Great video! I own a european Legend KB1 and it’s a wonderful car, I’d add the driving feels as if it was lighter than it actually is and the SH-AWD makes the handling great and it turns so well. Plus it has a SNOW button that blocks differentials and helps you in very bad road conditions. A downside is the fuel economy which is not great.

I've always liked the 5 cylinder Mk4 Mondeos. They are bloody rare in NZ though. As for the engine it can be woken up considerably and a good exhaust system goes along way on a 5 cylinder. I've owned a mk4 Mondeo but it was just a boring 4 banger with an auto. Exceptionally comfy car, safe and great factory sound system. It was the rubbish auto gearboxes Ford fitted to the later mk4s and on that killed the Mondeo name. But if you get one with the standard 6 speed auto or manual their actually sweet cars.

Had it for nearly 7years now. But still think it is too hard for daily. Even with ps4s which is way better than the uk oem pss tyres. The engine sound is a fake one by the way. It comes off speakers according to the rpm.

Very professional video from a fellow Kiwi. Had my 91 for 15 years and would love to drive in NZ but lapping Suzuka every year keeps me smiling. The VTEC is not noticeable until you change the headers to the later style as the OEM cast iron rear log manifold robs gas flow a lot.

BMW made a 4.1 gearing set that was going to be standard for the e46 m3 but it was too rowdy and they stuck with the 3.62 gearing. It is now a popular modification and since the fact the part is OEM is a plus. I have it in my e46 m3 and it completely transforms the car where 1st is almost useless and you have to shift into 3rd to hit 100kph. This new gearing in combination with a CSL airbox and a tune makes the acceleration and torque noticeably stronger than my dyno tuned and decatted e92 m3. I highly recommend it as it makes the car keep up with any brand new hot hatch or sports car, not that it matters anyway.

well you'd need to spend 10k on the 130i to be on par/better (LSD, shorter ratio, coilovers, spherical bushes/arms etc) but that comes ootb with M3 and the S54 is objectively better engine than the N52

Lol nah I drive a Honda ZRV turbo with CVT. Don't get me wrong I love the feel of manuals, but to be honest I think they are overrated these days. In traffic situations they are horrible with my ZRV I can zip through traffic with the instant torque and the power just feels more utilized. Now in terms of racing, everyone thinks they are a racer with a manual gearbox but truth is in 2024 it's actually slower. So it's a weird thing to cling on to in my opinion. @@olihaub

@@ytyndale3643 I think most can agree that for daily driving around town etc automatic makes sense. This channel is more about performance driving though ... not sure a CVT crossover was really the focus of a discussion about manual vs automatic!

@@SBBUK Yeah but the discussion now has shifted (no pun intended) to the point where it is a performance discussion. Where SUVs have become the new hot hatches and manual transmissions are being outperformed. How comfortable were the shifts putting it around town with the SMG though. I know for example the DSG's are really quick going flat-out, but not so great around town.
@KiwiCarLife3 күн бұрын
I’d disagree any VAG group or BMW DCT is perfectly smooth around town. Honestly the SMG was smoother than most people can drive manual themselves. People like to hate but you can see why a lot of people bought it back in 2000 because at the time most normal autos were horrendous
@The_Noticer.3 күн бұрын
@@KiwiCarLife I'm not hating, was a genuine question. Honestly, if the Civic i bought came with a decent auto, i'd have gone that route probably too. But CVT is just not great. :)
@SBBUK3 күн бұрын
I think its one of those situations where most hate it because of the perception that it's bad, rather than having driven one and really deciding for themselves that it's bad. A bit like the Honda Civic FN2, too many listened to Jeremy Clarkson :)

You can still blow up your engine money shifting rev limit or not. The rev limit only prevents fuelling above a certain point, the car won't deny you the ability to put it in a lower gear and spin at too high a speed.
