KISS, mid seventies to maybe 79 was the biggest band in the world! They were humongous. From music snobs they didn’t get any credit. You ask any rock artist from 1975 onward and they’ll tell you their impact. KISS is….I mean…they’re KISS. Nothing more needs to be said. KISS Army baby! Trust me, it’s an army. They are on their final tour. If you have a chance to see them soon, the show was spectacular!

“King of the Night Time World” .., it’s the next song on the ‘Destroyer’ album. ‘Detroit Rock City’ fades right into ‘King of the Night Time World’.., like 2 songs in one, which is the reason for the ABRUPT ending of this song.., it actually transitions right into “King..,” a totally groovy badass confident masculine unapologetic challenge to anyone listening.., ‘Yeah.., we’re the King’s...”

Detroit here. It IS rock city. I always took it for granted. My older siblings and friends made sure that I knew my rock history. This was required listening. Watch Tom Morello's speech when he inducted Kiss into the Rock Hall. THAT is the excitement that these guys fostered!

This came out when I was a senior in high school, 1976 - we had Kiss, Styx, Queen, Zeppelin, The Who, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and more all at the same time! Imagine turning on the radio and listening to this stuff all day long! Anything from Destroyer would be good, but Shout it Out Loud would be a good one.

"Beth" is a ballad but was recorded by drummer Criss w/o any of the other band members. Another big hit I remember is "Rock & Roll All Nite" which didn't become a major hit until they released a live version to promote their 1st live recording .. "Alive in '75".

Been a kiss fan since I was 8 years, I love all the albums that came out before 1980. I used to pretend to be Gene Simmons standing on the top bunk of my bed as if it were a stage concert riser. "They call me Dr Love!"

When Kiss first came out people thought they were a novelty act. That they'd be soon forgotten. Kinda like The Bay City Rollers ( that's another story). But Kiss stayed around, and around. The thing about Kiss was that it was never about the music but about making money. I'll give them this they gave a lot of new bands there shot at fame including Rush as backup bands. They said Rush was one of the most talented. Also said all Rush wanted to do was practice they would never go out and party with us.

Though not a fan, I do have a soft spot for Kiss. They truly know how to rock and perform spectacular shows. They certainly do have talent and I would say they are the rock gods of 'live' music. And they care about their fans. Oh and I recently learned that the makeup represents the characters they portray on stage. Anyway, a great song and loved your reaction to it. Best wishes, james:)

Love the review!! I'm so thrilled that I spent about twenty minutes on a 5 or 6 paragraph comment only to have it disappear... 😬 Ouch, well this is a much more condensed version, I've had toilet cleaner soaking in both bathroom 🚽.. haven't seen kitty 🐈 in a minute, but she does seem to enjoy a 🚽 cocktail from time to time and I can't risk that! But anyways real fast, Larry you're absolutely correct on Gene being a marketing genius, he's approaching half a billion in net worth!!!! He has set his family up for generations!..ok, I think you both should have came out in makeup for this one... Larry, Gene Simmons for sure! Ethan, Peter Criss for you! Ok straight up, their albums post make-up, I'd say 82-95 ish were much heavier with definite upgrades replacing Ace and Peter..no disrespect, but to big-time drummers and lead guitarist's...they would probably characterize their playing as average. Ok I'll stop talking, the sad part is I'm not gonna be able to go into the hilarious detail about my encounter with Ace Frehley at a record Store on the backside of the boardwalk in Atlantic city... Nov 92 MAYBE..my girlfriend at the time and I took a three day trip to AC just for some gambling and relaxing 😎...we were born and raised in NY, so it wasn't a terrible drive..long story short, we went into the store , kind of small and beat up, your typical record store, records and CDs up front, instruments in the back, I believe the store had just opened, it was a little after 10 am I believe, so very very light crowd at that time, plus it was Nov...you had the teller up front on the phone I think, a couple probably in their 60's sifting through albums , and then one guy in the rear messing around with 🎸, you know like any record store they let you plug them into select amps...we weren't trying to make eye contact with this guy, but I wanted to check out gutairs, we had our backs to him, maybe 3 feet from him...all of sudden, BOOM, he drops the gutair, instantly yells out, quite loudly' I'll pay for it" lol, not concerned that the neck of the instrument grazed both my calf muscles on the way down..I was pretty in tune with KISS, so when I heard him scream that, I didn't even care that he threw the 🎸 at me..in fairness he instantly turned his attention to us and was very apologetic! When I heard that voice, I said to myself "it can't be" at this point I believe the older couple had just left...so now it's just my girlfriend, myself, and the Teller, who I believe was still on the phone lol...oh wait, and Ace haha, the funniest part about this was when he yelled it out, you could tell that he was somewhat intoxicated..it's barely 10am...So that means he started early...we found out through conversation, quite a long conversation, he never stopped talking 😆that he had a show in Seaside heights later that evening...😳 me highest concern for him is his clear, but very jolly intoxication! I believe it was like ten hoursuntil his show..I'm hoping he was just out extremely late, and was going to bed shortly..bed by noon, up by 5pm..eat on the tour bus..seaside only bout an hour north up the Atlantic, beautiful drive, maybe 50 minutes ya know..if you push 80mph for half the drive. ..bottom line, great guy, who was once this iconic figure giving the two of us a 45 min conversation in a basically empty record store! this man that I grew up watching, ripping thru solos, I never thought years later he would drunkingly throw a gutair at me! Just an everyday guy , would give you the shirt off his back 😊the teller took a Polaroid of the three of us posing, great pic, I'm 6'4 so i was in the Middle , right arm around Ace, maybe 6'0....left arm around my girl 5'5...my ex girlfriend has this polaroid, it was carefully stapled to the upper left corner of the Kiss alive album, that we purchased before we left, he signed the album, there is a white border around the polaroid to where if you are careful and steady you could write a few words..and he did, to Dave and Tracy, love you dearly, ACE NOV 1992..my ex and I kind of lost touch over the years, no animosity though, just moving different directions, I got a few buds back home that may be able to reach out to her and possibly send them a screenshot, and they'll send to me, and I'll upload and add to this post.. possibly...she could be living in Egypt for all I know...she was close to getting her masters in archeology at Vilinova University...I'm shutting up guys, so sorry for rambling, have a great day!! 😊🔥🤘🎶🎤

