You forgot the main arc twist for Nynaeve when she loses her block. As she is sinking into the river she tries to save herself with the power but since she can only use that when angry it does not work. So as she is drowning she accepts that she is about to die and surrenders for the first time in her life, which is the key to the female half of the power, so the power flows into her and after this she can use the power without being angry.

I was waiting for that part as well. It took a degree of frustration out of the books as a reader, was a great moment of itself, and changed her character dramatically. I particularly enjoyed how they realized her block was broken when she dried them both off.

I was going to point it out but I see it was already covered so good job. When I read this the first time it was the most epic scene in the book. It also turned me into a huge Nynaeve fanboy. ;-) This was a huge deal both for Nynaeve herself and how the rest of the series goes from there. It was strange how "Meh, she almost drowns and Lan saves her". Which he does, I do not doubt that fact but if she had not done what she did it would have been too late, or so I think. Also yay, no more block for Nyaneve! :-) Also also ( :-P ) Mogedien was indirectly (or directly) involved in removing the block from one of the only persons alive that could go toe to toe with her, making an even stronger foe in the process. Which shows that the forsaken are only powerful because of superior lost knowledge, not because they are necessarily smarter or more powerful. Again outstrips them in a lot of ways then and later because not anyone from the Age of Legends thought that stilled channelers could be healed, which Nyaneve have already disproved and later she learns how to heal/remove the madness from male channelers. Nynaeve is badass! :-D

Rand doesn't get an Asha'man body guard because he sees how powerful they are, Taim tries to get Rand to take many Asha'man with him for protection, Rand doesn't want them but Taim keeps insisting. Rand finally concedes choosing a single Asha'man at random to accompany him. Anyways thanks for your videos. Although I enjoy this series I have found it difficult to get through at times. A small correction: Rand is saved because of Cadsuane's, Samitsu's and Damer Flynn's healing, not directly because of Ishamael's wound. Damer manages to seal both wounds off to try and finish each other off, but without Cadsuane and Samitsu attempting healing, Rand would've died from Fain's wound and Ishamael's wound wouldn't have saved him

Actually, the bonding weave wasn't invented (found?) until after the War of Power; I think I recall that one of the Forsaken (I forget who exactly) at one point remarks that even though the channelers of today are very weak, they are not without ingenuity, and uses that weave as an example. Thus, the golams cannot have been created to specifically kill warders, only to kill channelers while being pretty much immune to physical harm as well. Also, was Mat really doing so well against it? Wouldn't he just have been killed if it weren't for the medallion? Maybe I remember this incorrectly

It wasn't Shadar Harnan, or whatever, it was Moridin watching Sammael. When he talks about hiding in fancloth(warder cloak material), why would a Fade need fancloth, they are shadows.

Nick Hamlin think 2 dif scenes got mixed there. Shaidar Haran watches Sammael and Graendal fracture the shaido with gateways towards the end of the book. And, yeah, i assumed it was Moridin watching the same pair at an earlier meeting with shaido wise ones too. What i wonder, is if it was also Moridin in a little scene in Ebou Dar sitting on a barrell, feeling weak and like he can't handle a sword anymore, but still scares off a footpad who notices him.

I don't think you can say Rand lost the duel fairly. It wasn't a fair fight from the start. "Your jacket will hinder your movement cousin." Rand shrugs. "Your gloves will cause your hands to slip cousin." Rand shrugs again. Rand loses the duel yes, but to call it "fair" isn't really...well, fair. Toram Riatin is one of the best swordsman in the land. He is top 5 according to RJ himself, and Rand goes pretty much even with him with gloves and and jacket hindering him.
@alb0zfinest

If Rand thought it was a real hindrance, he probably wouldn't keep it. Considering he is learning different fighting styles, it could actually be part of the way he fights.
@Gunleaver
@Gunleaver 4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a duel, it was a sparring match. Also, he didn't lose, it got interrupted and when Rand and everyone else who is not Min and obsessed with him, were paying attention to the evil mist that had suddenly trashed their tent, Toram Riatin sucker punched him. It was not war, it was not combat, it was not even a duel, which has formal rules, and you lose if you cheat. It was a sparring match intended to test skill with swords. Daniel is 100% wrong in his characterization of the event as Toram defeating Rand and nearly as wrong in his assertion that Rand should have been ready for the sucker-punch because combat rules. Combat rules say pay attention to the real threat, that eats people whole, not the delusional moron with a stick in his hand.

