I seriously love you. It's so hard finding DIYers who don't take the "all naturale" route without any sense of chemistry at all. You're the bomb!

Thanks, Kylee! I can't stand it when people publish recipes that don't work! I have a hard time imagining how anyone could make this and think it works 😑

Thank you for working so hard to educate us Marie. I am slowly getting it...slip, adhesion, opacity, strength of pigment, creaminess of a powder..... You're the bomb! I don't think you will ever eliminate all of the questioning though. So just keep on mixing up those fabulous concoctions 😁

Thanks, G Girl! Sometimes you've got to try something for yourself to see if it works, and that's ok too!

I love this video! I laughed so hard watching you trying to get your arm in the shot! Seriously though, I do agree with you 100% about using food as cosmetics. It just doesn't work. Food as a mask on the other hand, bring it on!

Yeah lol, I didn't realize how far out of the shot I was until it was far too late to do anything about it. Whoops! But, yes. It was awful "makeup". More like a wretched masala than makeup haha.

Yep, that "natural" makeup was pretty bad! And you know that there are people out there wearing food and spices on their face. Boggles the mind!!

You have such a fascinating eye colour :O :) Also I was kind of expecting you to like, let them sit for three days and then show how quickly food ingredients can expire xD well, maybe that's not so bad with spices but... who knows what some people get in their head to use

Can you try harder to make a skin color powder foundation for. The spices ? You say yourself in he pigments are not the same so why use the same ratios for the spices ?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
No, I have zero interest in that. The ratios are far from the only problems, as discussed extensively in the video and here: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/can-use-foodspices-colour-cosmetics-instead-iron-oxides/. If you were trying to make a cake using sand and dirt it wouldn't work, and not only because sand and dirt would perhaps require different ratios-same deal here.

I dont think this is a fair comparison... I make food ingredient makeup that matches my skin color(Im not as fair as you but not dark either). Yes, as in the video, when used in powder form it is a bit hard to apply. Which is why I make it into a cream/stick form and it has amazing coverage, last all day and is all natural.

I can't believe these keep circulating! I've tried 3 different variations and they were so horrible. It didn't look yellow but I really couldn't get the pigment to darken or match and then, like you, it wouldn't really stay on at all. How are people actually using this??!

That mineral makeup powder looked too yellow to me and I felt that the turmeric (though you used little) just over powered the other color substitutes thus giving that yellowish tint instead of the light pinkish tinge of real mineral makeup
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, everything about the food one is awful. It is likely possible to get the food one to have a better colour blend, but it still wouldn't have any adhesion or opacity 😕

True.....and also Turmeric stains your skin so bad.....and I have seen light skinned Indian women and dark skinned Indian women who apply turmeric paste near their ears and after they have washed it off, you can still see the stain on that part of the skin, so yeah it is good as a tint, but not good as an ingredient for mineral makeup because of the staining property turmeric has.....:-(

rebecca fiona Cornel Turmeric is used on the skin because it's supposed to inhibit facial hair growth & imparts a glow. It's usually a must for brides & is part of the pre-wedding rituals.
@rebeccafionacornel6558
@rebeccafionacornel6558 6 жыл бұрын
Manu C S.....yes you are right on that and I agree with you....but being an Indian myself, the problem of seeing someone who's face is the shade of turmeric actually puts this question in my mind.....Why use turmeric? Because it acts as a stain on the human skin, just like other natural colours (example Indigo).....I know that it imparts glow to the bride's skin....but sometimes especially in the dark skinned people as well as the light skinned ones (I honestly don't mean to be disrespectful of other Indians, but this is actually what I noticed) I have seen the typical turmeric stain......so, being an Indian, and a Mangalorian, we use Coconut milk or as some would call Coconut cream, for brides and grooms as well and this is a must in our area......and I was born in Mumbai city so I never understood the reason for these and my parents were not into explaining the importance of these.....so it's really nice to know that fact too.....Thank you Manu C S....

My one issue with finding good makeup recipes not using food (hell no am I sticking spices on my face!) is finding ingredients that don't contain ANY coconut or palm in any form, the sericite mica I got I found out later that some suppliers add I can't remember what now but it was something I can't use. I emailed my supplier but got no reply as I dont most of the time I message them..... but it seems to cause a lil burning tingling sensation so I suspect it might and I can't use it 😢. Finding alternatives that I can use without worrying becomes an exercise in frustration, then if I find alternatives its finding ones I can get here or having to save to afford making it worth it to buy from overseas. I do have things like iron oxides, titanium dioxide etc but its the more makeup specific ingredients I struggle to get. Things like magnesium sterate I can't use, anything sterate really as unless stated (never seen it) you have no idea the source. The list of ingredients I have to keep in my phone to avoid is ridiculous and I'm still adding to it, I want to invest in a good book for making makeup but I don't want to waste my money if I can only use a couple of the recipes. If I can sort out what I need and where I can get it I'm more than happy to get the ingredients as I cannot use commercial products as the very few products I've found that don't contain any coconut or palm contain apricot (also allergic). I wish I was willing to leave the house without makeup, but I won't, I have at least managed to reduce my red butterfly rash so its not so obvious but I can't reduce the purple bags under my eyes or the slight splotchiness I have due to the rash that will never be 100% gone. Plus I'm extremely pale so adding a lil definition helps! Any advice would be extremely helpful

Oh yikes, this is a tricky one. Fortunately you're ok for all the mineral ingredients, but anything that has a fatty acid in it could be coconut or palm derived. I know Bare Minerals doesn't have any magnesium stearate in it, so it's definitely very possible to make mineral makeup with just the minerals. You'd likely be able to make most of the recipes in my book just by dropping the stearates, though I'm not sure how the recipes would perform :/ You definitely can develop makeup recipes without those things (look to silica and silicones for added slip and adhesion), but you may need to strike out on your own there. It would be fun, but a lot of work. Good luck!

Humblebee & Me that doesn't give me a lot of hope 😂 ah this is where there needs to be a company dedicated to making coconut and palm free because coconut is a fast growing allergy and is often connected to palm allergy too. It would be so much easier if companies listed the source of ingredients 😢 I've found at least in the medications I take magnesium stearate is not made from them, but I guess I'm going to be doing my least favourite thing and asking all of the questions to all of the companies
