No one can deny Page's innate ability to deliver what is the very essence of rock guitar solo phrasing. And this Stairway tutorial leaves nothing on the vinyl but the pops and scratches.

I'm literally only here because despite searching online I literally can't find ONE live version of Page playing this where it sounds... like it's supposed to sound. I wanted to get the proper fingering from the man himself but I guess I gotta start doing heroin to get to the level of guitaristic prowess showcased by our "essence of Rock" laden Jimmy... He who climbs Mt Fuji once is a wise man; he who climbs twice is a fool "富士山に一度も登らぬバカ、二度登るバカ" I think better translated as “He who never climbs Mt. Fuji is a fool, fool as he who climbs it twice.” But climb it 23 times and still you may never experience that perfect sunrise or get that once in a lifetime picture. Anyway that must be a record and more power to you. You must have gone through 23 pairs of shoes scratching through the volcanic cinders. Anyways this vid is excellent. My dad was a professional musician and I dabbled in it through college and ever since but I’m a beginner on guitar and still struggling to nail the intro. This is way too advanced for me but my better-than-tin ear can appreciate the excellence. I’ll be back in a few months.

That Live Page Solo on TSRTS : Gibson EDS 1275 is loaded with Gibson T Tops (7.5k Roughcast Short A5 Magnets) that fantastic "Hollow Chirp " sound is the T Tops in the MIDDLE Position.. That will get you the tone. Someone elsewhere commented his toggle switch in the film in pointing down so they thought it was 'treble pickup'... Wrong!. That selector switch visable in the film, selects the 6 or 12 string neck. The pickup selector in the middle of the guitar cannot be seen. I replicate Jimmys 1973 TSRTS sound on my channel.. The secret sauce is the UNBALANCED pickup set . Not so much the KT88 Plexi. Richie Blackmore used a KT88 Plexi for a completely different tone. The Royal Plexi is great, but the pickups are wrong in that clip.

@@bryanwilliams3665 Wow. I’m 9 months too late checking out your reply. I checked out your channel. You weren’t kidding. You build pickups that can nail that tone so accurately even through your music man amp with the cmatmod brownie overdrive. Everything you said was true. Nice channel by the way. I say 9 months too late because I just finished a cheap Les Paul that played really well by upgrading all hardware and pickups on it. I went with Wizz Pageys and 21 tone JP wiring. It gets pretty close, but if I’d read this earlier I would’ve gone to you for pickups for sure. Maybe in the future though and another Les Paul. Yours are two conducted and no push-pull pots needed? That’s what I got from your videos. I have 4 conductor Wizz Pageys with all knobs on Bourne 500k push pull pots. The amount of sounds is incredible, but I think I could’ve just got a set from you and got every crucial TSRTS sound I’d been after. Probably for less than the Wizz Pageys. I subscribed to your channel so I can reference it in the future for my next set of pickups. I bought a 1959 HW clone for $773 shipped from Grand Amps in China. Had it 4 months now and it’s a keeper. So I have the amp and the Wizz pickups and 21 tone wiring nail it pretty close. Not sure as close as yours though. Your sound examples come closer than I’ve ever heard.

Because it was cut together, who knows? Years ago I did slide back and I do so in my original cover. However, I don’t think you get the definition or control of the note. When you slow it right down it’s so warped. What’s to say we’re not hearing the slide of the barre chord from G down to F and confusing that sonically? I like staying in the first position there. At least we can all agree it’s an F.

He just goes for it live, throwing in a few of the famous licks. You can look at it two ways: “I’m sad I wanted to hear the exact solo” or “I got to see the man himself deliver something unique in a moment, just me and this crowd.” Either way I’d treasure it.

@vinny5004
@vinny5004 5 ай бұрын
Well, 1) this is not a long solo, and 2) it is intermediate at best. Pretty basic, but excellent to learn to practice pentatonic + extra notes and timing/feel before tackling something harder and longer. Also, keep in mind the trap of beginners trying to learn everything note for from tab, which takes away from learning the feel of playing and also recognizing that the note choices can change from time to time to add some of yourself and flair to a song/solo. Good luck!

Killer video. I just got the complete, official studio recordings guitar anthology. According to the book, for the final ascending pattern before the fast shredding licks begin, you call it LICK 5, he goes back to the F on the 8th fret of the A string, and then ascends up the pentatonic positions through there. You can also hear on the recording that he is playing on those thicker strings high up, vs. the thinner strings lower on the neck. Obviously, the notation and melody is identical in your version, so I'm not finding fault, just pointing out that there is another place to play it. That's where I naturally went as I'm figuring this out by ear, high up the neck, and other people might prefer to play it there as well. Keep up the great content! Amazing video, once again.

Thanks to your video, I've been able to hear this solo so much more clearly. I remember the first timed I saw/heard a youtube vid about it by someone, and I posted, Oh man, you did it EXACTLY! Only to come back a year or two later realizing there were always extra notes. YOURS is the closest I've ever heard, with only one extra note (hammer-on) at :47--AND GUESS WHAT? RIGHT NOW I HEAR THAT NOTE IN THE ORIGINAL, AFTER NEVER HAVING HEARD IT IN MY LIFE. I was going to point out that you missed a spot, and I'M the one who's been missing it. Thank you. Well done, I'm going to learn this from you before I die, lol.
