Hybrids are typically expensive. Was Lexus successful in combining sporty AND luxurious traits in the 2015 CT 200h hybrid, its least expensive vehicle? Base M.S.R.P. - $32,050.

UK owner, had one of these and it has a very nice interior, steering felt sharp and the ride was indeed comfortable but if you push it, and I mean at all, like setting off from junction or overtaking the engine screams at you and forget living anywhere with hills because that's what you will hear all day. If you live on the geographical equivalent of a pool table where the speed limit is 40mph, it will suit you just fine...

Interesting that he commented on braking. We've driven Toyota/Lexus hybrids for over 15 years and find the braking system amazing. It uses regenerative braking unless you demand heavy braking and also transfers from regenerative to disk braking as you glide to a stop. The transfer is almost imperceptible, which we find impressive.

My parents have a 2011 Prius that I've driven a few times, and I recently test drove a 2012 CT 200h, and to me it felt way better than a Prius, even though they're essentially the same type of car. Lots of similarities, but way different. I've also driven a 2014 LS 460 and I gotta say, besides the obviously big difference in ride smoothness, the CT 200h is extremely similar to even the high end Lexus models. And I love that. So I think I'm gonna get one. Subscribed by the way! Great video.

+Brad Doan Thank you very much for your support, Brad Doan. We truly appreciate it! As you saw in the video, we were rather impressed by the driving characteristics of the CT and while the powertrain may have some similarities with the Prius, the suspension couldn't be any more different, which is why it drives so differently. In case you haven't seen it yet, Chris did a review of the 2013 Lexus LS 460 F SPORT a number of years ago. (We think it was only the 3rd official review AutoAcademics ever did. 3:16 that's a quality door sound. Also I hear everybody talk about the CVT drone when you accelerate, is it really that bad? I have a diesel Audi and when I accelerate hard it sounds like a tractor so is that any better? Anyway great review thumbs up from me.
@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, those CT 200s do have good door seals, Adam Perkins. While many diesels do sound like tractors under load, the drone from a CVT is different because it never shifts gears. Typically, it sounds like you're running the 4-cylinder engine too hard at a steady 4,000 rpm without ever shifting. Thankfully, many manufacturers are programming artificial shift points in their CVTs to appease those of us who don't care for it. We appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic car, I've got the F Sport late 2015 model, amazing car, zero road tax here in the UK, £280 per year insurance. WOW. 50mpg all day long, up to 60 on a run at a steady 60-65mph. I've also got the Yaris Hybrid which is fantastic, had Toyota for 16 years, all faultless & IF there is any problem you can rely on Lexus/Toyota to put it right ( unlike other manufacturers ), I think I can comment like this working on cars for the last 30 years, 90% of cars are terrible now, European & mainly German cars are doggy do, terrible unreliable high maintenance expensive cars to run. NO thanks I'll stick with Japanese in Toyota & Lexus. Good video guys.

I notice you had a baby car seat in the back , but didn't mention it. We are currently in the market for a hatchback commuter car , that can safely and easily transport a young child. We test drove the ct200h today and for the most part were happy with it. Although , in Sport mode , I expected more power than it gave us. What are your thoughts about this car being a daily driver for a Mom and her baby?
@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, Travels & Chases. Yes, Chris' (our presenter) kids are still in car/booster seats so you'll see them in the videos from time to time. That front facing seat worked fine in the back of the CT 200h. We wouldn't call it spacious, since the seat did have to be moved slightly closer than an average-sized front passenger might like, but it wasn't terrible. Depending upon the size of your car seat, the contour of the rear seats might require a little adjustment during installation and Chris did have to remove the headrest, too, but it wasn't out of the ordinary what for what we've done with other test vehicles. So with all that being said, the car worked fine with the car seats, but if you're looking for something with more power, this is still a traditional hybrid powertrain that focuses on fuel efficiency over all else. The CT 200h handles decently, but the Sport button primarily keeps the car from going into electric mode only. Overall, it would be a fine car for Mom and her baby, so long as she doesn't like to engage in stoplight to stoplight drag races. We appreciate your comments and we hope we were able to help. Thanks for watching!

