I really appreciate this series of videos on how to make flip flops. I had to become a shoemaker for my son that has a size 18, 9E width and diabetic thickness of foot. He isn't even a diabetic. I can't find him any shoes on the internet to fit his feet. I like how thorough your instructions are on making these flip flops. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for making these videos. I will try to make these as well. I have never been able to wear flip flops because the leather between the toes have been too uncomfortable and irritating on the skin so when I make these myself I'll make sure to burnish the hell out of it so I won't have that problem. Excited!

Great. The measurement secret was what I was after. I didn't want generic shoe sizes. I wanted to know how to actually fit my daughter. I'd like to make strap sandels too.

Those punches look like they can be made by flattening pipe I have so many ideas! I think I'm gonna try to recycle tire rubber for the sole and I might try to replace the middle layer with a Dr scholls insert...

Interesting idea to outright use a factory made insole. I was thinking of sewing everything to the midsole without bothering about the cutouts and then use silicone to make a custom footbed (that should take care of the then uneven surface). I should (hopefully) be able to wetmold the inner sole to the silicone before glueing and sewing it all together...

Could you make the center portion of the insoles out of cork and make it lighter and more comfortable?

Hi!!! Oh my GOD I am sooooooooooo happy I just found you!!..I have literally looked for TEN years straight trying to find these sandals....and then I tried to find someone who would make them for me, and I have had zero luck. They are just sandals and they are not hard. Do you think that you would be able to do it for me? How do I get a hold of you? I would love to talk to you! And thank you for this video

As a matter of fact, has anyone noted, anatomically, where the straps and such should be in relation to the bones in the foot? i.e. the dip where the pinky toe joins the foot, the front of the anklebone.

What about just ordering precut thick leather soles for boots as the mid sole? Then top that with your finish leather then apply and sew on a rubber or textured sole?

MakerDad lol I’m the new guy asking. I can get pre cut thick leather soles for near nothing. But I still don’t want to waste my time or materials. Im also thinking about using discarded leather purses for the top leather. I know Tandy leather wants to sell leather but I’m about recycling as much as possible and it not look like recycled goods.
@wornwizard
@wornwizard 6 жыл бұрын
DALE thebelldiver It depends on what sort of leather it is. With veg tan, I can use my stitching groover and have no issues sewing it. With some unknown bonded leather or the like, you may have different issues. Won't hurt to try, and anything should be workable to an extent.
@dalethebelldiver7740
@dalethebelldiver7740 6 жыл бұрын
MakerDad that leather is a Veg tan and I’m thinking by Tandy after all. I’m trying to find an excuse to use the sole stitcher and make something in the process. I kinda have the component parts but haven’t decided on the top surface leather or the actual sole. What about using real leather; salvaged large purses? And what about it being too slick?

Here is my question: there are many sellers of starter kits; MAYBOOS, JOPEA, YANGOU, BANYOUR, TANDY, BAGERLA, SIMPZIA, OWDEN, BUTUZE to name a few. who would your recommend?

Hey Dad, why do you not put the seam for the toe webbing the other way around so the round part goes to the web? (I found your tutorials btw!!)😁

And I will too when I make my pair. Also... do you need to cut the toe piece? Can’t you just fold it and sew it tight? (Seems like it would make it stronger to leave it but you may have a good reason for cutting the relief lines)

Nice video series. But one question. Why put the seam for the thong against the inside of the foot. Why not flip the seam to the front and have the nice smooth side against the foot??
@wornwizard

You can do that, and in a newer video I do it. You could also completely redesign it. Whatever works for you!

Why is symmetry necessary when they are custom shoes; specific for one customer?
@wornwizard
@wornwizard 6 жыл бұрын
In most cases, people's feet are similar enough that an average of the two works perfectly fine. You can do it differently, and I would if asked by a customer, but my preference is that they match. It makes things easier for me, less to keep track of when they are mirror copies of each other.

it seems to me, that you're going through a lot of effort to make 2 identical patterns reversed, when you could just make one, and flip it when making the left/right. it would probably save you time/effort and end in an even more symmetrical pair
