This scene is very dark. I never realized it after I watched the movie the 2nd time. The island represents his mother's corpse. He subjected to cannibalism due to extreme hunger. The lotus in the forest is a recollection from Anandi, the lover he left in India, in which he asks her what does the unusual hand sign mean when she danced in the class. Everything makes sense, it all came together. The screenplay, story and structure of this movie is really ambiguous yet amazing.

This island reminds me of addiction. Empty promises. A false comfort gained, and then lost. And afterward, we are left with less in reality than we had before. That cycle of immediate happiness, filling a void, a hazardous, toxic happiness that is in reality, a beautiful lie. Eventually dissolving us if we get comfortable within it's grasp and don't leave it behind, to journey on in search for genuine happiness. I always think of addiction when I see this scene.

I think the most persuasive euphemism here, is that he was so hungry at that point in time, he resorted to cannibalizing the rotting corpses(the island resembles a person lying down). The flesh would sate his hunger(filled by day), but since it was rancid and spoiled, lead to diarrhea(taken at night). The tooth found also gives a hint to this. Another slightly different explanation, would be that the night and day difference was indicating the psychological damage of cannibalism, in which the sustenance during the day was exchanged for the tortuous dreams during night.

The island represented his mother's corpse (remember the tiger ate the orangutan and note the island had the shape of a woman). Meerkats, which never resisted and slept with him, were maggots. delicious roots where human muscle fiber. The pond with acids was his stomach. When he saw cook's teeth in this mother's corpse (he mentioned twice that the cook was resourceful so he must have consumed part of the body, and lotus is the representation of his mother shown by her first appearance in the movie), he shocked and realized he had gone too far. So he left (tying the string on the roots means to say goodbye, but it was too dark, so he always forgot goodbye).

@luciacano36863 жыл бұрын
@@anittamantees3776 you are allowed to interpret the movie however you want but if you are looking how the animal story connects to the version with people I think I can explain. So basically the tiger is suppose to be a symbol for pi survival instinct or ego, the chimpanzee is his mother, the zebra a wounded Chinese sailor, and the hyena a French cook. The sailor was wounded and had a broken leg so the cook convinced them to amputate his leg so it wouldn’t rot. Turns out he actually did it to use the leg as bait which upsets pi’s mom. After the soldier dies the cook guts him and uses it for bait eating some of the meat. This upsets the mom and they get into a fight after pi let’s go of a turtle they caught. The cook kills pi’s mom leading to pi killing the cook. After killing him he carbs out his heart and liver and eats them along with some flesh. The island can be a symbolic representation of him turning to cannibalism to survive. Some people believe t the animals on the island (I forgot what they are called) are maggots in the flesh and him eating the root of a tree is him sucking on the inside of the bone. Hope it helped!

He narrates it in the book as an "experience", whether he's hallucinating by then or actually in a mystical albeit physical phenomenon, we don't know, but what we're sure is that the author is not allegorizing symbolism. The trees are the cooks bones. The meerkats are maggots that came by the hundred. And when Pi found the tooth in the fruit, it was really Pi realizing that he ate almost all of the cook till he was left with his teeth. When Pi found out that the island kills at night, is really when Pi started having terrible dreams about what he did that it started effecting his mental and physical state. When Pi left the island was when Pi moved the cooks remains of the boat. Those are my thoughts anyway

I am not sure about the book, but the actual meaning, the story gors with god. When he gaves up the god appears im the form of island. The sleep man shape is a represenation of lord vishnu. And he decided to stay on the island, the god showed him the tooth, so that he can continue his journey and not stuck in the island. The god was always with him throgh out his journey. This is a visual representation of god.

The whole incident didn't happen on earth . It was another dimension created by Lord Vishnu himself ! Where the law of Nature science as we know it doesn't apply . hence all the mystical occurings. The first ever fish he caught when he aost starved to death was Lord Vishnu in the form of' Matsya' an avatar of Lord Vishnu which was pulsating in so many colours when caught especially blue ! The glowing ocean with projections of Pi's life , the calm ocean , the angry ocean all nothing but the Lord's leela or projections , showing we are creations of his cosmic imagination . ALSO the carnivorous island was the body of the lord . In hindu mythology Lord Vishnu floats in an infinite ocean which is the universe itself ! Richard Parker was an unlikely companion who kept Pi's will to survive alive !

Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta - The Divine Song (LORD KRISHNA) Chapter 8, Verse 18 When Brahma's day is manifest, this multitude of living entities comes into being, and at the arrival of Brahma's night they are all annihilated. The same thing shown in Life of Pi at that island and the island shape was of a human. Brahma precisely. Such beautiful creation. Pure magic and yet so calculative and logical. But people tend to live a life of complete ignorance. It can only be completed by love. Love could be for anything. But as Krishna says based on, Religious Principles. Here religious means the desired/the correct way. Religion alone here would be misguiding, it says religious principles. It means it should be done in the best way and for good reasons and for welfare of all. And best way includes all the aspect to human life. Because our Earth is an example of it. It gives us everything, but we in desire to take out each and everything out of it, we have ruined so many things along the way. We all our God, but individually nobody is God.

I’m sorry but that is The most stupid logic I’ve ever seen in my life . Read the Bible to know the truth . We are all not our own god , for we are simply a mere human full of mistakes and sin . But then yeh lord (our one an only god ) is here he saved us , open your eyes now to the truth . Of the son , father and Holy Spirit , and don’t give in to these lies of man and slither of snake . Understand that you are a servent if our lord god . A child if you will . Soon you will see it to be true .

The “island” turns carnivorous over night.
@b0wler9375 жыл бұрын
So, basically the water turns acidic and kills the fish then the island decays and eats them. The tooth was from someone who decided to stay there then died, so the island devoured him.

@Sachin Shambulingappa Most people don't understand what's happening. This entire movie is about the cannibalism that happened on the boat. The island is a representation of what he has endured. The island consumes life just like on the boat. The "animals" (humans) had to eat one another to live on their long journey. He was just a kid when this happened. He had to cope with such a horrific moment by creating an elaborate story to ease the pain of the trauma.

If you stay and rely on a toxic environment or a toxic situation for too long you will eventually die. The island was nice during the day but at night it became toxic. To think, how many hours and days and weeks will I stay in this place that gives me good during the day but takes it all at night? I realized it wasn't worth it and that I would eventually die sooner or later. So I decided to leave the island hoping to get back to the real world.

You are almost the only person who has gotten the gist...the events on island don't represent anything canibilistic. Rather it represents our dependence on safe areas in our life ,a poor job or relationship or person, which if it sustains us during the day takes all away at night by not letting us face the vagaries of world ocean on the basis of our own instinct and progress spiritually. So even safety of mother's love keeps us dependent on her corpse instead of go out to ocean and catch fish on our own.

Those who claim it's lord Vishnu or Buddha - you prefer the story with animals. Those who are saying it was his mother - you understand what is truth and mostly acknowledge that sometimes we choose fiction over truth and hence understand why people believe in religion.

It's a mass of plants and trees that forms a floating island that produces acidic substances to reduce the ph of the water and lure the fishes into those pools with its bioluminescence thus enabling the island to digest any form of animals to sustain itself thanks to million years of evolution

the island looking like a man is a reference to lord Vishnu . The supreme god in Hinduism. One that has no beginning and no end.i think it shows the mythological reference in which in one day of lord Vishnu the universe is created and again when night occurs according to his time period the universe gets erased from existence .all the gods and human beings and every trace of life dies. Then in morning Vishnu wakes up and recreate the universe . And this process keeps on going and there is no end to it.
