The Bee Gees wrote "Islands in the Stream!" The story is Kenny and Barry Gibb were in the studio recording it and Kenny wasn't into it. Barry says, "We need Dolly Parton." They recorded several hits together.
@sharcrum

That's not the way I heard it. Barry said that he called in Kenny to record it because he was close to the studio and Kenny said that it needed to be done as a duet and Kenny immediately said Dolly! So they called her and she came right away!

@@sharcrum Kenny, in an interview I saw some time back, said after 4 days of working on it, he wasn't liking it. Dolly Parton was at the studio. So Barry said they needed Dolly! I bet Dolly has a different version too. Nobody's memory is perfect. At any rate, we have a wonderful song to enjoy.

She was known for wearing flashy stage outfits MY aunt for several years was her personal designer that designed and hand sewed them I met her several times at My Aunt's farm in Mid MIchigan when Dolly visited. She is truly a national treasure in every way. Also, She & Kenny were best of friends throughout life until he recently passed. They sang together off and on throughout the years. I saw one of your other vid's so decided to check out your review of Dolly & Kenny. You said you thought Dolly was a 'good person' and you're right. She has had a very long career spanning several different musical genre's, from Country, to Pop, to Rock-n-Roll. Dolly has written numerous songs which were not only big hits for her but, as you found out, one of the biggest was from Whitney Houston (I Will Always Love You). Dolly wrote the song. It made millions for her and Whitney. She is also very generous. She founded "Dolly Parton's Imagination Library", which is a book gifting program that gifts free books to children from birth to age five, within the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland. So far her foundation has gifted over 130 million books to children all over the world.

The two worked together often including a Christmas special. The last song they had done was written for them by tge same guy who wrote The Gambler and is called You Can't Make Old Friends which really had special meaning to Dolly after Kenny passed last year

These two were the greatest of friends through the the years. Their last song together was "You Can't Make Old Friends". You should listen to Kenny Rogers's cover of "Lady" by Lionel Richie. And his "The Gambler" spawned a series of Westerns and altered the way heroes were portrayed. Great reaction. Thank you!

@wnsafford1854
@wnsafford1854 3 жыл бұрын
The Bee Gee's originally wrote it in an R&B style. (*edit 1) Maurice recalled it being for Marvin Gaye, who didn't record it (some claim he turned it down, but I've found no solid source saying he ever even heard it) & Barry recalled it intended for Diana Ross. When Barry was co-producing Kenny's album, the style was reworked for Kenny, who didn't much care for it. Barry then said it needed Dolly (*edit 2) Kenny’s manager had seen her that morning & had her #. She was called & came right over (Kenny said within about an hour). Kenny said "she came marching into the room, and once she came in and started singing, the song was never the same. It took on a personality of its own.” *Edits 13Oct2020-1 to add Barry’s recollection & 2-change from Dolly being in the building to Dolly being called at home & coming right over.

Yes you should watch the movie. It stars Bert Reynolds they have great chemistry. Outfits really show off her brick house. Dolly actually wrote the song “I will always love you.” It was written when she decided to leave the Porter Wagner Show. Check out some of those old clips. Also the movie “9 to 5”. A lot of fun. She is wonderful and a treasure.

Dolly started a program for children in Tennessee called Imagination Library that sends any child signed up a book every month from birth until they start school. It’s now going nationwide and she also sends some of the children video messages on their birthdays. She also donated a million dollars to Vanderbilt University’s COVID team that helped develop the Moderna vaccine. She is truly a national treasure. You should react to her song Coat of Many Colors. She has said it’s her most autobiographical.

I was born in 1976. They performed so much together and had such great chemistry that I thought they were married. Also, they would do Christmas specials together that would air on free networks so they became a household name. She did many great movies but Smoky Mountain Christmas you can see that really sweet side of her. Then the movie Rhinestone was awesome as she had to teach Sylvestor Stallone (NY Italian cab driver) to sing country in a Honky Tonk bar (she made a bet). It's a really funny sweet story that gets bad reviews. As for Kenny Rogers, you ever have a chance to watch Six Pack, it's another great movie where he helps a bunch of orphan kids and they race cars. For music reaction though.