"Rand loses because he's not that amazing of a swordfighter yet" 🤦🏽‍♂️ several books ago Lan told Rand he was near the level of a blademaster, and Rand more than matched Toram. He was struck once only because he got distracted when Mashadar attacked. It's heavily implied Toram has had his mind warped by Fain/Mashadar into hatred for Rand, possibly explaining why he was so fixated on hurting Rand he ignored the threat of Mashadar around him

- Envoy is just not the right word for Elaida’s mission to the Black Tower. Envoys are sent to talk, not kill. This is not nitpicking over Wheel of Time knowledge, this is plain English. - We do NOT learn about the connection between Sammael & the Shaido at the beginning of the book. Rather, we get Sevanna’s PoV on Dumai’s Wells, and her plans to meet up again with a stranger. She was NOT working FOR him, rather they are cooperating on a deal-by-deal basis and she isn’t doing anything at his behest. It is not until the end of the book that he sends them through gateways. We know exactly why Sammael does this, and he doesn’t think they are important enough to hate. He does it to place them in the southern area of the continent where they will cause chaos among the nations, and a large number of them will be in the path of Rand’s army that is invading Illian, which will slow the army down and make it take casualties. - Morgase is not suddenly suicidal out of nowhere. At the beginning of the book, she is enjoying herself hanging with Pedron Niall, in spite of her comfortable and polite captivity. Then Niall is assassinated and Valda takes over the Children of the Light. Later in the book, Morgase is depressed and feeling bad because we learn in a flashback that Valda let Raddam Asunawa torture her and then she agreed to sleep with him to prevent more torture. - At the point where Morgase contemplates suicide, she does so not out of depression or in response to long-standing abuse, but BECAUSE the Seanchan invaded and captured the Fortress where she is being held, and Suroth wants to use her as a figurehead to legitimize their future conquest of Andor. She speaks the words of abdication to prevent this, and also contemplates suicide to prevent them from doing it against her will. The invasion does NOT change her mind, it is what inspires her wanting to do it. - The comment about Morgase’s future implies that she’s in the Seanchan’s hands at the end of the chapter. In fact, Niall’s secretary, Balwer, who will be Perrin’s future spymaster, arranges her escape, which he had been planning to spite Valda, but which is now conveniently prepared to get her away from the Seanchan. - Rand is the PoV for a VERY few number of chapters. We follow Perrin’s PoV in the journey back to Cairhien, and only get to one Rand chapter when he sneaks into Caemlyn to order the invasion of Illian, another where he meets with the clan chiefs to demonstrate Merana’s subservience, and then Cadsuane shows up, a couple more chapters where he has the relationship talk with Min and visits the Sea Folk, and then a fifth and final chapter where he wakes from a coma from Padan Fain’s wound and goes after Sammael and kills him and takes the city of Illian. Five chapters out of more than thirty, is not being with Rand A LOT. There are a few chapters where he is present, in other people’s PoV, like four from Perrin’s at the beginning and a couple from Min’s when they visit the rebel camp, and that blurb where they have sex. So maybe a dozen chapters have Rand present. That’s less than one third of the book and we are in Rand’s head for less than half of that. They are not crazy random order, they are chronological order along with the other events of the book, This is a strictly chronological book, although the prologue overlaps a bit with the prior book, and the last chapter takes place after the next book. But all the events in the book take place in the order in which they occurred. - The stuff about Rand going around checking out the Maidens is not a look at Rand’s psyche, because it is from Perrin’s PoV. We know what he’s doing, because he established that behavior in a prior book. - Taim does not like the small size of Rand’s guard or their low ranks. He is not objecting to Rand taking an Asha’man escort, he wants it to be bigger and more prestigious. - “Some woman” has been a key background political figure for three books now. It IS important who she is, because Rand was trying to avert her death foretold in one of Min’s viewings and his impotence in that regard is another problem for his mental state. - The Berelain thing was not about Berelain’s ability to protect herself it was about her staying in Rand’s favor. Rand was sending her away because her service as his henchman was causing political problems which caused her assassination attempt, but also meant he couldn’t use her as governor. He’s perfectly willing to send her into danger if she wants to do it, which he does. And not because of some sexism argument, but to reassure her that he’s not going to forget what she’s done for him. - Rand isn’t hemming and hawing about lines of free consent, he simply believes he physically forced her. People in WoT are not all that concerned with those issues, and if it is a thing, nearly every sexual encounter of Mat’s life until he gets married involves that blurry line of free consent. - Min does not mold Rand into anything. The point of their relationship is that she puts no demands on him and does not make him do anything. She goes along with whatever he wants as long as he keeps her around and accepts their relationship with her. He doesn’t listen when she tells him something is a bad idea, and she doesn’t really try to enforce any of that, as long as he lets her come along. Also, emphasizing Min’s primacy as his love interest is a weird way to describe an incident which highlights that he loves two other women just as much as she. Two women who are much more narratively important to plot at that. - Rand knows damn well that his ta’veren nature is affecting the Sea Folk, he does NOT feel guilty and takes advantage of it and even goes on to the rebel encampment in the hopes of exploiting it further. His sole reason for leaving was the claustrophobic attack.

