Bruins fan here. No shame to lose in such a close series to the back to back Stanley Cup champions, but I know that it must still hurt. On another note, I think the reason you get huge amounts of fans from other fan bases is that real fans appreciate the passion you show for the game, even though it’s not for their team.

It took me 2 days to bring myself to be able to watch this LFR, to feel that I could handle it. I felt everything you said Steve … I FELT it. Thank you for doing what you do and doing it so well.

“The most heartbroken fans right now are the luckiest ones, because you’re actually doing it right.” Bolts fan here. That has to be one of my favorite quotes I have heard when talking about sports fandom. I remember the feeling I had from 2011 ECF game 7 against Boston, the feeling I had from 2014 round 1 against Montreal, the feeling from 2015 SCF against Chicago, the feeling from the stands in 2018 game 7 against Washington, and the feeling from 2019 getting swept in the first round against Columbus. It really hurts but it makes the eventual triumph that much better. As a Bolts fan, I see a lot of similarities between the 2014/2015 Bolts team and this Leafs team. I think they need a bit more leadership in the locker room. Some leadership with playoff experience. Someone outside of Muzzin with a Stanley Cup ring could be good. Maybe take a shot at getting a player like Ondrej Palat in the off-season, just as an example. This is definitely tough. I’m truly not sure what else could be done. The team looks great. I don’t think moving on from Keefe or Dubas is the answer imo though.

As a blue jackets fan, I can’t help but feel we are directly responsible for this. Tampa has won 9 straight playoff series since getting swept in ‘19.

Growing up watch the Isles get eliminated from playoffs and in most cases just missing them completely. Leafs looked great, was cheering for them this series, hope they keep make it back next year.

Being a Jets fan, I would ordinarily be thrilled with yet another Leafs loss....this one actually hurts though. It's such a torturous thing to watch a truly great team fail in the most inopportune time, especially after all the previous failures. It feels like watching the early 90's Buffalo Bills football team collapsing year after year in the Super Bowl....a great team that mentally doesn't believe they can actually win when it counts. I don't know where Toronto goes from here, but I truly feel for the fanbase and for the players who have missed out on everything they dreamed they could bring to a desperate city. Steve, you're a national treasure, so please keep bringing your passion for all of us to see. It's a rare trait in so many sport fans these days! I thank you for that.

As a 64 year-old Toronto fan, who was AT the last Stanley Cup game the Leafs won (I was 9), now living in Vancouver, I would like to THANK YOU, Steve, for your great LFR videos. You have become a dear friend I look forward to listening to after each game. You see, in Vancouver, hating/dissing/mocking the Leafs is not only a blood-sport, it is a credit course at UBC and in most high schools. The only fellow Leaf fans I can celebrate/commiserate with are fellow actors who, like me, came out west for TV and Film work. And we have to be furtive about it. So when I put on your LFR videos, it’s like having a great Leaf brother to chat with. So wonderful. Throughout this season, and last, I was recuperating from a below-the-knee amputation. Learning to walk again. And the Leafs got me through many a long night in hospital, as did your LFRs. And this season, though I was walking and functioning again, the Leafs gave me SO MUCH pleasure and so many good feelings. So much entertainment. As did you. As crushed as I am with this loss, I think our boys left it all on the ice, and they did themselves proud. Thanks to them and you for a great year. One last shout out- I literally lost my tea when you wore the referee jersey in your manic jersey collage and shouted “When did I get a Tampa jersey?” Absolutely SPOT ON, Steve. The best.

I came here on April 25th, 2023 after the leafs comeback from a 4 to 1 deficit to win 5 to 4 in overtime over Tampa Bay to take a 3 to 1 series lead. It's weird being a leafs fan, I come here to prepare myself for Tampa to win 3 games straight. But oh oh oh wouldn't it be sooo sweet to just win a series clinching game....sigh...please leafs please

As a non-Leafs hockey fan, I gotta say I can’t believe this wasn’t the year they moved on. Not a single player in the series for the Leafs had a bad series, not to mention the final games were so tight. I have watched many of the LFRs over the season just because I like your commentary, and man I wish I could see a series win video.

Not a Leafs fan but damn, over the last 3 years of watching this channel on the regular (not just the losses I promise) I'm really beginning to feel like one. Wild fan here (so know a little about devastating playoff runs) genuinely feel bad for the leafs this time. In past years it was fun to laugh at the leafs choking but this year it looked like a great team losing one game to another great team. So much respect for the leafs and don't call this a choke at all, Tampa is just Tampa sometimes

Steve, first came to this channel to see a hilarious rant about the Zamboni driver. Over time I legitimately became a fan of you, your other podcasts. Then I developed a soft spot for the Leafs because of your honest, raw, and relatable fan takes. Thank you for being so open. You represent a lot of die hard fans across all sports and fandoms.

