Want the best TV smaller than 48 inches in terms of picture quality? We review the 42-inch LG C3 OLED, including comparisons vs last year's C2, the Panasonic MZ980 & the Sony A90K 42" OLEDs.
The "Includes Paid Promotion" message in this video refers to the sponsorship by British AV retailer Richer Sounds. If you're interested in getting the LG C3 OLED, please support this channel by considering buying from them:

Just got this TV to use as my monitor for PC gaming and honestly it's incredible, never seen so much quality in my life. The only complaint I have about it is the crazy reflections. As soon as there is a hint of light in your room you'll see some reflections and sometimes it's off-putting to see yourself while watching/playing something 😂😂 apart from that, amazing product and 100% recommend.

True! I had to return my C2 because the tint/uniformity issues were unbearable. I opted for the Panasonic instead and I don't know if I was lucky or what but the uniformity is perfect with no tint. Albeit, gradation is below average but I can live with that just fine.

LG's products are the most balanced in the OLED space. You can poke holes in them, they aren't the best, but they don't have huge issues that'll ruin your day. I respect LG for that but they've been so complacent in the midrange OLED segment, the LG CX till the LG C3 are essentially the same with only chipset changes, wish they would use MLA next year.

Being the owner of a 65" S90C (luckily with a 2nd gen QD-OLED) and previously owned several LG TVs, I can already guarantee that, for the same panel, LG is for sure miles ahead. Samsung processing is horseshit, I only went for it due to QD-OLED, and thank god I wasn't particularly fond of motion interpolation in the first place cos it's directly unusable - soap opera to 300% and stuttery as hell. The panel is a delight though.

I can remember Vincents review of the ST60! Crazy. That was my last high end TV and I'm thinking about getting an Oled now they're available for under £1000. I wonder if you will be reviewing one of the TV's in the entry level Panasonic MZ800 oled series? Given Panasonics slow retraction from the TV market I wonder if the legendary quality is still evident in the MZ800 line up? There is also a lot of uncertainty about whether it has a 60hz or 120hz display. Its currently priced at £999 for the 55" and its tempting to pull the trigger but with the S90c and C3 sometimes on sale for £1200 approx is it really the bargain it appears at face value? Hopefully HDTV Test can answer that at some point!

For those wondering (especially using as a monitor), in SDR this TV does not trigger ABL at all, no matter if the the image is fullscreen white. And regarding the infamous ASBL issue (auto dimming in dark scenes), this has been fixed on firmware 03.33.65 (July 2023). Also, ASBL in actual static scenes on C3 is much smoother/gradual than previous generations. This TV as a monitor is freaking amazing!

@@stevenhocking6407, only if the scene is really static and stays static for at least 5 minutes -- so your examples don't apply. Also, the dimming process is very gradual, to the point that in the beginning is really hard to tell it's happening; just move your mouse cursor a bit and it reverts to the original brightness. @@mpad680 It's a 42". I got incredibly lucky, it was a shelf display turned open box at a nearby Best Buy. The online price was different than the price in store, online said it was $725. It's working really well, though the ABL is rather noticeable when using it as a PC monitor and shifting between things with higher APL, like switching between tabs that have a dark mode vs a light mode. Other than that, it's basically perfect. There are a few modes for split screen, in the Multi View setting, it has side by side, picture in picture, and dual PC monitor mode. Side by side didn't want to use my laptop, probably because it's running at 1440p, but Dual PC monitor did let me show my laptop and my Apple TV next to each other, maybe fiddling with a few settings could get it working right. Two PCs should be what that mode is designed to work with.

@marcuscole8796 5 ай бұрын
Sounds pretty perfect to me ... as of 4K viewing distance calculators you need to sit closer than 11.9' to be able to see 4k details in the first place ! Too close is when being able to detect the pixel structure of the screen ... or when getting pain in your neck from constantly looking from left to right ;-) Content quality: for 4k and bluray (hd tv, etc.) your viewing distance is perfect ... some older dvd-content may require to increase the distance (basically for "transferred to disc vhs-content") ... OR ... generally avoiding such outdated material (that's what I do). Being already closer than the threshold of 11.9' leaves the (individual) decision between increased immersion (closer) or comfort (more distance for less head and/or eye movement).

Is it possible to force ALLM when using filmmaker mode? I have the c3, BTW I didn't notice an obvious improvement compared to my old c9, weird
@trevhib
@trevhib 5 ай бұрын
That's because the underlying tech hasn't moved forward, development for the C class since the C9 has all been fiddling around the edges (fine tuning of the processing, operating system etc). Not sure where LG can really go with it.
@cosmiczeppelin
@cosmiczeppelin 4 ай бұрын
Why did you upgrade if you don't mind me asking? I also have the C9 and don't see much of a reason to upgrade yet. QD-OLED probably needs another gen or two to mature and the WOLED doesn't really get much better anymore aside from processing improvements and boosting the brigthness slightly. If I were to upgrade, I'd probably go with a G series to get the MLA brightness benefit alongside the larger screen, but if things keep moving as slowly as they currently are, I'll probably keep my C9 until I start noticing some degradation of the OLED panel.

@@cosmiczeppelin hey cosmic, because I mostly play on pc+oled and the rtx 4090 had weird issues with the C9 like issues with hdr at 4k 120hz, wrong black levels, issues with Dolby atmos audio, black screen, probably some sort of incompatibility, that part is really nice with the c3

@fulalascaos9633

There's no way to turn this off on C3, but you don't need to. Using it as a monitor, as long as you keep the cursor moving every 5 minutes or so the ASBL won't be triggered. Also, ASBL on C3 is much smoother/gradual than previous generations.

funny, 2 weeks ago i was looking for this video. So I went my way and finally got 42 C2 with my mac, i was willing to use 14 days trial as free return option, yes i knew it in reality there would be no way home. Meanwhile found blackfriday deal for C3 so I switched it and I am glad I did. If I would be stuck on C2, for usecase as monitor theres no regrets, lg 42 oled is always great choice. Great tip from last video I found from HDTVTest was about sony image retention and burn in comparison to LG. LG everytime you turn of the tv small pixel refresher is going on, this helps in the longterm to prevent burnin, in comparison sony was more prone to get image retention and burn in. I dont get it, u buy these displays from LG and they dont tell u its wise use this function instead of relying on expectations of dev team visualising perfect buble scenario which comes as theory put in practice in the bad way.

to be clear. if your primary focus is console gaming at 60 hz OLED is a bad choice- the fast response time is too fast for 60 hz and a slower LCD will look smoother (just like plasmas look smoother than oled) if you want high refresh rates- 120 hz OLED is not fast enough to benefit from OLED. in fact a 240 hz OLED is a world of difference where you will experience much better motion
