Leaving the outgoing hose off whilst filling the new filter is essential advice. I also filled that hose up with fuel before pushing it on to the spigot - started first time - runs so much better now!!

I love how these TDI's start right up, the starter turns over once and the car starts.

Thank you, good video. And I use the same method you described to fill my fuel filter, use the vacuum pump to suck fuel into the filter.

Just did this yesterday on my ALH. Get you some clamps/vicegrips and squeeze off the fuel lines, dont have to worry about priming or air bubbles. I usually run diesel purge directly from the can too. Also lol @ 9:07

Thanks. I think you still need to fill the new filter.

Love it. I thought you might be UK due to your excellent language skills 👌. Good talk through. I'm about to do this. I was wondering where the priming was lol. Yours has done the same milage as mine

I hope you can answer this question I have, my 2006 tdi has a long crank start in warm conditions and I’m hoping that replacing my fuel filter will fix that issue, thanks
@gregs_garage11 ай бұрын
Yea start there it needs to be replaced regardless. Could be glow plugs also. Change both.

Soon I will buy a golf tdi with this engine and your videos are very useful to me !!! Every how many kms should this filter be changed? Greetings from Argentina!

I think every 30-40,000 kms is when I do it. They do get clogged over time.

What if you don’t fill the filter with diesel can you prime it and will it pull fuel? Or will you put air in the system?
@gregs_garage4 ай бұрын
It will take a while. They don’t suck fuel and air very well.

Hi! What will happen if the yellow and black lines switch places on the diesel filter? (They are put correctly on the pump, my mechanic just switched their places on the filter). Please reply it’s kinda urgent..

it may work. I don't know. switch them back

@@gregs_garageswitched em back but now i have air in the lines.. i can see air bubbles in the yellow line.. i also did loosen the injectors to bring the air out.. but it’s still having air in it.. please reply what to do?
@gregs_garage11 ай бұрын
@@mallikarjunreddy4974 yeah I often see air in the lines also. I think if it runs just run it! the air is minimal or it may eventually move out. Not that critical.

I always fill the new filter with Diesel Purge to give it a little cleaning with the filter change.
@gregs_garage7 ай бұрын
Yes I do that too. injectors get a quick blast then most of it goes back to the tank to continue to clean later
@geir81482 жыл бұрын
Prime that pls
@jonathanfoster65025 ай бұрын
Lol, at the people busting on you for priming the filter with old fuel... it would be a pretty odd design for that fuel not to get run back through the filter anyway. And even if it does... these cars run long enough a little dirt in the fuel won't be what takes it off the road. I have to redo my fuel filter. I think it's been over 35k miles. She's at 379k.
@gregs_garage5 ай бұрын
the fuel in the old filter isn't dirty anyway. The filter may be getting plugged over time but it isn't "dirty". It's a clean sealed fuel tank.
@curpassamuelalin67513 ай бұрын
Filtrul trebuia sa fie umplut cu diesel inainte de a-l monta, nu cand sunt yoate furtunele montate. Si nu era greu sa pui diesel curat, dintr-un flacon. Nu e mai bine sa introduci diesel prin teava de input?
@gregs_garage3 ай бұрын
You need to let the air out somewhere

Wrong.dont put the diesel from the old filter in the new filter. Dirty diesel you put in there

the diesel is not dirty.

He was pouring it from the clean side of the filter, so honestly probably cleaner than from a fuel can.

do not bother, or fill some moly diesel purge in it, otherwise pull fuel through filter to the outlet pipe with a mighty vac tool

Ive done it twice and the first time I didn’t even think about. And i noticed air bubbles passing through that transparent hose, then second time Fuel filter change i did fill it up with fuel this time, and still see bubbles, did it messed it Up?
@gregs_garage25 күн бұрын
There’s always some bubbles. As long as it runs you are fine
@junkemails505026 күн бұрын
Doesn’t it needs have bleed the air first before start it? Like prime the fuel filter?
@gregs_garage23 күн бұрын
no just fill the filter is enough. A little air will get bled out as it runs.
