Sufism is much like Hinduism these batini believes are kufr not islam. these teachings clearly contradict Islam these are inspired by the devil. Sufism worship god by a way which is not done by the prophet but like other paganistic religions and the mind state these people enter is clearly demonic possession. you can choose how to worship your god but you can't be Sufi and call yourself a Muslim

Hello Philip, I wanted to tell you some things 1. You are very respected between the practitioners of Sufism, I met many friends from different traditions who praise your work and like you. 2. Thank you so much for putting this precious time and energy into the work, I like the way explain the details about the subject, specially when I get the feeling that you are deeply interested. you bring warmness to my heart each time I watch one of your works because you seem to understand how important these things are. 3. Thank you for paying attention to characters who were very special in the spiritual traditions, while there are no other quality content over KZfaq to give such a comprehensive explanation about their life and work. 4. Please keep up the good work, may god bless you, and may the support of all celestial masters be with you during your whole life time and during your own path to inner wisdom.

to your first point i doubt that they are proper traditionalist sufis because philp here is number one a borderline pseudo orientalist and is literally commercialising islam irrelevant of his true intentions and the most devastating aspect of his channel is it's secular prerogative and his Muslim audience is completely unaware of this epistemcide being committed and perhaps himself too, i am not hating on him i am calling a spade a spade any Muslim with proper islamic ilm and usul can see right through his diluted content

@@JeffEyges yeah he isn't a Muslim asfaik and approaches religion through secular academia not only islam, an approach that is fundamentally otherising because it's a study ABOUT religion(the oriental aspect) as opposed to approaching religions on thier own terms and his characterisation especially of Muslim spirituality with terms like monism or pantheism is a eurocentric one because it privileges western power/knowledge structures ontop of the indigenous religions he surveys, it's like talking about someone while they are in the room with you and ignoring them, this constructive criticism that i am leveraging to our friendly oriental here was made in macro by decolonial discourse and scholars like wael hallaq in his book restating Orientalism and many others, secular academia isn't free of bias or neutral and it's origins are colonial hence the "pseudo orientalist" charge and this channel is an extension of this colonial epistemic power structure, Philip is shooting himself in the foot and has been doing so in every single video consistently if we assume charitably that his intentions are to let religion speak for itself instead of dictating what it is from a secular privileged pedestal

@barrymoore4470
@barrymoore4470 10 ай бұрын
@@calebhesbrew9729 I know this question was not directed at me, and I am neither Muslim nor a Sufi (just someone outside the tradition who finds it interesting), but Sufism can be succinctly described as the mystical expression of Islam, analogous in this respect to Kabbalah, which is the most famous mystical iteration of Judaism. Mystics adhering to an established religion often see their practices and experiences as revelatory of hidden dimensions of the faith, not fully known or appreciated by the mass of believers, and seek to approach or understand the core reality that the religion professes to enshrine.

Having practiced sufism as a dervish in khaniqa for decades I must say that it is hard to understand what sufi concepts such as love, oneness, alchemy and annihilation really are if you haven´t delved down deeply with a loving partner in real life. I won´t say they all make up for the exeact same experience because they do not, but trust me, they are so interlinked. What sufism helps you with is to structure your love and to experience and understand how far it stretches out from you and how deep it goes into you. And with you eyes closed you see a lot better. Thanks for your videos!

This is by far the best description I have ever heard of the stateless state in which the self is annihilated and the totality of all that is becomes known as a reflection of oneself. This is my personal experience. I am anonymous here as I write, not interested in any gain. I have taken a lifetime to find this truth and you explain it so beautifully. Once this occurs there is a reemergence in which all that is seen is the seer and every face is his own. It is not an intellectual idea or a belief, but rather a realization beyond words or concepts.

I am not sufi, I am hanafi, but I love the early islamic scholars specially the ones that did dhikr...I do not agree with music but love poetry about Allah swt... I do dhikr daily after my night prayers...its done quietly but it soo powerful, you feel like connection to Allah swt, it such a journey, soo much contemplation and focusing on self rectification and purification, holding myself account for my wrongs in the day and accepting my weakness of character, deseperate need for Allah swt and beautiful mercy...I have gotten soo much sakinah tranquility in my heart and soul by practicing Islam and prayers, dhikr....its the the beautiful feeling in the world, no pleasure in the world can be comparable...beyond words... I do not agree with whirling dervishes, I find dancing distracting and devoid of true dhikr, sit in the night, in the quiet, the solace of night with Allah swt,... I do not agree with can physically unify with Allah swt, I focus on getting more conscious of Allah swt, so I wary he is watching me and I will return to him, to help me improve my character and have shyness in sinning infront of him who I cannot hide from and do not want too.... Forever wearing my burka

