Күн бұрын

Another "let's repair" Vlog where I document the fail/win process of buying junk in the hope of an easy fix. This time I got myself a "faulty" Sony PS4 controller from ebay for a 'Best Offer' price of £13.00 with free shipping.
Thanks for watching!

@RetroGameTech
@RetroGameTech 8 жыл бұрын
+DaveSimonH The seller was a joblot type of guy. Probably spends only a couple seconds inspecting each item of stock. I'd guess he received these as "untested/faulty", saw the thumb stick/lack of power and that was as far as it went :P . He'll have made his profit and I got a working controller, so win win. xD

One thing to test (there may be a comment on this already) is how tense the shoulder buttons are. What I mean is, if you hold the right shoulder button in a racing game for instance, worn pads will not fully press the pressure sensitive button to completion and you won't fully accelerate. I know it sounds like horse crap but it's genuinely true, the spring or something along those lines just gives up due to wear and tear.
@TNSign
@TNSign 8 жыл бұрын
+SmoothEmJay Wouldn't calibration fix that issue? (Is calibrating even possible on consoles?).
@SmoothEmJay
@SmoothEmJay 8 жыл бұрын
No, you can't do such a thing on a console. It's 100% down to wear on the trigger button itself.

I just wanted to let you know that even though the controller appears fully functional it still may have a defective analog stick. My controller was that way were it was fine in the menu and in certain games but stuff like Warframe I had trouble moving around. It's worth testing to see if it's truly fully functioning.

+Brutal Fates There's not too much I can do about that. I order random stuff and never know what I'll be getting. Hey, i got a sega genesis that doesn't get power or the light just doesn't light up. I don't have games or a controller to test it with. I know some older systems won't power on without a game in, but i don't remember the genesis being one of those. I hate to throw it out, i would rather see it fixed and used. If you're interested, or anyone else, let me know. Free of course, just have to work out the shipping if it comes to that.

Buying second hand controllers doesn't bother me. Hell by the time they get to me they have probably been through several hands... I like cleaning them and taking the chance they work. Of course after many years of doing this I can pretty much judge if anything is going to work. I won't buy anything excessively beat up. I might buy a frayed cable and heat shrink it or replace from a bad controller. Or a controller just for the analog sticks occasionally if it is cheap enough. BUT I have never seen hair inside a controller like that. I am not sure how they would even get in there.....