I feel for you. As a lifelong MN sports fan heartbreak is a constant. Watching you and your team, it really did feel different. In watching your previous seasons of LFR (as we discovered you this year and can make time to binge watch important things) I was really worried that the Leafs broke you beyond repair and you wouldn't be back, or at least not fully invested into the team. You may believe in the Leafs (thankfully my home team is in a different conference so I can back the leafs most of the time.) It was an honor to watch the games with you and experience the highs and lows of hockey. Thank you Steve.

Habs fan here. Loved watching Leafs games with you Steve. You’re passionate, and I shared your love for the Leafs, for two weeks. I sincerely wanted the Leafs to clear the Lightning out, but as you said, we’ve got to applaud this Tampa phenomenon. Especially, the magic tricks their GM pulls out to always stay right on the line of the cap max, and keep its best assets under his roof. It came so close. I believe 2022-23 is going to be THE year IF, only IF, they don’t give up yet on the amazing team Toronto as, already. Tampa was simply, slightly better.

I used to love watching the leafs lose but this year I was rooting for them. It felt like the team was actually giving it them all and all of the big players were stepping up. They really could’ve had this one.

Love and appreciate everything you do, Steve. I became a Leaf fan in Saskatchewan when I was six and my godfather, Bert Olmstead, played for the Leafs during the Dynasty that peaked in 67. Moved to Toronto in time for 40 years of losing while never giving up hope. I got to meet many of my childhood heroes waiting to take a piss in one of the troughs that used to be called washrooms in MLG. I bought a house from one of the Leaf wives. And near the end of my time in your city, Doug Gilmour's dog used to curl up on my couch while he was at practice. Now I'm on the West coast where wearing a Leaf cap is an invitation for abuse. Sportsnet can't pay you enough for what you give those of us who will never stop believing. Thank you for the bottom of my heart. We're all in a fog right now. But the next Dynasty is in place and next year will be ours.

I was rooting so hard for you guys last night. 13 year long Panthers fan who's gone through much of the same pain as your team, and it was such a rush after we beat the Caps Friday night. I desperately wanted the same thing for you guys, and as well for an absolute epic series between the two biggest offensive powerhouses in the Eastern Conference. Battle of Florida will be great, but man, that could have been magical. PLEASE don't break this group up. I know salary cap is going to force at least a couple guys out, but JFC, this core, both the first and second lines (when Nylander remembers to try) are lethal. I want to see you guys go a revenge tour of sheer rage next year. Beat the fuck out of everyone (except my Panthers, ofc), come out looking for blood, and run that train all the way into the playoffs. This team has it. Against several other opponents, the Leafs would have shredded them to pieces. Boston would have had no chance, Caps would have won no more than two games. Firing Dubas would be just stupid. He believed wholeheartedly in this core and he was proven right. They lost in seven (five of which were absolute dogfights) games to the 2 time, current SC champions. How the hell can you blow the team up after that? This wasn't choking against Montreal. This was fighting for their lives against the best team in the league, looking to threepeat. I've got nothing but respect for the team the Leafs put together, and I'll be rooting hard for you next year.

I'm a Kings fan just getting back into hockey (slightly because my cousin is a Ducks fan but hey), and he recommended I watched this channel since I'm on KZfaq often. LFR15 was my first season watching Steve talk about the Leafs. It made me invested in a group of guys, a team I never knee had such a deep, storied, and tragic backstory of pain. And this year was another notch on the belt. This was an experience for someone who isn't as familiar with hockey, but it was entertaining and Steve made me hang on every laugh, every fit of anger and shock and despair. I'm amazed.

I’m not a Leafs fan but I was pulling for you guys. The talent is there, the fan base is there, and it’s good for the NHL when the Leafs are competitive. It’s been way too long, and I hope they win a Stanley Cup this generation with Matthews leading the way.

I have been watching for years and years now. I couldn't care less about the Maple Leafs. I'm a Blues fan. But a buddy of mine said 'hey, you gotta watch this LFR guy, he's great!' And I've been watching ever since. Every fan can see themselves in you, Steve, and anyone with heart is gonna love you. I don't watch because I give a darn about the Leafs one way or the other. I watch because you do so much good for people. You entertain people who are down, you make such great use of your access to a fan base by helping Easter Seals. You're just a good guy. I watch LFR because I root for Steve 'Dangle', and I look forward to one day there being a LFR about the time the Leafs win the Cup, because I want to see someone who deserves it, their LFR hero, feel how happy it makes him.

What a run! I cheered for the Leafs this year right along with you, and through most of the games of this series, and once again you were so nice about giving Tampa Bay their due. Steve you're totally missing the point on the interference call- it was a clear penalty that put Tavares in the meatiest of scoring positions. Those have to be called even in the playoffs. It wasn't interference 200 feet from the net- it lead directly to a prime scoring opportunity. So to your question, "Which is it?" It's let the small stuff go, call the impactful stuff. That was MASSIVELY impactful.

