@@averypadula8024Tamara was the one I remember saying that term a lot in the show. I could definitely see her watching Jersey shore. I remember during football Fridays talking amongst my hs friends on the stands about how anxious we were to get home and watch Jersey Shore. I would get home watch the latest episode of JS and catch up on Awkward. episodes as well.

omg this show was definitely my comfort show when I was in high school. I struggled so much with having and keeping friendships back then, and I kinda related to Jenna's character in terms of potential growth and being a loser too haha. Glad you brought this up because I think it's genuinely funny!

this just unlocked my memory bc i had completely forgotten about this show! can't remember how much i watched of this show - can't fior the life of me remember how i found it but i definitely remember being into the show back in probably 2014/2015 (i was like, maybe 12/13/14.) i have vivid memories of searching for 'awkward' fanficiton on wattpad. knowing my track record i don't think i finished it, probably stopped or fell off around season 2? i have no idea.

Yeah I don't know how I found it either. I think i was browsing the channels one day and landed on mtv and caught the last few minutes of one of the episodes in season one and I was tapped in. I would recommend definitely continuing at least until season three ,season four wasn't that bad but yeah if you haven't seen season three yet then you should. it's one of the best seasons of the show.

Even though the show was very over-the-top sometimes, I feel like it is very realistic of how teens do shitty things out of spite, jealousy, impulsiveness, etc. The feeling that everything is the end of the world, the quest to be popular and liked, mixed feelings about multiple guys, insecurities and overthinking about what something means, I feel like it's a very universal experience for teens who are feeling things for the very first time.

Thank you so much for this recap! I used to love this show, it was one of my favourites at the time... it taught me so much about growing up and understand myself while ending the high school and starting at the college. Totally agree with the fact they lost some spark after season 3, pushed away some things and ran in circles (common, Jenna and Matty shouldn't have so many breakups!), but it's still a guilty pleasure. I love Luke, he was the best Jenna's love interest/boyfriend, but Jenna and Matty were such an endgame... there wasn't space for anyone. I liked how much Matty grew up with the seasons.

This is one my fav shows and now i just might have to rewatch again lol. The 2010s aesthetics take me back and this show stayed playing some good hits that i have now on spotify. If i can remember season 3 was rough for me to watch just because i was not a big fan of colin but hey jenna was def going through it. I think this show should've had 4 seasons and ended with high school. Going away to college and leaping to a year later was such a bad move and it made me feel sorry for everyone and their weird endings. They should've chopped half of the side plots in season 4 and put in the first half of season 5, then ended on a happy note with Matty and Jenna agreeing to try long distance even though it would most likely fail. Or they could even end with the bittersweet ending of Matty telling Jenna to choose herself because they would always find their way back to each other, then breaking up and going to different schools. They stretched the plots too much in seasons 4 and 5, the characters sorta lost their identities and became very different people several times.

Thank you so much for bringing this show back to my radar.When I ran into your video, I immediately had to go rewatch it. It's quite outdated, I think, even for its time. The constant ed jokes are super triggering!!! But it's quite funny, super qoutable, and totally binge watchable.

This show came out when I was in 10th grade. Such a great escape because at my hs I was the teachers pet and didn’t really vibe with any of the cool kids but was chill with everyone

I was not this shows target demo but I had it on in the background along with Suburgatory when I was working nights. I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons but after I stopped pulling all nighters I stopped watching + from your video Ming stopped being in it she was my favourite character hands down. It was a great show that wasn't too deep, I was thinking about this show and a few others that I watched back in the early 2000s that I could share with my daughter, so random that this video came up in my recommendations! really nice well done video essay.
