Today I want to sit down and talk briefly about something I think we all want to improve and get better at as filmmakers.. Storytelling. This year I want to focus more on it and try and push myself to make much more meaningful videos. I share my thoughts on some ways to become a better storyteller when creating your videos/films.

Hey, thought I'd film alittle video sitting down and talking about something super important: Storytelling. I think it's something I am trying to really improve on this year, I found myself at times last year really unmotivated to make things because I got caught up in stuff like effects, or gear or all the other things that should be tools to help make your story stronger. A goal of mine is definitely to become better at this in 2018, and I hope some of the stuff I talk about in this video can help you aswell. Want to really make an effort to make tutorial/technique videos this year with my short films to hopefully share some of the stuff I've learnt over the years. Thanks again for the love, we just hit 70k... which is just unreal.

Story is something I always struggle with and I just realized a few months ago how important the story is. Since I realized, how important storytelling is, I always try to tell one. I just try to transform my thoughts into visuals. I think this one of the best parts of Filmmaking, Photography and writing stuff. You are able to tell your story, you can give your life a voice and with the internet and Social Media you can share your unique story with the world. This is so amazing, everyone can learn from each other! I mean, I'm 15 years old sitting in Germany and learning stuff from people far away, people from Canady, the USA, Asia, Africa and all other parts of the world. This is so awesome! Greetings from Germany. :)

The story has always been what I look for in any media that I consume. My favorite video games are the ones rooted in lots of lore, my favorite TV shows and movies are the ones that drag you into their world and really immerse you. I'm still learning how to bring more storytelling into my KZfaq videos, but I've always been a storyteller. I started writing novels in elementary school and that is still my biggest dream. This was a great video. Thanks for sharing your advice with us. You and Giovanni Montalvo are such inspirations for me as a filmmaker.

That's why I love storytelling, its not bounded by one medium, it transcends everything. Being able to transfer different techniques and ways people communicate stories and using it in my own films is something i'm trying to get better at doing. I truly appreciate that, we have some exciting news we will be announcing really soon that I think you'd be really happy about.. stay tuned :)

Great video, it would be great if you could make more videos like this one! One of the biggest challenges for me on KZfaq is telling a story that others can relate to. I think KZfaq is a great platform for filmmakers because one has to constantly improve in order to win over their audience. Suddenly you have to start asking yourself "How do I build a bridge between I and that other person watching my videos, how do I communicate with them?"

I agree with you. I think the whole package is important. The pictures, the music, the emotions. All together you can create an interesting story, even if it's hard to get there. But like everything I think it's a process. Like you say "Nobody is perfect" but everyone has a unique style of editing and filming and telling storys even if you try to 'copy' somebody, so it's nice to watch videos from different people :) I really like your style of videos!! It's hard to stand out from all this people who does films but it's also nice to watch all the different styles :)

You've grown so much and are becoming more and more inspiring each day, each video. I agree totally with everything you said, especially the genuine part. Stories are what makes videos worth watching, worth remembering and being truthful to yourself will always work well if you put practice side-to-side with it, hard work shouldn't be about vain content, the real meaningful things are what distinguish good films from average. I think you're going far, I do hope so at least since you deserve it for all the evolution.

“To me, some of the best movies are the ones which can invest you into a world and make you feel some sort of emotion”. Perfectly said! I've been trying to tell a story with out any dialogue to help me get more shots with composition and not always have a narrator like have the camera as if it's another character in the films or another person point of view. Being a film maker I realized that home is not just a place with walls and a place where you sleep and with your family, but it's the whole world. I know I know cheesy lol. Love this video by the way! and I like what you said, "No one can copy your story. " and I have a stigmatism too.

Also I would really love to see the style of Cinematics and short my years and stuff to become more visual, more story like, and that's why you mister Alli are Amazing!!! You are able to combine cineamtics and short films and make a powerful story that connects to people, young and tall, old or small! Even your "My Year" Had me on tears LOL, I did love it when you did those short stories about other people and about the artificial light and all of those things, back at like 10k subs I think... Oscar Pedroso you might be born with it, you might be talented at something but it doesn't mean that is the end all. Talent is one thing but someone who works 10x harder than you who doesn't have "talent" is going to surpass you. The cool thing about storytelling is that it's something I think we all have the power to do, and with the more time you invest in it, the better you become at it!
