I hate it when people let their dogs do whatever they want, probably because they figure, "hey, since they love me, they'll love everything else!" Reminds me of one time I found a young rabbit probably discarded from Easter. I was trying to lure it close to me to try and capture it and possibly turn it in to the Humane Society. I was so close until this one lady's unruly dog, who WASN'T on a leash, charged towards the rabbit and was dead set on chasing it. I tried to hold it back as best as I could, but it was a big yellow lab, and eventually it charged past my holding it back and chased the rabbit out of site. The older woman who owned the dog just laughed and said that that was just what her dog was like. The next day I found the rabbit dead and petrified. You're right, some people think they know everything about an animal just because they own one.

That right there is why I think half of people who own pets shouldn't have them in the first place. They have them as some sort of accessory, and not properly caring for them. My next door neighbor has a pretty little husky who they don't take out on walks or play with. She stays in the backyard all day and constantly wants attention when I go out back cus she sticks her nose out the fence. I feel bad for it as she could be a good dog if she was properly cared for. I'd like a pet myself, but I know better than to just get one and believe I can care for it when in reality I can't for whatever reason. Having a pet is a lifelong commitment.

The opposite word of "dominant" is "submissive" in English when referring to canine behavior.Your only fault was having a stupid boyfriend. You told him the correct thing to do. He was not vigilant in his caring about Yoshi's well being; any more than Yoshi's original falconer was vigilant about Yoshi's care. You did not do it, so don't blame yourself for someone else's bad behavior. Only, next time you get a boyfriend, make sure he is someone who has a well trained dog. The fact that Hoshi was untrained should have told you something about the owner; he was a man who was only interested in himself. The fact you had to always be the one to go to his house is another thing that should have flagged you as to his not-so-good personality. You have very high standards; especially where your animals are concerned. You need to be with someone who shares those high standards with you. Then you will never have to worry about the safety of your animals.

You are right about dogs, and people ",humanize" them. Cats and dogs are preditors and I never forget that when I take my parrot outside with me. Because such pets are treated like "babies" now, people seem to have forgotten their genetics and instincts. I have gotten into more than one situation with someone who would not leash their dog or call it back, when I am out with my bird in public. We have a leash law here that many ignore. How can you have a dog along with your owl? I would never risk it! I trust no preditors (pets) around my bird. The sweetest dogs and cats are still eaters of small animals. I figure it is my job to protect my bird, a prey animal, from any threats. I take that very seriously and wish every bird owner did. Sorry for your lost and thanks for your story.

If you're boyfriend dog has wolf in it then it's consider a wolf hybrid and the picture you of the k9 is a low content but regardless of the amount of wolf in the K9 they are consider wolf then dog in needs of strict training but other than that don't blame yourself, accidents are bond too happens and we always have to learn and educate ourselves so none of the accident won't happen again in the future

That wolf hybrid had too strong a prey drive to be around other animals. The motion of the other animal triggers the drive to pursue and kill; it is instinctual. It is the owners fault, not yours. He was ignorant and in the US would be charged and serve time in jail for this crime.

You said something really, really great - that it's not up to the animals to learn our language but that we need to learn theirs. Of course, they do pick up a lot and understand a lot, but that's all the more reason to make the effort to make ourselves understood to them. I'm really sorry for what happened to Yoshi...Of course it's always easy in retrospect, but it isn't your fault - you told him, after all...Sad that your boyfriend didn't listen to you back then...Expecially since, as you say, they were YOUR birds, so it's really disrespectful of him, too. I absolutely agree with what you said about the lesson to take away from this - that if you know what's best for your animal (you know your animal better than anyone else, after all), you shouldn't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've experienced that a lot, people having pretty much no idea but judging, assuming, patronising you anyway on how to best treat your animal. Of course, advice is a very, very important thing, and one needs to be open for new ideas and all that, but if you have the responsibility for an animal, you are the one who's supposed to make sure that this animal gets the best life it can have.

You learned a valuable lesson, so it wasn't for nothing. Your life will benefit from this and it was a blessing. Don't be sad - it doesn't help anyone and Yoshi does not want this for you, he wants to be a happy thought.

