CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Max (Justin Cooper) makes a wish that for one day, Dad couldn't tell a lie"; the wish takes effect, binding Fletcher ("Jim Carrey) to the truth.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An attorney who tells the truth for 24 hours straight? This has got to be the movies! Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max (Justin Cooper). Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed. While designed to show off a warmer and more likable side of Jim Carrey's personality, Liar Liar still revels in the broad physical comedy that made Carrey a star in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective -- which makes sense, since both were directed by Tom Shadyac. Both Carrey's fans and foes will get a chuckle out of Swoosie Kurtz's tongue-in-cheek insult to the film's star in the blooper reel that runs under the final credits.

@@augur8261 she didnt do anything wrong, but not everything is about right or wrong, sometimes it is about action and reaction, if you want to control the reaction then you start by controlling your actions, it isnt how it should be, but it is how it is, if you choose to do something knowing the outcome could be negative then you are choosing the possibilty that it could could end up negative. If it does then deal with it in what ever manner you choose, but like in this case its weak to blame a guy for looking or thinking, now if he does something then yeah he is wrong.

@@timnelson7689 I might believe this if he didn't pull off that "lie" after beating himself up in the bathroom. He said that he was beaten up by " a desperate man at the end of his pitiful rope." If he always had to tell things exactly how they were, he would have been forced to say "I did this, I beat myself up." Instead he gave a bunch of facts, all true, without giving up that key piece of information. This proves that he was able to manipulate the curse in his favor without having to be completely honest. So, I think "I'd rather not say" would still have worked.

This scene really hits me. During my teen years, I loved spending time with my nieces and nephews. My brother...not so much. One of my nephews practically idolized my brother and always wanted to hang out. To me this will always be Jim Carrey's best movie. It combines some intellectual humor, great delivery, and just the right amount of physical/slapstick without being over the top. It never gets old.
