@@J4K3_Official It’s a circular problem. Politicians defund schools (and thus teachers’ positions and salaries) and allow companies to pay workers less (some of whom are parents) so then they aren’t teaching kids life skills because they don’t have the time or energy to do so. Kids then behave badly because they didn’t learn better or because the neglect or misguided or cruel attempts at disciplining them left (screaming at or hitting them for example) them with mental illness from trauma. Politicians then blame the current “culture” and fear monger for more ineffective and overtly authoritarian policies to keep their power. Those policies fail because kids behave when you teach them empathy, not fear, and the cycle continues.

The point here isn't about Thelma! I know we all love her, but she's a fictional character that is not likely to go away soon. The issue Laurenzo's bringing awareness to is all the real-life Thelma's whose jobs are being threatened, and who we need more than ever.

Let me guess, we have to increase our military spending... Many people don't know that the US military has never undergone a complete audit. If we simply just got their spending under control, we could drastically cut the amount of money that the military spends, while not removing any of the important expenditures. The stuff that would be removed for spending would be things like buying stuff that is not going to be needed or used and the storage space needed for the unneeded stuff. So many things could be done to clean up the unnecessary spending in that field.

@@noprimos5192 Even if you do believe most military spending "protects us" (most doesn't - most is just imperialism for corporate interests like oil in Iran), the military has *obscene* unnecessary spending, inflated both by weapons' manufacturers' lobbying and by the DOD's incentive to keep their budget growing every year (we are talking gold toilet seats, a $10 individual screw, ridiculous amounts spent on experimental weaponry that never works. etc.), and cutting the unnecessary things would have ZERO impact on the military's functioning. Look up episode 6 of the podcast "Pick Me Up I'm Scared." Even if you disagree with it, you should at least *know* what you're disagreeing with.

It’s not just public schools! I went to Summit Public Schools, which is a chain of charter schools on the west coast of the US. They have several MILLION left over at the end of the year, and yet they closed an ENTIRE school (with only about 4 months notice), and are cutting staff at the rest of the already under staffed schools!

What we need is to fix the structure of our education system to focus more on education and paying the people who educate more so it would be a more desirable position. I have taught in the past, and loved it, but that's not a viable option for a future family so I am now going to college for a higher paying position. The sad part is I think I would be a great teacher. That's beside the point. Pay the teachers. Administration shouldn't be lining their pockets over the people doing the work on the front line. Learning shouldn't take a back seat to tolerance. School should be the place of learning for facts and study. The job of the school shouldn't be to parent. The point of it is to be a rock that a society can be built on. If it starts trying to be something it's not when it already sucks at its original job then everything will fall apart.

1. You make a fair point, life and school should be seperate. Most "gay education" is just "its a thing". These just go farther. 2. My teachers... do teach about racism... its part of history and something we need to be aware of. (Source: my us history classes)