And this is not an analysis or conclusion with which I disagree, it's a video for the purpose of telling people what happens in the story and is factually incorrect. @@Gunleaver sure I see what you are saying I'm not expert on WoT but I too notice the inaccurate parts of these summaries. However it's very, very clear in the conceptualisation of the video that its a stream of conciousness rambling summary and not a step by step accurate portrayal of the plot and character points. I get that it's not fully fleshed out or accurate and I also get that if ur looking for that in the video it would be annoying but I don't think the video presents itself like that at all. It presents itself as a rough summary from his memory and brief notes. I think chastising his artistic priorities is also a moot point because Daniel should be able to prioritise and spend time on what he wants to do. Don't get me wrong if Daniel was portraying these videos as a comprehensive summary of all the important moments, and the videos were long and slow paced with video essay like visuals then sure I'd agree with your sentiment but it's not presented that way at all so I whilst I think it's fair to point out the inaccuracies I don't think it's worth being upset about as you haven't really been misold anything. your views on Rand as a sword fighter at this point are strange. It has been two books since he routinely fought 5v1. To say he "isnt that good with a sword yet" is contradictory to your previous videos. Toram Riatin was a skilled blademaster and fanatically fighting rand who was not even into the fight. He had seen Padan Fain with Toram and that was why he approached him. The outcome of a fake duel at a party while a bubble of evil is less important than the fight itself where rand showed he easily matched Toram a known high ranking blademaster.

If that was the case, Birgitte would be pronounced something like « Bir jitt ». Also, I love yoir videos. I’m reading the summaries on tor.com and watching your videos to pick up the series again. I dropped off at book 11 when Jordan died and thought the series would never be completed. Awesome work!

I thought Rand taking the crown of Illian was because he felt he earned it. Just finished the book-I always watch these right after reading to try and get another angle on the book. Rand seized Cairhein and Tear by force, so he didn't feel that he truly deserved to rule there. In Illian, he seized the city yes but it seemed he intended to leave another puppet government there to help when the apocalypse came. But the Council of Nine offers him the throne because he shipped grain from Tear(a terrible move from a political standpoint in Tear) to stave off famine, and later Sammael as Lord Bren used it exclusively for the army. So the Council felt they were getting a just and noble ruler in Rand. Thus Rand felt he had truly earned the Crown of Swords.

@@stephengrant4841 There were some moments in there, but you have to admit, this book (and 4-6) was extremely slow. Every book can be cut by 300 pages and you wouldn't miss anything. How many times is the feeling of the one power going to be described, how many times is Matt going to say blood and bloody ashes for the trillionth time, as if those are the only words he knows, how many times is Nynaeve going to tug at her stupid braid, how many times are matt and pretty much everybody going to argue about pointless stuff, how many times are characters barely mentioned once described in detail when they don't matter at all and don't contribute to anything, how many times are the same places going to be described over and over again by different characters, how many times are these supposed philosophical discussions are going to be had that literally sound like someone who hasn't even taken philo 101 etc etc I wish there was a decent editor that was used from the beginning. I've only read till book 7, but considering that book 1 had such an amazing start (even though most first books in a series are tedious) to now fall to this, it's frustrating.

the only thing I have to correct, because I know you love corrections :p Rand and dude from the rebellion don't exactly duel, they spar with practice swords. Everyone watching notes that Rand is a blademaster and is easily holding his own for the fight. He does end up slightly on the defensive towards the end but then people start dying, he looks away, and basically gets bopped on the head.

Honestly I was pissed at the Ebou Dar story line as it was so slow in the beginning and made reading parts of book 6 and 7 very tough to continue reading. However, once Mat moved in the queen's castle things picked up the pace and that story line unfolded beautifully. Probably one of my favourite storylines thus far.

