I show how easy it is to disassemble and reassemble the Trigger Guard Assembly so it can be cleaned and lubricated.

Thank God...after 20 or so other videos, I finally found one that gives me the confidence to dive in and do what I plan when my GP100 arrives. Very articulate! Thanks for taking the time to clearly help us all.

This is so far the best video I ever seen on how to disassemble/reassemble the trigger guard for Ruger double action revolver. Would love to see a detailed disassemble/reassemble video for Ruger 22/45 pistol. Thank you .

Wow. The trigger assembly is far more complicated than I expected. Thanks.

@Levergun4570sbl I can break down all my rifles and shotguns without a problem. Even my S&W Revolvers - take the sideplate off, and I can pull apart all the internals without an issue. The trigger group on the GP series revolvers just intimidated me a little bit, because I was so used to breaking down my old model Redhawk, I wasn't entirely sure what was different. Thanks again.

@DTesch357 Yes. Although if you notice that when you pull the trigger slightly, the cylinder latch will move. If you are not careful and continually pull the trigger slightly. The cylinder latch will begin to slide off its post. Then you will most likely be looking for its plunger. Or if you pull the trigger enough to actuate the cylinder latch the same result could happen. That is why I have my finger on the cylinder latch when I pull the trigger.

@DTesch357 I’m glad it helped. Based on what you found. I think you can see the necessity for gun owners to be able to completely disassemble their guns for a thorough cleaning every so often.

@soulis1000 Thanks for asking. The GP100 is a sweet gun. It looks and feels good in your hand. You can’t go wrong. The only question is will the 357 mag be able the handle what you intend to use it for? Personal/home protection, no problem. Hunting side arm/outdoor protection? I like them a little bigger. If you got more questions just ask.

Ahhhh. Your way of re-assembly is much easier than the way I was doing it. Thanks for revealing your technique. Several months ago I took apart one of my GP100s that I purchased new in the box online. The trigger pull was less than desirable so I took the trigger assembly apart to investigate. To my horror I found a RUSTY trigger link plunger and somewhat rusty spring to said plunger (both items were coated in an oily rusty fluid of some type) . I cleaned them, oiled them and re-assembled it. Works like a champ now. How in the world did Ruger send out a revolver with a rusty trigger link plunger?
@TheRealOLEMITE12 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a Redhawk to check, but I did watch the disassembly video on Ruger’s website and checked the exploded view. Based on what I seen. It looks like you can start disassembling with the transfer bar and go from there. Take your time. Everything should be straight forward. I hope this helps.

@Levergun4570sbl Well, I stripped my GP100's trigger guard down to the last pin tonight - your video made it a piece of cake. I had a decent idea of what to do before, but it was nice being able to see where I need to be ready to catch a spring and a plunger. On a side note, holy crap does it get dirty and sludgy in there.

When you have the trigger assembly removed, is it safe to assume the only piece you need to worry about falling free when pulling the trigger is the transfer bar?

The design is so simple it's remarkable. Have you done any work on the trigger?? Like replacing the springs with lighter ones & smoothing on the burs and machine marks so as to lighten & smooth the trigger?? I've done this on my SP101 & my GP100. It makes all the difference in the world. Thanks. JAMES.
@TheRealOLEMITE7 жыл бұрын
Buzz Clark Yes I have... I got the single action trigger pull down to 3.1 pounds, and the double action is very smooth and has a consistent feel. I used a Wolff 10lb trigger spring and the factory hammer spring to insure a positive primer ignition,... and some stone work and deburring.

Excellent video. What work mat are you using? Is the surface grippy/non-slip?
@TheRealOLEMITE6 жыл бұрын
Cam C it's rubber with a slight texture and cleans up well from Brownells. This is the small size, they have a large which I have as well. It's the best mat that I have bought. www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/general-gunsmith-tools/bench-mats/assembly-disassembly-mat-prod6749.aspx

+toddy2519 I've owned many redhawks and I've never seen anything like this. I bought this gun brand new on Friday and haven't even got to fire it yet. I wonder if yours is in the same serial number range as mine... 503.84xxx. Also, was your sight adjusted from the factory as far as it could possibly go to left for windage? None of my other Rugers have come out of the box. They have all been set almost dead center with only a click or two left or right needed at the range to be dead on. The barrel isn't canted and it's perfectly torqued to dead center. This model confuses me... 😁
@toddy25198 жыл бұрын
Mine is 503-780xx My plunger is stuck so tight that when I tried to turn it with vise grips the stud sheared off!!!! I spoke with a tech-rep.,.Rob B, at Rugers NH plant and he was very surprised to hear of this problem. You might want to call Rugers in NH and ask to speak to Rob. They will give you a song and dance about how they don't like taking techs away from their work but you should insist on talking to him. Mention that you spoke to me (Henry) and relay you are having the same problem I have. They sent me a return FedEx label to send mine in. I didn't check the sights..all I was concerned about was getting it apart to do it's first cleaning. I also mentioned to Rob that he should check the crane-frame gap because on mine it looks excessive. Keep me posted on your gun...okay?

I have ordered parts that were the right part number, but the wrong part was in the bag. If you send me some clear photos of the parts next to a ruler for size reference, I can compare them to mine. Where did you order them from? Are they the same diameter as the cylinder latch spring and plunger? olemite@gmail.com
