With Kodak reviving one of their most beloved black and white films, I figured I would give my HP5 a break and indulge in some high speed and heavy grain. Just a walk through town here in Chillicothe, Ohio with a roll of T-Max and my Pentax K1000 with a 50mm f/2. Nice and simple.

My favorite 35mm film. I use it a lot for nature and forest work. It leaves an etching look if done right .

Matt, on the K1000, if you press the lens release and turn the lens as if taking it off but stop short of taking it off the aperture will stop down to the selected aperture enabling you to see your depth of field, turn the lens back on and shoot or select a new aperture for desired depth of field. It is a pain in the ass, but great for lenses without a depth of field scale.

It takes imagination to capture interesting images in a dreary location and you did just that. 10 years ago I moved from the Adirondack Mountains to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and changing gears was a challenge. I used to be able to capture interesting images without leaving my house. Just about any place I went to in the mountains resulted in interesting images. Urban photography is a whole other story. Lately, work has kept me too busy for taking pictures. The buildings have become the mountains and traffic has become the river.

Really enjoying the quality of your new videos. You put the film through its paces in a style that would typically be used by people, this makes it really informative for those that want to see what the film can do from an everyday type shoot. No gimmicks or tricks, just straight up walking and shooting what you find.

Hey Matt, great video. One trick I've learned with the k1000 and dof preview is to press the lens release and carefully rotate the lens until the aperture lever loses contact. You'll know because if you are stopped down the view finder will darken. Just don't go too far, lol. It's a hack I know, but it works.

I really liked the format of this video-- getting out, taking pictures, and talking through your process. P3200 is a pretty nice film stock. I didn't find the grain objectionable, at least from my computer screen. lol. Look forward to more videos like this in the future.

So I just got gifted a K1000 and found this video. I’ve been watching your channel for ages - so Matt shoots a K1000 (yay) - but the best bit is that my younger son is also called Levi! (We don’t get many of those in UK!) Hope all well with you and yours.

Awesome video eerie sujects, sign of the times eh Matt. Brings back so many memories back in the day I used to shoot sport for my local weekly. In the grim depths of a long dark winter season in Yorkshire the paper would give me a roll of Tmax 3200 which I had to push to 6400 to stand any chance of a decent shot at 2.8. The results were grainy as all hell I hated that grain at the time but looking back now they actually look like authentic photographs full of atmosphere. I've just dug out my old Minolta 9 and put a roll of colour film through it, I was blown away by the results and the enjoyment I got from it. Tmax 100 and HP5 are next targets on my chan, cant wait. Great vid mate thanks for sharing.

Great to see someone shooting a Pentax for once! Great camera that is greatly underappreciated. That lens is almost too stubby to use without getting a finger or knuckle in the image though. You got some good images! I preferred the missing vine shot that you did low with the inclusion of part of the window. Nice!!

like the new format as well. I mainly shoot digital but have an old rollei 35s. just does not have a battery in so have to meter with my phone which keeps me from shooting because it is annoying but your new videos make me want to go out with that old thing and shoot 'everyday' stuff cause you make it look cool.

Nice! One of my favorite films. I use the Illford 3200 as well. They both have such a great look. As a teen in the late ‘70’s, early ‘80’s I hated the grainy look and loved the clean, smooth look of Kodachrome 64. It changed over the years and has now become one of most used films.