Steve, as a Pens fan, you’re the reason I pull for the Leafs. I watch every LFR, every podcast, everything you do at Sportsnet. I do so, because as a Cubs fan, I know the highs and lows (mostly lows) of watching a team fail year in and year out. The Cubs went 70 years without making the World Series, and 108 years without winning it all. But the moment they did, every bad luck moment that occurred years and decades before melted away. I keep glued to your channel, because I want to watch the feeling you will have be the same as I did watching my team wash 108 years away. It will happen. And the last 5 or 6 first round miseries will be forgotten. Keep the hope alive, Steve.

I only come to this channel once a year, and it's to watch this video. This is the video I've been waiting to see. And did not disappoint! I'm looking forward to watching next years one again!

Caps fan here. I know exactly how you feel Steve, my dad especially. He is a fan of the capitals since they came into the league, and saw them get dominated in the 98 series against the Detroit, the many heartbreaks during the late 2000's through the 2010's until they finally won it in the 18 season, and is now in a sense reliving those days with the capitals not making it past the first round in the last couple years. Just hang in there buddy, if the capitals can do it so can the leafs

I have no regrets putting my whole heart into this group. It was a lot more fun. I still believe in this group.

Watching these game 7 LFRs... man... it makes me realize just how much this team means to me. I was a long time TML Fan and still am, (I also love the Canadiens btw) I loved Bernier, loved Reimer, loved Jake Gardener, James van Reimsdyk, and now... I love Murray, Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander... this team causes us pain but... we love them. This is a team we want to see succeed. Love ya Steve, thank you for all these LFR episodes, they tell me I'm not so insane for loving this team because we are faithful and want to see them win. Let's hope and pray that this is the year.

The last six years have been tough, but this loss almost brought me to tears. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe in this team. It’s just so hard to process at this point. I’m 21, the last time they did the 2nd round thing I was 3. But my god, I am proud of this team. They showed up, it hurts like hell but they were there. (Edit) I’m now convinced beings a leafs fan as one myself for my life. Just makes me think I’m crazy.

It’s not schadenfreude that brings other fan bases by the way, speaking as a Lightning fan. For me, you are a true hockey fan and we have no one like you in Tampa that covers and reacts to games. I’ve had to work during these games and sharing the experience with you is akin to watching with a buddy. When I’m home, I watch games with a Redwings fan often. It doesn’t matter which team you root for, it’s nice to recap a game with a fan of the sport.

Tavares gonna be 32, Muzzin 33. Campbell, Mikheyev, Lyubushkin, Giordano UFAs. Handful of RFAs. Multiple career years. Have a hard time seeing the Leafs build a better roster than the one they had this year while that doesn't mean they can't win it feels like a major missed opportunity, again.

I was genuinely hoping to see a Leafs series win last night, just to see you and the fans, who have gone through a lot, happy. As a flyers fan, I genuinely thought this year was the year the leafs were gonna do it. It really did feel different this year. I think the team finally learned after the Montreal series

I don't think it was Keefe's fault but I'd seriously look into Barry Trotz. Washington was in an identical spot when they hired him. Offensive juggernaut, star players everywhere but they couldn't win in the playoffs. Trotz got guys who ppl thought couldn't/wouldn't buy-in to buy-in & won them a cup.

That 11 game stat is something else, god damn. Only rational explanation is Vasy being clutch in clinching games and after losses, literally undefeated through 9 playoff rounds. Dude gets it done.

Coming this close really hurts, but not as much as I expected when I saw the writing on the wall when we lost game 6. I'm scared we lose the best management we've seen in ages. I'm scared we lose players who have been integral to our records breaking season. I hope the internal reaction to the loss is not one of combustion. Hang in there Steve! I was rooting for the Leafs just so you wouldn’t have to make this video! Hockey is so random, and so cruel. I can’t say I know your pain of not getting out of the first round, but as Capitals fan, I can 100% say I know the pain of watching a supremely talented team not be able to get over a hump. Until, of course, that magical 2018 run. And that’s what makes those runs so sweet. You just have no idea how the puck will bounce and sometimes, you can have everything lined up your way and have things fail to go your way. Hockey is cruel that way. But keep up the faith. I have watched my favorite team win back to back cups and the most anxious I've been was this series. It was as close to 50/50 as any they've played including the islanders. I'm sad for leafs fans this year.

Steve, you are a dedicated guy to hockey and the Leafs. This is gutting and tbh watching the whole video, I hope all is well this offseason.

This year's team deserved it and worked their ass off. I feel better than I have in years about a loss like this. With that being said, my belief was so high, this was the first LFR I had to wait to watch. The first 86 (reg season and playoffs), I watched as the first thing I did the next morning after a game. Every one! This one, I had to wait 24 hours to be able to take. They worked, battled and grinded and deserved better. Thank you for the work you do Steve! I don't know what I'm going to do with my time now.

This was my first year really cheering for the Leafs (former Thrashers fan so I basically have a handful of teams I cheer for now) and this hurts, I've followed them through you and thebpodcast for years but this was the first time I actually emotionally invested myself in them. Like you said, idk where they go from here because this team is just so good.

These videos are so important for me. They offer so much closure. Hard season. Hard fought playoffs. Can't wait to see you back next year.