I express you all my gratitude for this soul elevating video. You really deserve the best for your ability to immerse us so deeply in the ocean of such high poetry. I really envy such poets as Ibn El Farid because in listening to your fervent ❤ reading of such a poet, I really feel that most of us only live at the surface, we do not really experience the fullness of life compared to these mystical poets. Now, we can at least catch a glimpse of their ecstatic experiences when their poems are made accessible to us by a person like you, a person who really feels the force of the sentiment that these texts try to express and communicate.

Please do an episode on Said Nursi, pleeeeeease? He’s really really interesting, not just from a late ottoman/post-ottoman Maturidi scholarship perspective, but especially from his philosophy of compassion and replacing hate with love/compassion. Also, Emir AbdelQader (he wasn’t just a noble freedom fighter, but also a Sufi), Ibn Barrajan, Qutb Al-Din Al-Shirazi, Abu Al-Barakat Al-Baghdadi, Qutb Al-Din Al-Razi (if I remember correctly, he lived downstairs from the previously mentioned Qutb, in the Zahiriyya School; so they dubbed him the “downstairs Qutb (pole)” Al-Qutb Al-Tahtany”. Hilarious, I know, also, he tried to balance Tusi’s philosophy with Al-Fakhr Al-Razi’s theology. A super daunting task. Note, I’m not the biggest fan of Kalam), Al-Qasim Al-Rassi (I think you’d like him), and please, please, we need more women, so do episodes on Aisha Al-Bauniyya (amazing Sufi scholar who was extremely prolific), Sitt al-'Ajam (also a Sufi, but perhaps more philosophically inclined; she has a famous commentary on Ibn Arabi) (I know she’s not a philosopher, she’s a jurist, but I think this person is interesting too: Fatima Al-Fudayliya Al-Hanbaliyya, obviously, she’s a Hanbali jurist who wrote Hanbali jurisprudence, still worth taking a look at!) Nana Asma’u, and Aisha Al-Manoubya. (I’m sure Rabia has been studied half to death already, but, if you haven’t looked at her nor Taqiyya nor Al-Khansaa, you’re probably seriously missing out) Also, there are plenty of moderns (not talkin’ contemporaries here), like Nusrat Beygum Amin, and Bint Al-Shati’ (who is from Egypt! I’m from Egypt too) Also, you could take a glance at the almost criminally under appreciated Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani رحمه الله possibly the greatest meta ethicist in history If you like contemporaries (I haven’t gotten that vibe from you), I guess Al-Zadjali, Nader El-Bizri (I’m not really impressed by him, but I guess I haven’t read enough of his work, I just prefer originality, also, scientific correlates), al-Sabziwari (I’ve read some of his philosophy in Arabic, and as a person who reads difficult texts, this guy is possibly one of if not the most difficult to read and comprehend. Not a fan), Nayef Al-Rodhan (epic dude), and so on (their students and colleagues) Also, there’s Levinas, Uexkül, Leo Strauss, Dietrich von Hildebrand, Simone Weil, Frankl, Scheler, Stein, Alistair McIntyre, Köhler, Saussure, Kojève, and so on from the non-Muslim philosophers that have come to my attention (vaguely ordered here by level of cool, probably imperfectly, please debate my ordering of the western philosophers in the comments if you have an issue) (Note: the Muslim philosophers I’ve listed here are not meant to be ordered)

Speaking of obscure Maturidis, try Chinese Muslim scholarship The scholars of the Han Kitab may be a decent place to start, Especially fascinating is how they used the Maturidi principle of accepting reason in istihsan (finding the good, this may be related to the fitra and ma hak fi sadrik hadiths) (obviously without going as far as the Mutazila with their damning those who don’t follow it, which is obviously great error since حتى نبعث رسولا indicates clemency in the non-revelatory) to try to teach Islamic concepts by reconciling Confucianist principles and critiquing them on solid bases (Please note, I am not advocating any particular philosophy of any of these people, please find me innocent, unless this idea conforms with what is correct and true وبالله التوفيق والله أعلى وأعلم) ورحم الله المسلمين جميعًا

Hey Philip, great video, the one thing I wanted to say is that I think a better translation of Al-Insan Al-Kamil would be 'The perfect Human', the complete human is a more literal translation, but in my opinion, 'perect' is a more accurate translation (and reflects the essence of the word in this context) rather than complete.

