Machining A LH Brass Bushing with Left Hand 1/2-13 TPI Threads To Fit Up a New Pulley For a DC Motor to be The New Power Source For a Model 14 Rockwell Bandsaw. I Then Pin The New Pulley To The Shaft To Become a Permanent Fix. I also had to make my own internal threading tool so the job didn’t get delayed while a new tool was shipped in.…hope you enjoy! Hey, it worked - wouldn't call it a bozo if you made it work the first time. I thought it turned out pretty well and the second pulley looks like it works quite well. A lot of the little stuff us hobbyists are asked to do is one-off stuff so we're doing everything for the first time on a good number of jobs we're tackling. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, a lot of the jobs I am requested to do is one-off stuff and sometimes requires a test piece for practice. Thanks for the kind words

Nice job, treadmill motor is going to be sweet. I’m doing one on my channel right now with a craftsman bandsaw from the 50s. I’m also going to build the motor controller which is really easy. I adapted one to my Bridgeport him head. It was a 3 hp. I kept the step pulleys and the original belt size. Plenty of torque. Enjoyed. Thank you for sharing. 👍

Wow nice job! Honestly I haven't figured out threading on my lathe yet so I probably would have turned down the threads on the shaft and made a simple bushing with a roll pin through it 😁

@@MakinSumthinFromNuthin grip the other side of the shaft in the chuck (might have to take the bearing off) and live centre in the front, then nibble away with light cuts Depends on the motor shaft too I guess, might not be able to do it with this if the commutator is in the way 🤔
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin 5 жыл бұрын
the other side of the shaft was only 5/16 diameter on the opposite side of the motor.....and the large side of the shaft had no center hole for a live center....coulda broke out a steady rest and drilled a center I suppose......but too much trouble IMO

Great work! Looks like he an use an idler pulley or two on there, not excessive flapping of the belt, but anything you can do to stop vibration is a good thing. A few duckets in your pocket doesn't hurt either ay.

Takes all kinds eh. L.H. threads are a major pain in the heinie. They shouldn't be but they have raised my collar many times. Good call on the brass. Steel and aluminum are just too unlike to behave well together. That and they readily corrode. That lathe of yours is great. Small but well tooled for sure. Being that a V belt should never hit the gullet of a pulley you could have used a set screw on that little fella but this should work ok or turn it around if you have room.Sweet job my friend !

A set screw into a "dimple" was the original plan, the customer felt more comfortable with a roll pin. I do too actually now that job is done :)

Since you have a MT adapter collet. You could have marked the spindle and the adapter with a sharpie then removed and replaced the adapter as needed.

Very true James. That crossed my mind, had seen others do it in other videos. I decided dragging the motor over was the better option for me to avoid the risk of having to try to pick up an internal thread to cut a few more thou.

I love customers that listen to the craftsman's advice. IT's the worst when they give you a dead-ass pulley and blame your craftsmanship and tell you to use titanium superalloy and you can only sell it for 1$ a kilo to them or ELSE!!! >:(

i believe you will find that you should have cut the threads off the shaft and then put a flat on the shaft and then put the pully on it. i found it to unscrew itself because a band saw turns backwards.

Are you seating your collets all the way on the nut before tightening? All my collets sit at east flush with nut, but maybe yours are different of you have already slightly loosened it. Liked
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin
@MakinSumthinFromNuthin 5 жыл бұрын
I pop the collet into the nut fully before tightening, I never paid attention to their relationship to the nut. I only have the one ER set, they all fall in the same place. The raw brass bar only had the .001 runout so the collet set is a pretty good one based on my experience. I never skimmed the brass on the OD

Makin Sumthin From Nuthin If you snap the collet all the way in the nut the face of it must just be a lil thicker than mine or something. thanks for the reply and the vid.
