I am a 65 year old black man who has been a Skynard fan from the begining. While in prison for ten years. A lot of C O's got to know me. So when Freebird a came on my radio they knew for 9 minutes i was going to play it real loud. And do not ask me to turn it down. 😊 RIP. Ronnie, Steve. Allen. Leon. Billy

When I was in highschool (late 90s) I got in a fistfight with my best friend. She attacked me and her brother had to break it up. As soon as I got in my car and started driving, that dumb No Doubt song comes on " you used to be my best friend, I never thought this would be the end" and I had to pull over and sob.

This was their biggest song. In October 77, they had a plane crash and half the band died including their Lead Singer, Ronnie. The surviving members became the Rossington-Collins Band. I saw them on July 4th 1981 in Miami. They played Freebird as an Instrumental...and left an open Mic centerstage. Right on cue, the entire stadium sang for them...not a dry eye in the house...still gives me chills...

Interesting story my ex girlfriend granddad was the one who took them to the hospital and tried to save them. Plane crashed on his land. He still has the truck and still has some blood in the bed of it. One of the coolest things I’ve been able to see. The band honored him in 2019 at a concert in Jackson, MS

Free bird is considered one of the South's national anthems. I've listened to it since it came out but I never really got it until I was leaving my parents' grave sites on the interstate on my motorcycle. This song came on and the next thing I knew I was doing about 95 mph and just screaming dancing on my bike. It's such a powerful song.

Live version please! You have to see that guitar action! Li e at Knebworth is the best one. The camera focuses on the band and not so much in the crowd. Yes three guitars and yes it's a solo/ out to. When they played it live they played the solo sometimes up to 15 minutes. Pretty much until the drummer had to give the signal he couldn't go anymore. In the Knebworth performance lead singer has to tug on Allen Collins shoulder to get him to wrap it up on the solo

The breakthrough event for Skynyrd was when they opened for The Who on their US tour. They had exactly (!) 30 minutes, so they had to go from one song right into the next, leaving 9 minutes at the end for Freebird. Only a band as tightly rehearsed and disciplined as these boys were could make that work. And they did.

They opened for the rolling stones. One rule don't go out on the tongue. They did. Then played this song. Can you imagine trying to follow that as a headline group?

Oh, brother . . . . . WRONG VERSION . . . . . Oakland, live 1977. The only way to do Skynyrd, is live whenever possible. AC/DC, as well...

I'm so glad to see people doing reaction videos to Free Bird. I'm a boomer, so I've spent so much time listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd; especially "Free Bird". I can't even count how many times I've driven through the countryside looking for a fishing hole, listening to this song. Driving on road trips, listening to this song. I told my family, and I'm serious, "Play the live version from Atlanta Coliseum at my funeral". Lol I'm glad you love it! No matter what mood I'm in, I listen to this song and I can't help but be in an even better mood.

Hey bro, glad to see you doing this one. Ya ma, they slow walk you for a little bit. Then they rip your head off with that killer guitar session. This is one you will never forget. I distinctly remember this from the early 70's.At 16-17 years of age then. This was a game changer.

I always thought that "whoop" sound was they're fingers sliding down the neck of the guitar.

Loved original singer & the band!!! I’m Jacksonville, FL. girl for 31 yrs now. Not sure if I mentioned this to you before or your son. I went to high school with his daughter, Melody in Orange Park, FL. She is an awesome chic. Her & her mother lived 5 houses down from us on the St. John’s River. My dad actually delivered all the other band members children. They’re an amazing band & group of guys. Good 1st song choice by them. 🎸🎼

It was so fun to see your reaction! Gotta tell you, there were plenty of nights that I would sit on the floor in front of our stereo speakers and just rock out on Lynyrd Skynard for hours. Thought I'd bust an eardrum or get whiplash a few times...lol Nowadays, I can't get my fat a$$ on the floor to feel the music in my bones but I still have the volume on max and rock out. Never too old. 🎸

Watching it live was an experience one never forgets. I miss the days of wall-to-wall Southern Rock and a concert happening from all the greats every time I turned around. Thanks for keeping them alive. ❤️ You need to go down the Wet Willie and Elvin Bishop road now. 🍑🔥🤘🏼

Bud, for me music appreciation began with watching them play this live, on youtube that is, on 7-2-1977 at oakland coliseum. such young men playing like old veterans. Loved your thoughts at the end, spot on.

Thank you!!! Thank you for reacting with the respect and appreciation this song deserves. There are so many layers upon layers. Not thrilled for the last pause in the solo, but you resisted pausing during the build up. Love the double Dutch reference.