Once again a brilliantly put together video Filip. I am not sure if you've done this before but it would be great if you could make a video or a short about Metaphysics, theological doctrine and some other frequently used terms in philosophy so the uninitiated like myself can understand these videos better. Philosophy can sometimes have a very indirect way with words and makes it even more difficult to understand and appreciate. And also a short abt differences between a religion and a philosophy because to me the line is often blur.

Hello Philip ! I am completely in awe at your well-researched videos, especially those on Vedanta & Tantra. Can you please devote to each of these following topics 1) The other 5 of the 6 astika philosophies of Hinduism - Nyaya, Mimamsa, Sankhya, Yoga & Vaishesika. Nyaya is an indigenous system of logic developed by Hindus while Mimamsa is involved with interpretation of the Vedic texts. Nyaya scholar Udayana & Mimamsa scholar Kumarila Bhatta were chiefly responsible for the decline of Buddhism in India by countering Madhayamaka doctrine in public debates. In response, Madhayamaka scholars like Dharmakirti, Dignaga, Shantarakshita & Bhaviveka formulated a Buddhist version of Nyaya to refute Hindu arguments. Even Nagarjuna was said to have been proficient in Nyaya. Yoga in the Western society refers to a set of bodily postures but the true Yoga philosophy espoused in Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is far more deeper than that, covering both body & mind. Samkhya is a Hindu version of the Taoist theory of yong-yang & is essential for understanding Tantra. 2) The other 5 heretical doctrines mentioned in the Sammanaphala Sutta of the Pali canon - Ajivika, Lokayata, amoralism of Kashyapa, eternalism of Katyayana & agnosticism of Sanjaya. Ajivika doctrine had given a tough competition to both Buddhism & Jainism in it's early days before they got royal patronage from the Maurya Empire.

Would be very interesting if you could make a video on mystical religions’ views on cosmology, the plane of existence, the subtle body etc 😁 in Islam I know the Sufis have talked extensively on the subtle faculties of the soul, and how they correspond to the planes of existence/macrocosm, the inner vision, etc. I feel like it’s hard to find English translation of their works, but I want to know so badly.

From my personal psychologic interpretation ,humans can only be in love with their own idea of God , but how do we know that ,that is the same God outside of ourselves ? wel ... we can't , this realization is enough for me to awaken from this fantasy.

C. S. Lewis has an idea, I think - which is to admit your subjectivity before God Himself and humble yourself even in your belief. The following is an excerpt from his satirical novel "The Screwtape Letters", letter 4, where a senior devil is advising the junior tempter on how to disrupt the prayer of his "patient". The morality is inverted here, so God is referred to as the " Enemy". Notice what he is trying to avoid here and calls a "real prayer". If real love of God is possible, I do not see it in any other possibility but this. "If you look into your patient’s mind when he is praying, you will not find that. If you examine the object to which he is attending, you will find that it is a composite object containing many quite ridiculous ingredients. There will be images derived from pictures of the Enemy as He appeared during the discreditable episode known as the Incarnation: there will be vaguer-perhaps quite savage and puerile-images associated with the other two Persons. There will even be some of his own reverence (and of bodily sensations accompanying it) objectified and attributed to the object revered. I have known cases where what the patient called his ‘God’ was actually located-up and to the left at the corner of the bedroom ceiling, or inside his own head, or in a crucifix on the wall. But whatever the nature of the composite object, you must keep him praying to it-to the thing that he has made, not to the Person who has made him. You may even encourage him to attach great importance to the correction and improvement of his composite object, and to keeping it steadily before his imagination during the whole prayer. For if he ever comes to make the distinction, if ever he consciously directs his prayers ‘Not to what I think Thou art but to what Thou knowest Thyself to be’, our situation is, for the moment, desperate. Once all his thoughts and images have been flung aside or, if retained, retained with a full recognition of their merely subjective nature, and the man trusts himself to the completely real, external, invisible Presence, there with him in the room and never knowable by him as he is known by it-why, then it is that the incalculable may occur. In avoiding this situation-this real nakedness of the soul in prayer-you will be helped by the fact that the humans themselves do not desire it as much as they suppose. There’s such a thing as getting more than they bargained for!"
