This chemistry video tutorial explains how to draw lewis structures of molecules and the lewis dot diagram of polyatomic ions. It shows you how to calculate the formal charge, how to draw the resonance form of the lewis structure and how to determine the hybridization of the central atom. It also discusses molecular geometry / vsepr and the bond angles that are found in common molecules as well as if the molecule is polar or nonpolar. This video contains plenty of formulas, notes, examples, and practice problems that will help you on your next worksheet assignment or upcoming quiz.

Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for a lengthy Introduction into the Lewis Structure, Formal Charge, Molecular Geometry, Resonance, Polar and Nonpolar Molecules in AP/General Chemistry. The massive amount of practice problems/examples increases my visualization and understanding, of different areas/topics in Modern Chemistry. The only topic that I have some issue with is how to determine the hybridization of the central atom. This is an error free video/lecture on KZfaq TV with the Organic Chemistry Tutor.

Thanks a lot for your videos. Every time any new chapter in my class starts, I always see your video first and then I attend my professor's class. In that way it becomes very easier for me to understand the concept. You make everything seem easier as professor talks about this concept in a hard way. At the middle of the semester I just attended professor's lecture and I didn't understand anything. LITERALLY NOTHING. I was like WHAT THE HELL IS HE TALKING ABOUT. I failed the exam. From then I started watching your videos first and then attended class, so from then I have been getting A's on my exams. you are THE BEST

These videos are extremely helpful. The one thing I dont understand though is how does Oxygen have three lone pairs (or 6 dots) when its has bonded to something with a single bond instead of 2 lone pairs and one single electron (5 dots). But when it has a double bond with something it has 2 left over lone pairs (4 dots). I know I am probably missing something, so if anyone could enlighten me that would be great. :D

Modern state of the art lectures, soo impressed Professor! 35:25- why the two polar Os got opposite charges despite being totally symmetrical? As drawn, CO2 has a net positive charge while being non-polar? 43:18- irregularity: since N has zero formal charges, NH3 is only partially polar as you can't put a + on it like NH4+, right?
