Back in the 1970s Kiss was known as the loudest band in the world. Their live shows were the absolute best. By the way, the base player is Gene Simmons. He had a reality show for a while and played in a couple of movies. He is scary even without the makeup.

They are from NYC, the band was broke, critics hated them, they were hemorrhaging money, and about to quit go home and get straight jobs. A Detroit DJ started playing them and Detroit Embraced them in a HUGE way. Detroit Audiences are notoriously hard to please, so when they got the seal of approval from Detroit fans and Cream magazine loved them they just took off.

True, but for the best version EVER of DRC you MUST listen to this version from 1980 Australian Stadium Tour. First, it's always better live, the costumes here are as big and detailed as they got, but mostly bc you will NEVER be able to hear or sing it any other way than Paul does here, extending every line with some vocal gymnastics. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nK1yn7eK16eWlZc.html

Better late than never Jojo - lol - this is the opening track from the "Destroyer" album which was released in 1976. I was only 5 years old at the time, living in the small, south Georgia country town where I was born and my older brother and I heard this on the radio for the first time. I was immediately hooked and I have been a huge KISS fan ever since! My first KISS concert was "Lick It Up", their first album/tour without their signature make up (and a couple new members, namely Vinnie Vincent on guitar who replaced Ace Frehley and Eric Carr who replaced Peter Criss on the drums)... #KISSARMY

This song is not complete without the car crash at the end.. and then it segues directly into "King Of the Nighttime World"> for the full effect..

KISS are 4 New Yorkers, but Detroit is the first city that really embraced them & where they had their first slew of sold out concerts. So they wrote a song thanking Detroit.

Plus their breakthrough album KISS Alive! was recorded in Detroit's Cobo Hall. So the city is an important landmark in KISStory.

Listen to the origin off the Destroyer album. Play it back to back with the second song "King of the Night Time World". The two songs are meant to be played together.

my friend, Kiss started in 1972 with their first release on 18th February 1974, they have 20 studio albums plus 4 solo records and multiple alive records in which kiss alive 2 is 1/4 new studio songs at the time, 1977. they have compilation records with new songs or re-recordings of older songs. in total I would guess they have over 280 songs, there are at least 3 great songs on every album if not much more on some!!! I would say if I was to pick out the best 50 songs I would still be missing out on some killer tracks. This band puts most bands to shame, this band still puts on a show as good as any other that has ever been, this band has out done even themselves! (Dubai 2020 New Years as an example, Dodger stadium 1996, Brooklyn bridge, Kiss symphony!!! not to mention all of their other great shows MSG, Cobo hall, Rio de Janeiro with 200 thousand fans in the crowd) The off spin bands like Frehley's comet or Criss have spawned so much music your head would spin if you went back to take a listen. Not too many other acts can say they have done anything close to what KISS has done!

You've got to listen to the Destroyer version to get the full experience. They're from New York city. And they did this song because it was in Detroit they finally got national recognition.

This is the Mk 1 version of Kiss, with Paul Stanley on rhythm and lead guitars and lead vocal, Ace Frehley on lead guitar and backing vocals, Gene Simmons on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Peter Criss on drums and backing vocals. The song was inspired by an event an actual event, although the inspiring event happened at a concert venue and not on a highway.

Legend has it that this song was written about a real accident that happened. The kids were driving to a KISS show in detroit. As a way to honor those kids they wrote a song about it

Detroit is the first big city that Kiss embraced for the simple fact that when a football coach started playing KISS to motivate his Team,They went from losing every game, and went on to win State Championship in 1 season! Kiss has motivated me since I was 15 years old.

They're from New York State. Detroit was the first home base of their fan club, the KISS Army, after their first live album was dine there in 1975. The fans surrounded the local radio station until they promised to play their music.
