As an American, I find it fascinating to hear Julia speak English, sometimes with a British accent, sometimes with a Russian accent and sometimes seemingly with a blend of the two.

I love your videos. I’m not sure what attracts me to Russian videos except that it’s a very diverse beautiful country. I think that politics aside, we have much in common, and could be the best of friends.

I have a farm of Persimmon with around 800 trees in Pakistan and its the flat type as you mentioned. If you want to enjoy it, just keep it in open or even a fridge till its skin also gets completely softened and then enjoy eating it. It has the maximum vitamin C than any other fruit.

Lovely paintings, Julia. Am loving the tour inside your family's home. You have a wonderful, warm family, which you must always cherish. My brother and I haven't spoken in 30 years or more. Exercising with your sister was hilarious! It's December and there's no snow?? We grow persimmons in Australia too, as well as different varieties of mango. Do mangoes grow in southern Russia as well? I would think they might do well in certain parts.

Your videos are outstanding! You all are calm, easy going and I think you would be great friends to have and share with. I am really enjoying the insight into your lives, family and the communities you are visiting. I have visited many countries and areas, but I doubt I will ever visit , for a lack of a better term, the old soviet countries. Some of it is money, but a large part is the language. I want to learn, but Russian is very technical (difficult). I notice that there is great diversity in the people and cultures, but not in race. In USA, in my opinion, Race (primarily since 2008) has become a great barrier to community, unity and being at ease. So many people make their existence all about being the "victim" and being offended that tension is always high. How when everyone has a cell phone, tv, car, food, housing, are they "poor" and under privilaged? They are rich, self indulgent and lazy! Not what I grew up with, and not the "culture" I want to live with and/or in. Sorry for the rant. BTW, you call it a salad, and my family refers to these dishes as "side dishes", not the main course, not the appetizer, not the dessert, but rounds out the meal - side dishes. Love the paintings!

Not all... but most. I made my kids watch this video due to US schools teach that Russia is bad. I told them that there is much more to the story and to stop listening to all the propaganda. you guys always deliver a very interesting and enjoyable vlog to entertain us. BTW, a common salad here in the states is a chicken salad with grapes and other goodies, laced with mayo. Usually served as a side or as a lunch on a bed of lettuce leaves. (also try a cottage cheese salad covered with canned sliced peaches on lettuce leaves) Julia, you first painting of the birch trees is really really good!!!! I would buy it and brag that I have a Julia original. Matt, you may want to get Julia checked out. It was very concerning how she ZONED OUT in the kitchen!!!! Julia - I think you are right to call them salads. I looked up the the definition of a salad -a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables, usually seasoned with oil, vinegar, or other dressing and sometimes accompanied by meat, fish, or other ingredients. So they are definitely salads. 😊

I love this video. Is beautiful. I Was suppose to actually celebrate my birthday in December in Russia, but sadly due to obvious reasons rescheduled for another time. This video is the first time I see it, It made me very very hungry at almost midnight. I actually had to get out of bed and make me a French Toast. Not too healthy in the middle of night..lol. RE using a blanket. Nina Totenburg of National Public Radio did most of her morning reports at 4-6AM in the morning and she would go into a her bathroom and put a blanket over her head to record her reports. The bathroom removed all of the outside sounds and the blanket removed the echoes from the bathroom walls.

THE WORD Julia was looking for to describe the unripe persimmon is Astringent as I remember having one once in the UK and it made my mouth drier than a nuns you know what is seconds !

Her in Estonian those persimmon are called Hurmaa. When ripe or even over ripe they are delicious but when unripe...like you suggest they make you pucker your mouth with a dry bitterness that reminded me of both disinfectant and the taste left the sense in my mouth like the bitter sap of a pine tree! I ate an unripe rock-hard one many years ago, I cut into little pieces hoping that such action may help it ripen quickly - it did not! I tried microwaving some pieces and they were worse like eating newspaper print! However when ripe they are fantastic and juicy! Very excellent and friendly video.

Did you get the train from Adler to Krasnodar? Thought we could hack it, but decided to fly on our return journey for not much more cash 😂. It didn’t help that the conductor thought my bag was unattended, and therefore a bomb! - wife’s family are from Krasnodar, and we holidayed in Sochi (also the Adler zone) when we visit. I think because most people got off the train at Sochi main the conductor decided my bag was unattended. At least its nice that they take their train security as we take our airport security 👍 hope you have a happy Christmas (or two) and new year.
