tweet saying: "We may need a few more months." to shut everyone's mouth.

Well, BotW has been in development for a long time. And let's not forget that the mobile game in the video has less than a hundred pokemon that can only use a limited number of moves which is why it's easy to create unique move animations. If we are to apply this on a main series game, it would mean they would create unique move animations for each of Pikachu's learnable moves. Because it's unique, they would also need to recreate new unique animations for Pichu and Raichu because they would be moving differently compared to a Pikachu when using the same moves. Considering how many moves each pokemon can learn, that would be expensive, time-consuming and impractical. And that only covers battling. Yes Pokemon games is nowhere near compared to other franchises in terms of graphics and it could be better but we don't really understand what happens behind the scenes. It's easy to say "just hire more people" or something without understanding how much resources and investment is enough to still make profits. No one would just spend a billion dollars on a product when the sales expectation is only hundreds of million dollars.

Does it have all the mons, no Does it have all the moves, no Thats not the point tho, its the fact I can compare a mobile game made by fans to the main games, and the mobile fan game wins handily in one of the core mechanics that's an issue. Its a bigger task to make a full pokemon game sure, but the main games also have a larger budget, staff, time, hardware, software, equipment, management and general experience. Its not that a fan-game has superior battling that's the issue, its how large of a gap there is between the main games and the mobile fan game. The Pokemon Company has more time and resources than any media company on the planet, they shouldn't be outdone this badly by a few people in a garage developing a game for fun. It's a sad day when the Chinese knock off is better than the original by a huge margin. It's an even sadder day when modders can run Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee on phone at 1080 60, and gamefreak cant.

Nintendo is not at fault. Nintendo actually has no control over Game Freak. If they did they would delay the game to fix it ( Take Animal Crossing and Metroid: Prime 4 as an example), or add the Pokemon in later updates (take Mario Maker 2’s online friends fiasco as an example).

Nintendo is the publisher of Pokémon, yeah, but sadly, they don't have that particular liberty to delay a main Pokémon game because in doing so, you would also need to delay the anime and other existing merchandise that correlate to the start of a new generation.

Basically as others have said, from current leaked information about the relationship atm between Nintendo and Gamefreak the long story short is that Nintendo knows it doesn't need Gamefreak anymore and they are tired of Gamefreak deliberately keeping their staff count low and not showing results. Gamefreak is now pushing their passion project town in an attempt to get away from Pokemon fully knowing Nintendo will be going with a new studio in the future to make the main line series (or a newly revamped mainline)

Reminder that those games were actually outsourced; Stadium and Stadium 2 were codeveloped by HAL and Nintendo EAD, Colosseum, XD and Battle Revolution were developed by Genius Sonority. GameFreak never touched them.

@@bashfulwolfo6499 in BW they didn't use 3d models but sprite work, plus on a inferior hardware (DS) Understandable. 10 years later, we're now on the most powerful console Nintendo has ever made. There's no excuse to not making them not appearing from where they belong (whether it's from their mouths or from Blastoise's cannons)

Haven't played Pokken or any Naruto Fighter. And well. Battles is what you happen to see the most in Endgame. Now would be best time to introduce another spin off, that connects with pokemon home, to allow every pokemon to battle on a stadium. Won't play that bootleg though. It just showcases what you can do, even with low budget.

It's two years later and something else dawned on me... There's another mobile Pokègame that has sigificantly better animation than SwSh. It also has better textures and models. It also has an amino-like feature and a mostly developed friendship/affection Stat. Pokémon show obvious signs of bonding with trainers through thier traveling. It is constantly adding new Pokémon and new events. The loading screens are stylized so beautifully that you can help but to stare in awe. It is a truly open world game, even if the map is very basic. People from around the world can trade for Pokémon that are rare in certain areas. The combat, while not at all turn-based, shows Pokémon hitting with contact and some modes even let the Pokémon dodge attacks. Perhaps most importantly, the developers actually take time to listen to their players sometimes.... I'm talking about Pokémon Go. As of 2021, Pokémon Go is a more polished, advanced and heartfelt experience than SwSh. A litteral freenium app game is a better deal and experience than a supposedly AAA switch game that costs 60 bucks per a version. Let this sink in, and let it hurt your soul deeply. It's *very obvious* where all of the Pokémon company's funds are going.

Hey, don't insult Rom hacks. Many of them have way better stories than the mainline trash and as of late include Pokémon from all generations with mega evolutions and alolan forms as well. Some of the best hacks I've played are Glazed, Gaia, Flora Sky, Light Platinum, Discovery, and some fan games made using RPGMaker like Legends of the Arena, Insurgence and Zeta/Omicron.

There are some trash romhacks out there, but over time they have innovated beyond even good official pokemon games, and quite some time ago actually. I understand what you mean though, sword/shield is looking to be pretty much an amateurish fanmade asset flip.

Okay but memes aside this genuinely makes me really sad? Like for as long as I could remember I've loved pokemon and to watch it decay into the mess it has become today is upsetting and even through thick and thin I always wanted to defend them but I can't. Not this time, this shit is inexcusable.

Deepest Cut agreed. I've bought every game (both versions and almost all the spinoffs) and I've always tried to look at them positively. But after all this I did some more digging and others have also seen it. They didn't start to get lazy here, they started all the way back in x and y. Go check out tyranitartube and watch his vid on the topic. Actually made me doubt a lot of what they've done and made me realize what they're really after here.
