"Wake up and... smell the physics" Interesting HL2 factoid: Valve experimented with a 'dynamic resupply' system in this game, to allow it to adapt for different weapon playstyles & a small bit of dynamic difficulty. How it works is when the yellow item boxes are broken the game decides from a table of possible items that can drop based on the player's health, armor, ammunition, and where in the game you are. In laymen's terms, you're more likely to get ammo for a weapon that you use alot, and health items spawn more frequently if you're lower on health. Save for a few exceptions in specific places where it is scripted to drop certain items every time, like "only health" or "only grenades" etc.

This system was later integrated into the game mechanics of Left4Dead btw.

Don't forget that by the time this game came out (2004), it had done a lot of things that NO OTHER GAME was implementing at the time. Today we take something as simple as physics for granted, but back then Half-life 2 was a revelation.

The OG...it forces the player to immerse and pay attention instead of blasting their way through. Still unparalleled in gaming.

The man with a suitcase is called G-man. He always watches you (if you pay attention you can notice him in the background sometimes)

Complaining that a 2004 game physics that was way ahead of its time is not realistic enough 20 years later while so many modern games still have inferior physics.

Here's an argument: If there is a single water molecule, the water is dry. But as soon as there is another water molecule touching the other water molecule, the water is wet.

28:35 this was hilarious to watch, imagining everyone watching gordon just standing there pointing and staring saying alien over and over, then realising this was his first time seeing one since black mesa

First you miss the first sighting of the 3legged thing, then at 26:10 I don't even know what to say here, do you need a FOV increase? That was incredibly silly :D I do wish you interacted (E) with civilians more, get a bit more of that juicy exposition.

His tracking on the manhacks is pretty good for a casual gamer playing HL2 for the first time!

I don't know if anyone told you yet, but there's a simple way to make ladders much less annoying in this game: 1. Press E while looking at a ladder to grab onto it. 2. While on a ladder, press E while looking at the part of the floor you want to step on to dismount.

"Quit Smoking" is of course a command that terminates the game. Of course, the "quit" command doesn't need the "smoking" argument and will do the same without any arguments.

I just stumbled upon your Portal videos and now you just streamed HL2? What a crazy coincidence. Great videos!

Will you also play Half life Alyx after 2 and the Episode games? It's one of the best VR Games out there (it's also somewhat scary like Subnautica with Jeff) Also some little thing that I noticed is that you sometime really rush through the games a bit. Take the time and look around a little more, there is sometimes so much more for you to discover that you then just overlook.

It's just how I approach most things, directly. I tend to give things a look around but once I choose a path I follow it wherever it goes until I have to turn around. So if I choose the right path first then I don't explore, if I don't then I do explore.

Heard you mention VR. If you do get a headset be sure to check out Boneworks. It's still sort of *the* VR game, but also happens to take a lot of inspiration from Half Life 2, aka revolutionary if occasionally janky physics. It's an absolutely unique experience that can truly only be had in VR- something that a lot of VR game design lacks. It's not a beginner game in terms of what it does to your body so maybe test the waters with Alyx and make sure you don't get motion sick though lol

1:18:00 HL Alxy is awesome and it's absolutely worth the price of VR Headset to play it. I bought the Index just for it. Also there are more VR Games that you could play. - Superhot VR - I expect you to die 1 - 3 - Beat Saber - Boneworks - Moss 1 & 2 - Rumble - The Psychonauts Game (but for this you should play Psychonauts 1 first) - The Half Life Alyx Mod Levitation - The Lab - And the best Game of them all that is even better than Half Life Alyx: Subnautica VR
