Another "let's repair" Vlog where I document the fail/win process of buying faulty goods in the hope of an easy fix. This time I got myself a limited edition Halo 4 Xbox 360 controller from ebay for a total £8.94 delivered. It looks to have suffered some rage quit damage and needs a good clean.
Thanks for watching!

Much respect for a person that can fix things like that. Nowadays people just throw away what's broken, and I'm not saying that I'm not one of those people; I definitely am. I just wish I had the resources and know-how to fix whatever I needed to fix and I admire those who do have them.

+Jake Cyberspace I've gotten into the hobby of fixing video game equipment recently. I've done stuff like restore an original Gameboy, I bought a dirty ass PS1 for cheap and made it look brand new, repaired and restored a Genesis, and most recently I've fixed and cleaned up a GameCube wireless Wavebird controller and fixed the broken disc drive on my old Xbox. It's really fun to tear into something and fix it. And it's easy to do if you just look up some tear-downs of the console you wanna repair and I'd you take the time to realize what each piece is for. Then it's only a matter of getting the tools and replacement parts and boom you can fix it. If you're ever unsure on what to do, I suggest watching a video of it on KZfaq before you break something. That's how I got started.

Hah, I am one of those people who buy broken stuff and fix it. Thrift stores are so nice :D! It's honestly not too hard to fix things, most tutorials are online.

I really wanna do that too, something seems so satisfying of fixing stuff instead of letting it stand in a land fill. The whole reason I bought an Atari from a thrift shop (doesn't work btw) so I can try and fix. Cant wait to get into it.

Start with a 20 dollar soldering iron from amazon and some persicion screwdrivers from the dollar tree. Its prretty easy. If its broke you have nothing to lose.

Ah KZfaq, always coming up with these innovative and handy new features :P. I couldn't see the comments on my own video until several hours after I'd uploaded. I heard they were planning to make video comments only available to those with a Google+ account! This site is becoming less and less user friendly IMHO. I wish there was a good community based and less ad-revenue focused alternative.

My X360 controller's right bumper suddenly stopped working and the issue was the switch inside the controller attached to board. This video inspired me to not to give up and since I needed to fix the bumper like "right now", I had no spare parts to change the switch on board directly. I decided to take more brutal solution, so anyone who has an issue with bumper working sporadically can try this as well. Just open the controller and focus your eyes on the problematic switch. The front side has metalic plate with 4 black plastic pins holding it. Gently break tops of those 4 pins, remove the silver plate. Pick out the pressing button. Inside you will find a circle metalic plate in shape of human pupil, one side bulged. Under this "pupil" there are 3 sensors in vertical align. The issue why bumpers suddenly stopped working was due corrosion of the pupil and bad contact to close the electric circuit. Both upper and lower sensors, which are in permanent contact with the pupil, were covered by the corrosion as well, making the electric circuit not possible to be closed. Removing the corrosion, gently brushing it off "the pupil" and sensors makes the circuit to be perfectly closed again, thus the controller once again works totally fine. There are two issues: 1) To assemble the controller together is a bit harder because the pressing button and pupil tend to fall off the switch itself. 2) Controller is now a bit more sensitive in matter of dropping, because a big shock of dropping the controller can cause the pressing button and pupil fall of the switch (unless somehow secured) At least this helps a bit to make the bumper working again before one can save some cash for a new controller :)

Awesome! I do the same thing - bathroom sink (or bath) to clean consoles and controllers etc. The one thing I don't do is put the rubber parts in with the carbon pads - safer to just wipe them lightly. That said, some people put the circuit boards in the dishwasher - I kid you not.

Looked really nice and clean in the end. I have the light blue Halo 4 controllers that came with the Halo 4 custom shell console. Really nice, but it can be a little distracting when the batteries start to run out and the LEDs start flashing, due to the clear material. But I'm nitpicking really, they are really nice. Have you been playing GTA 5? I've been loving it so far, just a shame you can't install the 2nd disc without texture issues (if/when I get a spare 16GB USB I'll install to that).

I found a standard white 360 controller on the side of the sidewalk the other day on the way home from work. When I found it it had no battery pack/cover and it's very dirty. Plus it was raining hard earlier that morning so it might have some water damage. I don't own a 360 but I realize that I can use it with my Win. 10 computer. Another thing that I realized is that I don't want to wast some good money on a battery pack to use on the controller that night never ever work again. Also the top right joystick is missing it's rubber cover.

Yeah, but after buying 3 silver 'transformable d-pad' controllers, I went back to the 4-5 years old white original haha and it works nicely, much better quality plastic after all. The thing is, the features shouldn't really rely on a small bendable part or wearing the little peg on the shoulder buttons, never had a problem with a dual shock. I hope they fix all the wearing issues in the new controller.

Try cleaning the pins on the controllers ports on the console itself using a q-tip, and some rubbing alcohol, then let it dry out, also cleaning the inside would not hurt, if that's not the case after that, then u have a faulty chip that controls the controller input.

Yeah the GTA5 HDD install texture issues were acknowledged by Rockstar themselves. On 360 & PS3 you have to install about 8GB of data, and then on both systems they read from the disc & the HDD simultaneously. Its essentially to make the most of the now ageing hardware, to increase draw distance and for most part remove loading screens. But if you install 360 play disc it causes issues as its trying to read from HDD twice. I'm about 1/2 way through the main missions and about 22hrs logged so far

My friend have a problem lately: when I have played Megadrive, when I push to one side of the control + B + C pause the game. Play Hang On sucks because I can not make turns driving the booster and so on. Some information: * I've already tested various controls and the problem persists, then control is not defective; * In the 2nd control is the same problem as I put Sonic 2 to test the command and when the game was paused too.

The xbox 360 controller is very well designed but internally is a mess. The bumpers are weakly designed. The triggers may scratch the case in some cases, the analog sticks on the silver controllers scratch the internal paint and they aren't smooth anymore due the friction with the border, the headphone jack may stop letting you use the headset due some internal misconnection and my battery pack isn't properly charged by any of my controllers, I use an external charger to refresh my batteries.
