Great video and great project! I've been following it since the beginning on PSX-Place but at the moment the idea of having to use it via a PC doesn't interest me, however in the future I would like to compile the server for my Orange Pi with OpenWRT, but for now I'm more than satisfied with SMB which I've been using for years.

whenever i boot up opl, i get the "200: no network adaptor detected" error even though there is a response on the udpbd server on my pc. any advice?

Tried the router method (mini wifi router connected to PS2 and hard drive with games connected to computer) and there was a ton of FMV skipping in Silent Hill 2 (way worse than MX4SIO). Direct method is the way to go

After troubleshooting and learning the "In" and "Out" of getting this to work on Windows (and I also tested it in Linux too), I have to say the UDPBD network method is pure awesome for enjoying PS2 games. See video description for some tips, and if you get stuck, by all means reach out to the devs at psx-scene.com forums or their discord. Game compatibility should be good, but when in doubt, test it and see for yourself. If you are using this already, or plan to, let us know! xD

Can I connect the ps2 directly to the computer's ethernet port? If I can, should I use a normal cable or a crossover cable? I tried everything and no matter what I do no games are shown in the list.

I love the advances being made! Do you know how to possibly connect PS2 slim via travel router to have access to the roms backed up onto an Unraid server? Recently got that running and it is always online and has capacity, so would love to be able to connect and load from there instead of having to set up a VM or leave my PC always on.

Howzit man? I'm needing help on a previous video from using smb with router. I managed to get my games to show and work after a long struggle, the only problem I'm having now is my microphones don't want to work on singstar. I did it with smb so that I could use my mics and now it doesn't want to. Could you please find a solution for me? Thanks in advance

It shows the settings menu after booting opl ,once I exit to chech game's folder ,black screen all through. The ip address is not showing on my command prompt too, but my smb setup works fine . Please what could be the issue ?

Make sure it is the only network connection between the ps2 and the computer. Turn off antivirus and firewall, see if that helps. Otherwise, ask the discord or ps2 scene forum

Hi, I have ps2 slim that came as matrix chip installed, I want to play the games using pendrive.. I don't understand the technical terms displayed by the console, I wonder how many ways are there to do this, it would be helpful if you could share a detailed tutorial for this from start to end😢

If you got to psx-scene.com, or search youtube (OPL tutorial USB drive) you will find tons of tutorials. The bottom line is you will need to learn how to load a program called ulaunchelf. Think of it as a file explorer for the PS2. From there, you can load a homebrew program called OPL , or open ps2 loader for short. When a USB thumb drive has games installed to it properly, then you can play games from USB. It is a magical experience, really. It should if you've been using SMB on you PS2. Just need the right OPL. You can use funtuna /open tuna to set it up. I have a 90000 model PS2 Slim as well and I have it working on SMB using Funtuna.

If fw 9.0 you can jailbreak it. If above, then play ps4 games or use it for blu ray player I guess. Maybe Netflix, etc.

It's pretty cool, right? I was experimenting with the setup, but I used obs studio and then I have an older el gato hd 60s. From the PS2, I have a generic ps2 av output to hdmi adapter and run the hdmi into the el gato. From the el gato, it is a usb cable to my PC that funnels into obs studio. The hd 60s has an issue with PS2 audio, so I run a digital sound out from the ps2 and into a line in on my PC sound card. It sounds like a lot of work maybe, but I'm pleased with final results.

For me everything is fine until the last step I don't get the "UDPBD_CMD_INFO along with an ip" I am using exFat on the USB I did setup the special OPL version meant for UDPBD and I did setup CD and DVD folders for it and put the isos inside. I've tried restarting the CMD program and PS2 as well but so far no luck.

Welcome to the club of troubleshooting. Is this Windows or linux? Turn off antivirus and firewall, see if that helps.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia Thanks for a reply I'n using the windows version I've noticed my ps2 network only works with a certain bedroom setup or else ethernet doesn't work which is quite strange but I am not surprised I am using a switch and the network almost only works with the pc/ps3 but not much else not sure why I even have the red timeout screen inside of "Your Network Configuration" most of the time.

when I load max payne 2 through smb it gives me black screen. Any fix for this?

Can you try another game to see if it works? Outside of udpbd, does max payne 2 work through the older smb sharing method?

Check the ISO, could have been a bad ISO dump. Trying turning on the different modes in the game settings like Mode 1 or 2 or 6.

@@TheOriginalVersatile You don't even need that... Only the target and the dependencies! "OpenWrt Image-builder" + if UDPBD-Server or UDPBD-Vexfat have dependencies, those + fetch + go to dir + make --> Should be sufficient...

There's really no need to put CD based games in the CD folder. I put mine in the DVD folder and they work perfectly. OPL Manager is even able to obtain the artwork for them

You need the network adaptor for this. If you don't have one or don't want to get one, you are stuck to running the games from USB or HDD

I can't speak for mini router as I don't know how to make it run the server, but for the pi since it can run linux it should work. That's my next phase of testing on my pi 4. I got it working in Linux in a virtual machine for time being on Mint OS.

@@MichaelM28 Quite easy. You need the gcc for the target-platform, the source and just type "make". The "image builder" stuff for OpenWrt should have all the needed tools included.

Turn off firewall, see if that helps. We need to see the ps2 reply back to the server once OPL loads, not even before you start BDM. If you don't get that reply, its time to troubleshoot.

@Project Phoenix Media still don't see games The firewall is off The opl Folder which is my hard driver i used for s m b and usb all the time the isos are name correctly And the folders Are in the correct spots So I know it's not that As far as network I play minecraft on my pc all the time And i play ps2 games online with my ps2 on a network which work fine As far as troubleshoot there's nothing to troubleshoot I guess it can't be compatible Now I am using a old version of windows 10 so that might have something to do with it 🤔

Really intresting but its bit of a shame you need device formatted in FAT32/exFAT instead of NTFS for this to work.

@@tnaplastic2182 FAT32 and exFat only supports filesize up to 4 gigabytes so if you have a PS2 iso that requires more than 4 gigabytes, you would need to split the ISO making this method bit more complicated. With SMB+NTFS iirc you can just run them as is. For the why you need FAT32/exFAT, I guess it was easier for the dev to implement