I've commented on this video before saying that I want this car, and I just got it almost a month ago. I got the 2014 ct200h fsport, and I love it, but there are some downsides to it. The one thing I don't like the most is how loud it is when going uphill. It's really loud and kind of awkward when someone's sitting in your car and the only sound is your car trying to chug up the hill. I also do not like the ports for the USB and cigarette plug. The little door on it is awkward especially if you want to use the cigarette plug because it has to stay open. I personally don't like it because it makes the console look messy and unorganized. There's also only one cigarette plug, which sucks because I wanted to install a dash cam but having the port door open all the time will bug me. I do love driving this car, though. It's so beautiful inside and out (especially with the fsport grille)

Looks like a nice car. Appears to me to be a repackaged Prius where the focus on economy has been shifted to luxury and sporty feel for a chunk more money. I just bought a used Prius, and have a 98 ES300. The Prius is not a Lexus but it doubles the mpg. If One were to compare the tire width of a Prius to the CT 200H, there is a huge difference.

Yeah. While both are hybrids, this is a different market than the Prius, Daniel Rose. Although, the newer versions of the Prius are definitely taking steps in the right direction. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNZ_hq12mNm2f40.html Thank you for your comments and for watching!

This would be a good car to replace my parents aging Lexus ES 300. They don’t care about how fast it goes , how it handles , or how quick it gets to 60( practically takes forever), so this would be a good fit for them... because they aren’t car enthusiasts.

We've expressed our lack of affection toward the CVT transmission many times in other videos, Eddie Da Silva, so I guess Chris figured he'd give it a rest in this review. As was mentioned, the engine droned under power. Besides that, the transmission performed very similar to other CVTs on the market today, i.e. - good for fuel economy, but not much else in our opinion. Hope this helps. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching, too!

@christopherlawrence2123 3 жыл бұрын
Just off the top of our heads (i.e. - no hard data to refer to), we think this CT 200h might offer better piece of mind due to the Lexus brand's reliability record, Jeffrey van der Post. We haven't driven an A3 e-tron yet, but we do know that Audis drive very well, in general, so we'd expect nothing different from the e-tron. That's difficult to say, Mikael Verstegen. Being a hybrid, we'd be curious how well the battery is maintaining its charge. If that can be checked out and verified that it's in good working condition then the rest would be usual pre-owned car stuff -- making sure mechanical/electrical bits are in good order and that the price is competitive with similar cars in your area. Sorry we can't help more, but thanks for watching!
@frog-spit-182
@frog-spit-182 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be concerned about the battery as much as the egr system getting clogged at that mileage (pretty much the only problem with these cars). cost about 1k to swap out the parts. If you don't you risk blowing the head gasket.

I think only F Sport version has those lateral dampers mentioned at the end. Or is US version different?
@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 8 жыл бұрын
+zimmerir The Yamaha lateral performance dampers are standard on all CTs, zimmerir. As far as we are aware, while the F SPORT package does add a specifically tuned suspension, most of the other parts are strictly aesthetic in nature, such as the steering wheel, badges, and rear spoiler. We guess the aerodynamic cutouts might provide some performance gains, as well. However, we can not confirm that. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching!

I test drove a luxury version a year back and was left a little cold; it lacks power & finesse. However after reading through the reviews I missed out on the F-sport version which I initially assumed to be a appearance package that it included a much better suspension setup. I liked the efficiency of the Prius powertrain but that car just looks terrible & drives like an appliance. Later down the road I want to give the F-sport version a spin; if it handles well enough I can let the lack of power (and amazing fuel efficiency) slide.
@AutoAcademics
@AutoAcademics 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, first and foremost you have to realize that this is a hybrid, not a performance car with a hybrid powertrain. Once that is understood, you can appreciate the fact that it drives better than many garden-variety hybrids do. It's not going to be any faster, but good handling traits can make a big difference in the driving enjoyment of a car. An example of this can be found in our review of the 2016 Jetta 1.8T SEL: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7OkgdNjpqy5p3U.html. Check it out if you get the chance. Thanks for sharing and for watching, too!