I've got to admit that I'm not a KISS fan but it was a good reaction. I was dragged along to see them many years ago when they first performed without the make up, like Dad says it was for the Lick It Up album, and personally I thought it just exposed them as a bit of a mediocre/meh band. I always thought of them as a contrived band about marketing and style over substance. But, hey, what's important is that you both like them as a) it is your channel and b)...well, that's it really!😀 The world would be a dull place if everyone agreed on everything!

Eehh Kiss was just okay. Me .. I would never compare them to Van Halen tho. Ethan look at that album cover .. they dressed up like that, face paint & all every time they performed, even the platform shoes. Idk .. for me back then .. they were kinda scary to me. I didn't listen to them then. Now there's a few songs I like of theirs. Funny story now .. my then baby bil appeared to be headed in the wrong direction as a late teen & drinking a lot. I remember noticing he had posters of Kiss all over his bedroom wall & grew even more concerned about him. I kinda thought they were some what about Satanism .. not that they were .. I was totally unfamiliar with them back then. Plus always hated the way Gene Simmons wagged his tongue .. it was gross to this almost 20 year old. Lol. Anyway I'm glad y'all reacted to them .. I always believe in expanding ur horizons. Enjoy the wknd. Peace✌🏼🤘🏼❣️

Hi Ramona! I had my brother watch the reaction and I dictated his wild enthusiasm! I guess boys have a bigger interest in Kiss. I did like some songs and favored Peter Criss cause he was a cat and he did a beautiful song Beth for his wife. Hope you are fine! I just got back from a haircut!😊

@@ramonaalvarez7559 I laughed at Ethan saying it was weird how it ended. When my brother and I played it we'd cringe cause that's when the accident happened killing the narrator! The dolls were funny. But Gene Simmons bloody tongue stuff? Ew!

@@cherylreichardt BTW .. when virtual tv first started .. Gene Simmons & his fam used to have one of those shows .. following him, his wife & 2 kids. I agree that he is definitely a smart business man. But I grew kinda bored with his conceit & their "Hollywood" lifestyle .. couples face lifts .. stuff like that. Just so far off from the way many folks I know live. So I finally decided I wasn't watching the show any longer, too fairyland for me.

Sorry Larry, I normally agree with you on this channel but I don't think much of Gene's marketing genius. I recommend having a look at Donald Trump's 2008 Celebrity Apprentice USA (I think it was season 7 in the US). Gene was on that show and... let's just say he didn't win. Modesty prevents me from mentioning the fact that a Brit won that season, or even mentioning the fact that episodes 5 and 10 in which that Brit was project manager for the boy's team are TV gold. I'm still laughing my behind off 13 years later at Vincent (Sopranos) Pastore's fake argument and firing from the boy's team so that the girls would take pity on him and recruit him as a double agent, and Stephen "born again" Baldwin's refusal to pick up Vinnie's notes left in a 'dead drop' during a cigarette break because it went against his Christian principles! Gene was already gone by this time...

Kiss are good, but they aren't GREAT! They are more about putting on a show than playing spectacularly IMO. Nothing wrong with that...I still respect them for what they do, but you'll never see me add them to "greatest of..." lists. I have never seen them live but have heard they put on quite the spectacle. One thing for sure...they are excellent at business, making a boatload of money in the process. This is one of their catchiest songs...always liked Heaven's On Fire too. For my suggestion this time, here is a great classic rock tune Blind Faith with a live version of Can't Find My Way Home (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrB6oaRn36vHd58.html). Cheers!

Zero talent is complete hyperbole. True there are far better players out there, but they were plenty good enough to be professionals, and Paul was an excellent singer, as well as Peter. Great catchy songs too, although many were written by or with outside writers. They always concentrated heavily on the stage show and physical performance on stage, which may have taken away from their live playing at times. Ace Frehely makes a lot of favorite guitarist lists, not necessarily "best", but he has a signature style that many people love, and many famous guitarists were inspired by him, including Dimebag. There are several professionally shot shows from the 70's, not TOP qulity, but good enough.

I'm not a KISS fan. I do like some of their songs, but in general I've always thought they were/are style over substance. Plus Gene Simmons is kinda annoying.

Gene had a lot of cool effects but the energy came from Paul Stanley. Great front man.Check out some of the live video. “Deuce” is an awesome tune to Google. TechnicAlly they are all mediocre, but all together as a group they are solid, plus the showmanship. Personally I think the lyrics are always a let down to me.

I'm not really a fan of KISS, mostly because of Gene Simmons. I'm sure this has been discussed on the channel before because I remember a few people commenting with some negative Gene Simmons stories. I do like I Was Made For Living You, but that's about it. This song was a bit of a car crash. [Sorry!]
