What's better? An old fashioned naturally aspirated 5.0L 2UR-GSE found inside the Lexus ISF, or a modern, twin-turbocharged 4.4L S63B44T1 found in the BMW M5 F10? Let's see.

Useable power…I was trying to explain to a 14yo WHY useable power is much more fun than extreme horsepower. It was a bit lost in them really. I gotta say I agree with you that 300kw/400ish hp is the upper limit on power as long as the car is built around that. A 400hp Corolla would be far scarier than the M5. It’s just too much on the road. Loved the vid, love the IS F.

This is why my 400rwkw ISF is my daily, and my 200bhp Altezza is my weekend thrasher xD 200hp being pushed to the limit is a truly fun and rewarding experience. Raw power is not fun unless you're on a smooth open road (which here in NZ doesn't really exist). Typically people who want more power want it because they can't drive fast without it.

I had a W204 C63 for 4 years and did 145km in it, now with an F13 M6 I've done 115km in it over 4.5 years (lockdown, different job has meant less kms) I've been running 305/30r20 PS4S tyres on mine from about 20km so for most of its like and on the original 295/30r20 PZeros it drive like in your video. The PS4S make a huge difference and it actually gets grip in 2nd in a straight line now! The F13 M6 is basically the same car but with a 120mm shorter wheelbase, carbon roof and of course is a bit lighter. My specific one is a Competition Package which that F10 M5 doesn't have which gives sharper steering and beefier antiroll bars and springs. Overall it does drive similar to an F10 but a bit more aggressive while looking even better in my mind! Taihape to Napier or Gisborne to Opotiki are utterly brilliant in it :)

Nice, but frankly an m6 comp with more power and less weight sounds like even more death to me. Maybe I'm just not mature enough to drive a car like that. Imo a car is best enjoyed at full chat. As a owner of a F10 M5 6-speed (only offered in the US) the car does try to kill you quite often but only if you turn off all the driver aids. Leave MDM on with traction control off and it's a very well balanced and pretty predictable car.
@KiwiCarLife
@KiwiCarLife Жыл бұрын
I was in mdm and I certainly wouldn't call it predictable haha you saw how it just kicked out with no warning under acceleration and white turning. In the us though I can understand. Your roads are bigger and safer for traveling at speed where the m5 is at its best

@mckenziebrowne3874 Жыл бұрын
Also an F10 M5 owner. Mine is with the DCT. As odd as it may sound you get used to it. As Ean G basically said, it is more usable as long as MDM is on. If you are really not comfortable you can leave traction control on. I generally drive it in MDM. It is very rare that I turn the nannies all the way off. One thing that you briefly touched on is how it behaves in the default settings, it's kind of tame...almost to the point I would let my grandmother drive it. With everything turned up it scared my buddy that owned a Cayman S at the time. One thing that isn't captured is that there are about 480 combinations of settings that are possible with this car. That means you can set it up to be in the middle as far as how rapid it can be off the line at it's craziest or how tame it can be at it's softest. I think it's a great car but with the cost to maintain and how rapid it can be it is not for everyone.

The car you choose to purchase is always going to be depending on the kind of driving you like to do and if you don’t know enough about cars and if you are not a confident driver or enthusiast, then you should go with the slower car with the lower amount of horsepower. Any car putting down over 450 hp Should have rubber tires that will grab the road better for the least amount of slippage. It’s very one-sided to down a car for its performance and horsepower if you’re not experienced enough to drive it. the reliability of that particular car granted isn’t great and the newer models are improved and a lot more reliable for sure, but there are definitely Bmw enthusiast that know how to work on their own vehicles and don’t have a problem doing their own maintenance and engine repairs. If you are financially stable, were they comfortable income and love luxury and horsepower BMW is the way to go. If you don’t care about horsepower and you just want something reliable and nice with luxury, then get Toyota or Lexus. And if you like BMW and Lexus/which is made by Toyota. then get the new Toyota supra that is very fast very reliable and very tunable that has the BMW B 58 engine because Toyota partnered with BMW to use their engines and transmissions and supporting components to build their new supra. The video was OK, but to down a car that is built for luxury and high performance as the M model being the premium model of that car shows lack of knowledge and experience. You shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car that you do not have the experience to drive and if you don’t want the car to spin all over the road make sure that it has the proper tires on it and make sure you get the one you can afford to keep, just know that car wasn’t meant for you 👌🏼

I feel like this video is a good reply to my comment about the ISF not being as complete as most other "super-saloons". For me personally i love a car that wants to kill you for the road and that most often means it needs a turbo. However forced induction also most often mean reliability issues and high maintenance costs. If reliability wasn't a factor i'd get an AMG or M-car any day, the Lexus just feels asleep in comparison.
@KiwiCarLife
@KiwiCarLife Жыл бұрын
See I would argue the opposite, that the m5 makes too much power for the chassis and tyres to be able to handle. A car shouldn't be able to wheelspin to redline through first, second and third gear from the factory imo. That's just ridiculous. Whereas the Lexus has been set up to handle the amount of power that it has.

Certainly not what I've heard and seen. They are known for rod bearings, turbos, high pressure fuel pump, oil pump, timing chain... So many things. Plenty of people run them past 150,000 miles. I’ve done 12k on mine (now at 72k miles) and maintenance isn’t that bad. Parts are expensive when you need them, but keep them stock, use decent fuel and they’ll be trouble free. Although I believe LCI is slightly better in that regard.

The facelift ISF MY09/10 with the blue mark on the steering wheel have a real mechanical LSD - the one you had should have an electromechanical LSD / ie use the brakes to force power to the wheel - The BMW is just not reliable, Like most of them, the Lexus far more usable as a daily.

The M5 is a disaster of a car! The engine was so bad a class action lawsuit happened over it. It would consume 14x More oil than what was acceptable, had bad valve seals, all the rubber would turn to hard plastic after 50,000km. Do I need to go on?