Corrections from 6:49 on - The Cairhien rebels have noble allies from Tear, not Andor. There are some mercenaries who used to fight for Rahvin in the camp, but no Andoran nobles. Also Rand does not walk right in. He & Min are found by the leaders who are out hunting, and they take Rand & Min back to their camp, with only one of them knowing who he is. He does NOT know her at all, and does not pretend to be someone else. She (Carline Damodred, what is with the forgetting women’s names?) simply recognizes him because he has a distinctive appearance, in spite of his lame disguise (an ordinary coat and gloves). She is the one who gives him a cover identity. - Seriously, look up the word “envoy”. In this case, I think you meant “entourage” but he doesn’t have one of those, either, he has Min. - Some guy he ends up fighting is the heir of the last king of Cairhien, who was ruling when Rand first visited the city in the Great Hunt and whose death sparked a civil war. He challenges Rand, because he is jealous of Carline’s attention. - Rand does NOT lose the sparring match (it’s not a duel, since there is no asserted issue they are fighting over; Toram might have an intention of bullying him, but it is presented as a friendly practice match), he matches Toram stroke for stroke and his skill impresses Carline, at the least, who realizes he is a blademaster. Toram sucker punches Rand when a bubble of evil manifests and everyone is distracted by it, and then claims he won. - Daniel Greene is a moron of an armchair fighter. A great swordsman or any kind of great warrior should prioritize a real threat, which Rand does, turning his attention from the clown with a wooden practice sword, to the BUBBLE OF EVIL that suddenly starts killing people! - Padan Fain had NOTHING to do with the distraction. Rand saw him, he was nowhere to be seen during the duel and had nothing to do with the bubble of evil. The mist is not specifically malicious towards Rand and is not directed. It is clearly a random thing, which normal people and channelers are able to fight off with steel or the Power. - They do not HAVE to walk out, Rand is not familiar enough with the encampment to make a gateway out (and the low visibility presumably prevents him from learning it) and he is maintaining his cover as an ordinary relative of Carline’s, anyway. - Fain cuts Rand on the side, which is also where the wound from Ba’alzamon was. And as I recall, in a prior summary, Daniel also got the location of the wound wrong, despite showing a correct illustration in the video! - Rand does not die right away, because Cadsuane is there to Heal him, she has Samitsu & Corele help and calls them two of the best Healers, because she has not met Damer Flinn, Sumeko or Nynaeve yet. And then Osan’gar, who is Aginor transmigrated to a new body under the name Dashiva, has Flinn actually seal the two wounds away in order to fight each other. There is not a description of his wound as being gross, in fact, someone says that is like a cyst filled with evil INSTEAD of pus. - There ARE, not “is”, a lot of casualties. - Moridin and Rand cross balefire while fighting Mashadar, not Sammael. - The only thing Mashadar does is eat people, not a lot of horrible things. One thing. Eats them. - The balefire did NOT hit Sammael, because Rand would have noticed. Robert Jordan said in an interview that Mashadar got him. But Daniel does not read Robert Jordan’s books, so I can’t imagine he would read interviews. - The reason the Council of Nine gives for the crown is that Rand has been feeding the civilian population all this time when Sammael would have starved them to supply his army. They outright tell him that even if he conquered them, they might normally have elected a king to be subordinate to him. This is important, because it has to do with why Rand accepts the crown and it is a step on his path to hubris. - Stop saying “here” or “now” for transitions to different events and settings. You almost always are wrong. The book ends with Rand’s coronation. Elaida’s bit was much earlier. - The escape is not Egwene’s fault, and believe me, I would say if it was. If Egwene had made Moghedian's identity public knowledge, she would have been executed and all the advantage of having her prisoner would be lost. What’s more, people would have figured out where Egwene was getting the “new” weaves she was getting credit for “inventing” and the whole point of that subterfuge, to make the Aes Sedai take her more seriously, would have been undone. - Nynaeve & Elayne go to the Sea Folk, because Egwene tells them not to return to the rebel caravan after they find the Bowl, because of politics. They go looking for help from the Sea Folk, so they can use the Bowl once they find it. - The Sea Folk do not agree to help them look and have nothing to do with finding the Bowl. - They don’t ask for Mat’s help because of the Band, since the Band is following Egwene’s group. They ask Mat because he’s ta’veren. But at least we don’t have to hear Daniel say “TALveren” so I’ll count that as a plus. - Nynaeve is not present for the Aes Sedai meeting about the Kin. - The gholam was made by Aginor, not the Dark One. - The gholam is not designed to kill Warders, because it was invented before Warders existed. Moridin & Lews Therin both note that the Warder bond is something with which they have no experience. - Mat’s skill has little to do with the gholam, his success and survival is entirely due to his medallion burning the gholam and causing it to freak out. There really is no indication of it have much skill, since it has great physical prowess, it doesn’t need skill. Mat swings the medallion around so the gholam leaves, rather than risk another hit. The important thing is that Mat steps up against a dangerous foe because he promised to protect the gholam’s target. That’s the only reason, not because he is confident of his skill or ability to fight it, which makes what he does more extraordinary, and Elayne recognizes this which is why she does a 180 in her opinion of him, which had previously been shaped by Egwene’s trash talking him and Nynaeve’s disapproval of his lifestyle. - The Seanchan don’t attack while they are returning to the palace. They return, they have meetings, they try to persuade the Windfinders to leave the city to use the Bowl safely, Mat eventually convinces them with some ta’veren help, and then, right before they leave, he finds Olver has gone out into the city, so Mat & his entourage, with help from Thom & Juilin go looking for him, while the women leave, and during their extensive search of the city, Mat sees the Seanchan attack. In the next book, we see the women had time to travel to the Kins’ farm, use the Bowl, sort through the cache from the storehouse and do a lot of other personal interactions before they see the Seanchan are arriving.
