Thank you for a superb video; I have been trying to make diving belt weights but so far have failed miserably; this instruction of the fine flour of play sand and cat litter will definitely work for me, so simple, effective and cheap too 👍

My biggest issue is air pockets... in the copper casting i made, They appear right under the ventilation holes. still trying to search around on the internet for deeper detail...

You forgot to include a place (port) on the case head that you can measure the bullet / case combo with a caliper blade. Also you need to expand the case necks (or ream) to .002" over the bullet diameter. The push rod you furnish will also not allow you to measure on the centerline of the case bullet combo. I doubt that 5/16" tap was able to work on the 223 case heads as the coarse threads will detach the base at the extractor grooves on the case. Ask me how I know. Grin. But nice machine work.

Never seen that solution before it worked. I thought you would have to use a hydraulic press to press it out from the inside of the chuck.

I had a friend who lost 3 fingers when his angle grinder blade exploded. Absolutely a true story. Wear leather gloves, and a face shield, when using that cutting tool. That thing is spinning much faster than you think. You have been advised.

The Americans dont realise that the original 'Greensand' comes from Southeast England. It's of Cretaceous age, a natural sand with a fine clay content and furthermore is actually green when freshly dug due to the presence of Glauconite. They think that they invented it and named it 😂😂

Battery acid is dangerous to work around in open air. The fumes can ignite and blow up the work area. Therefore, do not use a gas stove or work in area of one. Need to be ready with a solution to neutralize any spills. Wear a face shield as well to protect the face and eyes in the event of an explosion or spill.

From my Foundry experience, this is really a cheap, simple, and fast way of making Green sand. One thing that we do to reduce cost is use fine sand (your process) around the pattern and use coarse sand above it. This would help in two ways. Your fine sand requirement will be very small and coarse sand enables the gas pass through easily. After seeing this video, I have a curious question on a different subject. In my back yard, there is a 800 sq ft of easement. Weed paper and mulch didn't help me to remove weeds. Do you know this Green sand takes care of the weed as it contains clay?

Thanks, dude. i think this will help a lot. I've had a project that I've been doing for my friend and eventually thought that sand casting would be the best solution to be able to get it done. This video helps a lot. I do have a pretty complex design for it though so hopefully that wont make it harder for me. Thanks again

My theory is that the molten material reaching the air vent started to cool down to a point it stopped the flow from the material getting thru in the other side of the mold. Or maybe some impurities accumulating in that particular part of the volume. A very lucky "failed" pouring, as you said :V

Plan D, if all else fails... I once used a drill chuck to mill with an endmill. but the side load removed the chuck from the taper. They can't hold against a side load. Try putting in in a spindle and chuck a bar in the drill chuck , spin it and put a side load on the bar.
@Igotknobblies3 ай бұрын
Rather than the work involved in drilling, tapping, I'd have welded some scrap to the end, then if the old straight arbor was to be kept, then simply grind it off again.
