Watch my 65 inch LG B8 OLED TV have it's faulty panel replaced after an issue with a number of dead pixels appeared after 8 months of ownership (NO BURN IN).
Watch the complete tear down from start to finish which had SHOCKING results!
Big thanks to the repair guys as they did a great job and completed the job in no time at all.

@@angelfiire4916 $3000?! Damn, so if you need a panel replacement after warranty it'll be better to buy a new TV instead of getting a repair... My LG CX 65 inch got a vertical red line since last week, so I messaged LG customer service but don't have an answer yet. TV is about 14 months old, that's so annoying tbh! Glad it's on warranty.

As a field engineer myself (gas) it was fascinating watching this from a different perspective. No shoe covers, no gloves, no dust sheets, tools and equipment scattered everywhere, no safety signs, no uniform, no earth strap, etc. So different to how I would work in a customers house! Surely you'd up your game if you knew you were getting filmed too?! Either ways I'm glad its sorted 👍🏻

Pretty poor show really, what if there was something in the carpet, a loose screw or grit which could damage the screen and just the overall lack of skills. I think calling them engineers is a cheek to any real engineers out there! When I used to do in house servicing I'd lay out a protective sheet, keep screws in a container and show some consideration to the house holder and not assume I could just use their floor as my workbench!

Why does OLED tvs have no back cover? The bottom box is directly mounted to the metal backplate right? The old LCD tvs had a full size plastic cover on the back of the tv. Why does OLEDs not use that? The circuit board assembly appears to be mounted directly to the panel itself. This results in a very fragile tv. These thin screens are very easy to get bent.

Thanks Paul! This got me to check my 55” which had two dead pixels. It had got a few more so I contacted support. They initially got me to run the pixel refresh which made it much worse, killing several more pixels! They want me to do four more but I think I’ll wait on that seeing as, given the lockdown, they want me to send the TV in for 14 days without any sort of loan TV. Post c-19 they’ve said they can come and do the replacement panel at home, hopefully more professionally than the chaps here! Anyway, the point being that without this video I’d never likely have checked so thank you!

Great that LG repaired your TV I have been in a battle from another retailer who are refusing to repair my LG E7 which suffers from screen burn in, there are OLEDs which suffer from screen burns but LG brush it under the floor. This retail promised a repair then 10 days later they said no we are not repairing. They were aware of screen burns, and the tv repair company told them that the tv had screen and the E7 has poor cooling system, hence why I had screen burns. Mirror has an article on these screen burn issue. LG are not telling the customers or the retailer about screen burn. What's the point of OLED if they are gone suffer screen burns. My case is now with the Mirror to get the retailer to replace the screen.

Great video Tech Giant! I had some burn-in a little short of 3 years (LG OLED E6P) and Best Buy sent a technician (I had purchased an extended 5 year warranty) and was told they didn't have a replacement panel in stock anymore so they sent me a Best Buy gift card for the amount I spent for the TV to buy whichever set I want! In addition, they let me keep the old OLED which is still very watchable! Definitely worth purchasing an extended warranty as long as the company you buy it from covers burn-in which Best Buy does. Good luck with your new set and thanks for always taking the time to put together these AWESOME videos! 👍 😊

Great content thanks mate. First observation when he was removing the old panel he was resting his hand on the centre of the panel to hold his body weight while trying to help his friend. Secondly considering we now know these panels are reconditioned/ second hand😨 is a worry because you would of invested in a new tv not a second hand one!!!. The other thing is why didn’t they remove the protective film on the back of the new reconditioning panel surly this would need to be removed because of it getting hot or even causing the tv to sweat causing moisture between the two surfaces or even cause dead pixels? Did the old panel have the film still attached?? More questions than answers . Thank god for the fire place they would of never found the screws in that carpet lol

And that is why I discharge the capacitors before removing the power board! I learned that the hard way, LOL. I've only had it happen a couple of times, and that was enough. If its a big capacitor, it can really hurt. At least these are not CRTs, which could actually kill you. Another thing I always do is to check the TV out before putting it back together. I have a USB stick as well as a HDMI adapter that allows me to plug in an old phone. I go through a few test videos I downloaded, and usually some of the pure color test videos like you have used. Nothing sucks more than to put together the TV and hang it up only to find the new part has its own defect. And if you had some real banding problems, or something else, I could have contacted LG tech support from there to see what they might do. Though they might not do anything unless the banding was extreme. LG has an app with a streaming feature, and if they cannot see the issue in the stream, they will not approve it. I have never received a bad replacement OLED, but I have received several defective LED panels. Or in some cases, the LED had a crack in it that wasn't visible before giving it power. Those were all Samsung, because Samsung uses the absolute cheapest shipping company they can find to ship their panels. Interestingly enough, I have only seen this dead pixel issue a few times in OLED. Maybe its just my area. Recently I saw the opposite, a bright white pixel, rather than a dead one. Most of my OLEDs have been for lines, no picture, or the burn in. That isn't to say I see a lot of burn in, its not a big problem. I would say a solid 80-90% of all burn in I have seen are from watching news channels. I have seen a few game HUDs, and a couple times where the burn in had no real apparent cause. The most common issues are not even the panel, like dead HDMIs or wifi or power supply, and that goes for all TVs, really. And to counter the burn in crowd, LED TVs have their own issues exclusive to LED, which the guys here kind of hinted at when they said everything breaks. LEDs have, well, LEDs, and LED backlights fail all the time. It used to be just an occasional issue, but then a few years ago I started seeing it constantly. I really do think that the TV companies have gone too cheap on their LEDs, and that is why it has spiked. That includes even high end LEDs. It is like they are racing to the bottom. While LG makes a decent OLED, their LED TVs are getting pretty subpar. I'm not too thrilled with Samsung these days, either, honestly I'm not thrilled with anybody, they are all doing something. Plus the newer TVs are constantly touting how bright they are, when that brightness may come at the cost of the LED life span. Like any light bulb you might buy, if you turn the brightness up all day, it will shorten its life. Higher Voltage produces more heat, which slowly breaks the diode down until it cracks. If you look at really bright LED light bulbs, they have heat sinks on them for this reason. You will also see many LED light bulbs packaging say not to use them inside enclosed light fixtures, that is also because of this. Think a moment...a TV panel is pretty enclosed, isn't it?

