The last few years I have been tracking my reading mostly by the amount of pages I read and not so much by the amount of books, and I found that it really helps cause that way I'm not at all tempted to choose shorter books for the stats, and I don't have to make sure I also read longer ones if that's not what I'm feeling like doing in that moment.

I went to my local thrift store yesterday and found like new copies of My Brilliant Friend and The Story of a New Name. I only paid a little of $3 for the pair! I was so excited! I would have never picked them up on my own but after hearing you rave about them I think I’ll love them too! Thanks Emily for all of your awesome book recommendations!

I have a recommendation for a mystery book with an elderly protagonist that uses the unreliable narrator in a way other than the standard mystery/thriller ways of mental health and drugs/alcohol abuse. It's called Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey. I really enjoyed it as it was quite a cosy mystery. It's also quite a short book.
@barbaraschmitt85Ай бұрын
For thrillers, I recommend Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll and Firekeeper's daughter by Angeline Boulley (it's YA though)
@stpetersburg64Ай бұрын
For mysteries, Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series is fun. I also enjoyed This Poison Will Remain by Fred Vargas-part of a series originally written in your native French!
@SuperBondfan007Ай бұрын
The thing with thrillers is that, like fantasy, there are sub-genres: Political thrillers, crime thrillers, military, spy thrillers, etc. So you'd probably need to find which works for you. Based on what I've heard over the course of watching your videos, you might like the Mrs. Pollifax series by Dorothy Gilman. Basically, the main character is an older woman who's bored with life, and decides to become a spy for the CIA, which takes her on all sorts of adventures. There's about 14 or so books, but they're all very small, and fast paced, you'd read them in a day or two. Some violence, but nothing major.
@_Mei_HАй бұрын
It's in French but for mystery thrillers I recommend Fred Vargas books, her writing is great and the development of the mystery is generally really good

It's so hard to do ANYTHING during a heatwave! When I recently travelled and got hit with a heatwave in Greece, we'd wake up at 7am and go for a run/walk, get a coffee and then go back to the hotel. That could totally be a walk and audiobook situation before the heat sets in! For me it's winter so I'm cosy with my electric blanket and my chunky fantasy books hahaha, I can't wait to see you continue series soon!

a big step in training myself to DNF was admitting i simply don't like thrillers. I'll pick up one or two a year (always women or bipoc authors) but they have to sound genuinely interesting (not just 'ok') to me on my own; i can't take any reviews into account

Mystery thrillers are rarely my favourite books (I prefer ones with a bit of sci fi too) two great recent reads have been In the Blink of an Eye- Jo Callaghan The Mountain in the Sea- Ray Naylor (read because of your videos) I read this alongside Brilliant Abyss- Helen Scales (a non fiction about the sea) and it really increased my appreciation of both books. Hope you can find some favourites and some more I'll be interested in.

I know in the past you were looking for a detective series. You might like the Bree Taggert series by Melinda Leigh. The first book is called Cross Her Heart. Maybe you should try some of the thriller/suspense that that is always found in the supermarkets since the really popular ones don’t work for you. Lisa Jackson is one I really enjoy. Laura Griffin is also a pretty good one you could try. Good Luck! I hope you find some you love.
