The ending of my second year of medical school is bittersweet because it means that I have to study for my first medical school board exam: the USMLE Step 1!
In this day in the life of a med school student vlog, we briefly talk about how it's like cooking in medical school. Finally, I share the resources, the strategies and my study schedule for tackling my upcoming medical school board exam.

I'm a med student from México. I just finished my first year and I have to say that I LOVE THE WAY YOU ORGANIZE YOUR TIME!... Seriously. I know that med school programs are quite different in each country, but we know that it doesn't matter where you study medicine, you have to be so responsable and dedicated at studying and the truth is that I'm pretty bad at getting organize my time. BTW... Your videos are helping me very much with that problem so I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'm sure I'll do well on my second year thanks to you. Good luck! I am taking the dental boards part 1 this coming spring (so about 10 months). I'm scared too haha because at my school, we only have 3 weeks to study AND take the exam from the last day of spring finals. The dilemma here is if I take 3 weeks to study, I won't get a break and would have to start clinic early. And if I take it too early, I might not do well lol XD

I#m doing my fitnesscoach education, my schedule is almost the same, but i will be done with the writing down end of june so then i "only" have to learn it and hopefully i will be done with the most of it in august :) good luck to you but we can do it for sure :)

The contents in Your videos are great role model to observe and work on. Please continue to post more. Also I wanted to ask your option on which physiology books/ resources should I be reading considering the fact that I'm a 2nd year undergrad student. Also, I wanted to learn abbreviations and signs on physiology terms that I can use I my notes and wish to know if there are online resources and book available on it.

I love how you've compiled the sketchy pictures along with the notes into a book. I have a microbiology exam in July and od its possible Id really like to save time . I've been watching your channel for a while... love it but no idea how you find the time to vlog in med school. The compiled sketchy notebook is genius... Our next module is ID and I've already purchased my sketchy access but a notebook to refer to would be step gold lol! Would you be willing to share the sketchy notebook file, one med student to another? Would be happy to provide you with verification on my purchase. I know it's a weird ask and I'd normally take the idea and put in the work to make my own version but you know how short time is in med school. Feel free to disregard! Hey, I hope the studying is going well. One thing I would suggest is to do at least some questions at the end of everyday. Not only will it help you get completely confident in navigating the exam questions, but you also bring to light of a lot of valuable information in every question. Just a suggestion, good luck!

Hi Jamie! I was wondering, is it worth purchasing the newest version of First Aid when it comes out in January? I've been told both not to purchase it since it is pretty much the same as the previous year and to purchase it to get a fresh, uncluttered look at the unannotated material. First, LOVE your videos and editing. Secondly, I'm in summer now of my sophomore year in college, and I'll be preparing for the MCAT which I'll take in the next year or two. Since this summer is going to be pretty slow, I'm wondering if you would recommend any subjects I should study early before med school? I've taken previous medical-related classes so I understand some basics like terminology and a little pathology, but I want to know more. Let me know, thanks!

+kakakaylee I think focusing on getting a great score on MCAT would probably be the best thing to do. If you haven't already, taking some biochem courses and psychology/sociology (now that they're included in the MCAT) would be helpful! Even in medical school, having a solid biochem foundation will be a huge help. Also, many students find the verbal section of the MCAT to be the hardest to improve on. I recommend working on your reading comprehension skills early on and it will definitely come in handy!

Hi Jamie! I recently just found your channel, and your videos always make me more motivated to work harder and be more organized. I just finished my undergrad junior year, and I have a couple questions for you. Do you know anyone in med school who was a psychology/social science or non-science major in undergrad? If so, how are they doing? (I'm a psych major.) Also, I am planning on taking a gap year after I graduate to get more clinical experience by being a medical scribe and to take time to study for the MCAT. +eatyourfriedrice hi! thank you for the sub :) the short answer to your question is no. As long as you're receiving good grades in a four year institution, medical schools won't really care whether you went to an ivy league school or a state university. the connections you make and the level of competitiveness/intense studying you will be exposed to MAY be different depending on where you go to college but I think overall the things that really matter are your grades, your MCAT score, and your extracurriculars (volunteering, research, etc). hope this helps! I will try to make a video answering questions like this more in depth in the future

+Josie Tsai just the videos, no book material. a lot of students in my class printed out the pictures to make their own sketchybooks. I didn't use the book at all last year during my microbiology course so the website is still super useful without the book-- I don't know how anyone memorized everything before sketchy! it's a lifesaver