Don't put so much blame on yourself, and do not be afraid to speak up next time. And trust me I know where you're going with this, believe me I've been in a similar situation. I have a lot of pets, 2 dogs (used to be three but the eldest dog sadly passed away), 5 cats, 2 parakeets, 5 chickens and 2 goats. However, our goats and chickens enclosure is placed directly on the other side of the fence that separates us from our neighbours. Our neighbours have these dogs, in fact one of my cats used to belong to them, anyway however these dogs are somewhat friendly to their owners and people, but they were not fully trained and what made it worse was they constantly tried to get into our yard where the goats are It was fine at first because nothing happened at first, so it didn't seem like an issue. But one day, a few of the bigger dogs managed to dig a hole and get inside a goat enclosure and attacked our goats. Thank goodness me and my mother were home at the time, because any longer and those dogs would've killed our goats and possibly our chickens too (I don't think they were just after my goats). We managed to patch up the poor things, and cover up the place they came in from so it wouldn't happen again now knowing that those dogs know where our goats are and have a taste for them no doubt (I assume it's their predator instincts gone wild and they view our goats and chickens as prey or potential intruders even though the goats were nowhere inside their territory). My family figured it wouldn't happen again, but I was paranoid because the entire bottom parts of the fence where the fence meets the ground was not covered or blocked. I tried to tell them we should cover everything up, but they either didn't listen or thought I was too paranoid. And about several weeks after they recovered, it happened again. The neighbour dogs found a new way in, and attacked our goats again. This time I was there and managed to chase them out of there (I was not too scared either even if they were to turn on me and attack), they may have not been my dogs but I would've taken a rose bush branch and whacked those dogs across the face if it means the protection of my animals. Anyways, I was so scared, sad, but mostly pissed off at my neighbours for not training or controlling their dogs. We managed to patch them up again and cover up most of the possible entrances and it hasn't happened since. But I will never forgive my neighbours for this, I know it's not that they are letting this happen on purpose, and they can't be around 24\7 to watch their dogs or help prevent them from getting in again. But I cannot let this slide again, I know it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners fault for not training or keeping an eye on their dogs. Yes the dogs were taken over by instinct and they were being over-territorial, so this doesn't technically make them the villain in this situation. Still, I knew very well that if those dogs get or see an opportunity to do something this brutal they'll take it. Those dogs would have and will kill our goats and chickens given the opportunity, no question about it. The next time I catch them in our property doing something like that again and it'll be the last time they'll do it, and I will call animal control. Sometimes I just wanted to march up to my neighbours and give them a piece of my mind and a warning 'control your dogs or they will be taken away someday.' But, I refrain from doing it because first of all I'm not good at it and I'm too nice, second of all I can't because I don't want to look like the bad guy of that kind of situation, and lastly I mustn't because they have a right to kick me off their property or call the police. I'm not trying to threaten anybody, I just don't want anyone's innocent critters being killed by a not-so-well-behaved animal or predator. And believe me the next time those dogs enter our property where the goats and chickens are I will make them learn the hard way. I may be paranoid but I know they'll try again to kill our animals someday given the opportunity. I don't want to hurt anybody or their animals but I'd go to the extreme measures to protect my own animals. Because had I not been there the second time out goats wouldn't have stood a chance.

Elke I do not have an Owl..I wish I could, Because I have always been Fascinated by Owls since I made a report for school when i was in the 4th grade..Such a Majestic animal! as later in Life I realized every animal on this planet has each something very special about them..down to the cute little squirrels i feed everyday in my back yard. I use to work overseas in a dozen or more different countries And I thought then I wanted to get a M'Caw Parrot, I came so close to buying one, And some one like you saved me from making that mistake as I found out these massive birds require a good amount of attention...and depriving them of that they will destroy themselves pulling their own feathers out and becoming sickly Even though your Video is acclimated to Owls, what you are teaching here holds true for any Animal, And anyone i know who may be getting a pet for the first time, I try to recommend them to your site.

Grr, it makes me so angry when, people think they know how to deal with and train their dogs when, reality is they know very little about dog training. You see, I help run a dogsitting buisiness. And frankly its unbelievable how many of the dog's owners, that we have coming there, are not training their dogs properly. Its so obvious when the are not trained right. So of coarse its up to us to work on the dogs. And what irritates me the most is that the owner will 9 times out of ten think its the dog and not them! For example we have had ppl decribe the dog that is overly exitable and problematic(jumping on ppl and misbehaving with other dog etc.) because the dog is 'crazy and or wild',ugh! the ignorance of that type of thinking just bugs me,because they should know that when you own a dog-it is very much your duty to train it. One of the dogs we have jumped on a woman who was a stranger to the dog's owners, and she fell and broke her teeth, and even after that, the owners did not correct the issue with the dog! And I am very sorry for what happened to Yoshi, guilt is understandable, but it was not your fault.