Always make sure large caps or cap banks are discharged. Safest way is with a properly sized resistor (aka bleed resistor), but it's not uncommon to do it with a 0 ohm resistor (ie. a wire, screwdriver, etc)....if you don't know what you're doing, best to leave this to a pro.

Great video, really useful. Quick question, I can see the back is screw less across the top is there a specific technique/order to snapping it off? Do I need a special tool to do this or will a small flat head screwdriver or similar do the trick to wedge it open?

Tomorrow I get a panel replacement for my '77 G2 I purchased on release. It has a bunch of sub pixel/ dead pixel problems. The process took more then a week because I missed their calls. You fill in the form, then they want you to send pictures and before you know it you get a call from a technician. I will definitely stick with LG. Btw did the technician check the service menu log?

It is interesting how burn in is not so common. It is good to hear from professionals who are out on the field dealing with multiple panels and finding that dead pixels are more common. I am so happy because oled tech is really quite amazing and the only draw back I have found is brightness and color saturation compared to q leds. I still prefer the contrast and detail of oled and the colors still impress. It is my forest lg panel and I am very happy!

They are sending me a new screen and a TV tech to install it. Thank You LG! I also have a 13 year old series 5 530 LCD 46" Samsung TV no burn in whatsoever. A beautiful picture excellent color and sound. The OLED LG picture is excellent but I fear we may see burn in again someday. We will only be watching movies on the LG from now on. No watching anything with a static logo like football or news. I hate saying this but burn in sucks!

Ger - it’s not a myth. Go search google with image and video proof. Even phones with OLED screen gst burn in. My mates phone is rampant with burn in since he plays Pokémon trading card game. If you got an OLED I dare you to leave static image on for a week straight. I did that with an LCD in a hotel room and there was no burn in but had it been an OLED it would of been fucked. You can stop uneven wear on OLED, compensation cycle can only compensate so much then burn in arrises.

Does each model has its own compatible replacement OLED panel? I have 10days old LG C1, and I noticed a dead pixel.on screen on Day 1 and have been fighting with company to replace the Unit as its brand new defective product. But the Service manager is saying that they might not approve to replace the whole unit but could replace the panel. But he said he is trying to get whole unit replaced as its brand new product and the issue exists since day 1. In worst case, if they only agree to replace panel, any idea what I should be watching out for? Like if that panel is actually a C1 model one or an old models one. Stuff like that which you could figure out from serial number on the back of the panel. Your insights into this are much appreciated. Thanks

I’ve had my LG C9 since early December and I had to have my panel replaced in early Jan. 2020 because a white vertical band appeared on the left side of the screen. I’ve since placed another service call because now I have a single pixel that is always red, the replacement was going to be done but because of everything happening it’s been postponed. So am I satisfied with my LG OLED... not really, it’s a bit disappointing when you consider how much we pay for these OLEDs, luckily I got the extended warranty on it so I covered for an additional 4 years after the LG 1 year warranty.

do they really give 1 year warranty for such an expensive piece of equipment? I want to buy a c9 65'' this X-mas and in Greece, as far as I have seen, all the stores give 2 years of warranty. To be honest Im quite a bit sceptical because there are tons of posts online about defective units and C9s just dying for no apparent reason 1-2 years after and lots of technical issues. So if something happens to my unit I would have to sent it back to the store which is more than 300km away on my expense ( that would be a lot of money). Now im kinda on the fence about buying one.

My Philips 55" TV developed a very bright spot just before warranty expired. After emailing them a pic they sent out a single engineer with a new panel. As soon as he arrived, the stated that a panel swap used to be done in the workshop and that it was possible that he could make the situation worse. After a lot of moaning, banging and groaning he popped his head round the door and said "told you I could end up make it worse". Apparently he had managed to get the old panel out with brute force and then cracked the new one trying to get it in. Upshot was after a wasted 2 hours and a ruined new panel, he ended up taking it away for a workshop repair. About a month later it was returned and pleased to say it is now good as new again. Moral must be, that major repairs should always be under workshop conditions. The whole repair episode must have cost more than a new TV would have done.

It seems most screens have dead pixels and we just have to accept it, to a certain degree. Looking forward to your next video, best regards from Denmark 🤙
