It's a hybrid. A traditional auto trans would kill the gas mileage, making it a crappy hybrid. It doesn't even have a traditional CVT. It's an e-CVT. If you want a car that sounds sporty, don't buy a hybrid. Get a Mazda 3 or Subaru WRX or something like that if you want a sporty sounding and performing 5-door hatch.

it isn't a sports car, it is a hybrid with a sport package. EX: LFA is a purpose built sports car, NSX ... where a CR-Z was a hybrid trying to be sporty (and steal nostalgia, poorly). Full throttle or not, that is not what the car is about; but it is informative to normal people who want to get an idea on how it does pulling out into 55 mph traffic, interstate on ramp merging. This car still runs circles around your 90s geo metro; but you probably get similar mileage at least in that junker.

Buy used. I got a 2012 with 18k miles for $22k, and with gas savings and minimal maintenance and repairs compared to most other similar vehicles, it's more like paying $18k over the course of the loan. It's all savings after it's paid off. And I get to roll up in a Lexus everywhere I go.