Don't get me wrong, your BF sounds like a nice guy and all but he sounds a lot like my little sister. She doesn't respect animals properly and thinks she's really good with them, but in reality she doesn't respect their space and just forces her affection on them whether they like it or not. Her dog only puts up with it because he's given up trying to resist, though that's not to say she was abusing him at all, she actually treats him very well. (I imagine your BF is similar in a way. Not at all abusive to animals, but doesn't really "get" them.) It's nice to see that someone else treats animals with proper respect, not as something to be worshipped or subjugated or any other misguided ways of thinking/dealing with them, but rather to just understand that "these are the facts of this creature, you must abide by the understanding that they are sentient but their understanding and perceptions of the world are not the same as ours." It's ultimately a simple concept but seemingly one that few people truly understand, which saddens me.

My dog has a guilty or a look like I beat her all the time. She is a Shih Tzu and just looks like that. Yelling at a dog after the fact does nothing because the dog does not understand what you are yelling at the dog. Yes a first glance that was not quite a dog but perhaps a wolf. It is sad that this happened. We do know our abilities, the abilities of the dog and owl. He had no right even touching your birds of prey. In the USA, no one is allowed to touch your bird of prey but you or another falconer. I have been a falconer for 17 years and I let no one touch my birds, especially moving them from one place to another. With an owl or even a Hawk, what can go wrong will go wrong. Mistakes happen and we learn by our mistakes, and I am sure that you were really upset with what happened. I would tell my boyfriend that he is not allowed to move the owl from one place to another with at least asking you first. People who are not falconers do not understand that anything can go wrong with these birds. I am getting a hand-fed burrowing owl in a couple of days. I have a little Shih Tzu who is sweet but my bird will be attached to my side. I do not trust what the bird could do to my little dog and vice versa. If I am not holding her and need to perch her, her perch will be on the countertop. I also have a European Eagle Owl who is 15 years old but that owl will go after my dog. But I am so very sorry to learn of your experience. I feel very bad for you. It will take some time to get over it. You take care and give a kiss to your Barn Owl. I kiss my Eagle Owl all the time.

this was stereotypical mysoginist man behavior of not listening to you and respecting your instructions because you are female. This is %100 his fault. He was also stupid to not know the behavioral difference between domesticated dogs and hybrid dogs. Sounds like he didn't know anything about dogs. Also, when you are with a man like this, you should always leave them. They have issues with treating you equally. He sounds really dumb too. You have a different boyfriend now, from what you've said in other videos in the past, so you got rid of him, which was the right decision.

I agree with about 99% of what you said. But I do not think misoginy is neccesarily the explanation. There's plenty of people who are just plain dumb and still think they know better than everyone else, no matter their gender. I think more information about his beliefs and thoughts is neccesary to say for certain wether he is or not. I'm not defending him in any way, but you really shouldn't just assume everyone who is a moron is being an idiot because they disrespect women. There's tons of people (thought probably more common with men) who think they know better than experts no matter if said expert is male or female.

“C” - I agree with you. And you are not a man hater for saying it. You’ve probably experienced this countless times yourself, and if that’s the case, I’m so sorry. I’ve observed this behavior in men before who are otherwise very loving, but unwilling to listen seriously to a woman if it means she knows something he doesn’t or her viewpoint is different than his. If you do your research, you’ll find countless studies on this phenomenon that support that observation. It’s not necessarily misogyny, but it does fall under the category of patriarchal behavior, and it is regarded as a real “thing” by those who study it with objectivity and the intention of understanding actual human behavior in order to discern what kinds of differences can be observed between genders. Most people who research communication and gender are doing so because of a desire to help all of us understand one another better so that we can improve our ability to communicate with one another and have our needs for intimacy met. “C’s” observation doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of difficult women out there too. It’s interesting that Vegan Hippie likes the comment of the original poster here, which suggests that she agrees with “C” . Since she’s the only person who would truly know what was happening there, I’m prone to agree with the observation. That said - I’m so terribly sorry for your experience, Elke. ❤️ That must have been a heartbreaking experience for you. Thank you for finding the courage to share it with us anyway. It takes guts to put something like that out there for the benefit of others.
