Let's Talk About TonyHax - New PS1 Softmod Backup Loader (2021)

Recently, a new PS1 softmod backup loader was released under the name of tonyhax. The original v1.0 came out with support for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 where if you had a PS1 memory card with the modified save game file on it, when you create a skater, the exploit launches and you can swap out your legit disc with a backup disc in its place.
This is pretty cool. At the time of this writing, I'm waiting for my own copy of THPS2 to arrive, and I'll do my own demo as well. I'm excited that PS1 is getting some love since PS2 seems to get all the attention these days. See more details in the link section below, thanks!

I was given a ps1 and ps2 over the weekend so to me this release was perfectly timed. FBMC'd the ps2 and set up tonyhax on the ps1.

I've always used the Breaker Pro swap disc to play PS1 backups on my PS2. Works great.

Great solution too. I don't have that so I can't try that out, others maybe in the same boat. Nice to have solutions though.

I didn't try it, but I read somewhere that this hack was working on some PS2 models... It might worth trying.

This comment is unrelated to your video but I just wanted to ask how to put background music in OPL's game list. The background music plays when you are browsing your game list in OPL. I manged to do it a couple years ago but sadly I forgot how I did it. I can't access the PS2-Home website and I am unable to ask the people who are knowledgeable regarding OPL, that's why I'm asking you if you know how to do it. If you know, could you please make a quick tutorial on how to do it. Thanks a lot for hearing me out.

@@TheOriginalVersatile It could be a feature of an old OPL version. If I recall correctly, I was using OPL Anniversary Edition. I can't remember whether it should be an mp3, wmv or bgm file and where to put the file. I am not sure if you have to create a MUSIC folder in the root of your USB and put the file there. But I swear to god I managed to make it work before, I just can't remember how. I used my favorite video game soundtrack as background music in OPL game list.

If I start Crash Bandicoot 3 on PS2 via OPL / Popstarter / Internal Hard Drive, will it work?

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia I tried to see if TonyHax booted up and the console crashed (scph-50004). It could be a very nice idea for the developer anyway. I've got an original copy of Crash 3 (and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 too) but if you can launch Tonyhax via OPL you can avoid wearing out the tray opening and closing it twice everytime you wanna play. If then it could recognize and boot directly the backup it would be an amazing solution.
