What a wonderful idea!! I can’t wait to see the seamstresses again!🥰 Even though I’m not traveling this summer, I can always use ideas for sewing projects I can do when I’m not at home.

This is something that I do frequently. One thing I learned in my last trip to Europe was that although the US will allow thread snips, other countries won’t. I lost a wonderful pair of Fiskers snips at the Charles de Galle airport. I also got stopped because they would see sewing supplies when my carry on was xrayed and hand search my bag. My suggestion is to put your sewing supplies into a zip top bag and pull it out of your carry on, just like your liquids so it’s easier to examine. Even when I didn’t have scissors, my hemostats raised a red flag. Preplan what you are taking. Cut it out and pre serge all areas that will need to be serged. You can also run gathering stitches on large items, like skirts as that’s hard to do in a car or in a flight. I like to have a couple different projects with me so if I get stuck or bored I can switch. Also, consider printing out directions. I usually read them off my phone, but I’ve been in the air with no connectivity and found out that the pattern I’ve downloaded is now in the cloud and I can’t access it. I’ve been known to do a theme when traveling. Last year when we traveled from the east coast to Oklahoma, I did boys dress shirts. I had cut out 5 or 6 to work on and then brought some more material to cut some more out.

I have a hand sewing kit that I bring with me that includes a pack of hand sewing needles, snips, hemostats, marking pen, pins (lately when traveling, I’ve been taking my magnetic pin holder so I don’t lose pins), snaps, elastic and white and black thread. Remember to add matching thread for your project. Velcro is too hard to sew by hand. I either wait till I get home or use snaps. I also have a travel iron, but do t use it often and only in the states. The last project I sewed in Europe was a Thimbles and Acorns dress and it didn’t get pressed until I got home. Just remember to finger press when you can and stitch seams down in the direction you will press them later.
