STAN EFFERDING - MATT WENNING ON DEMAND SERIES HERE:
vimeo.com/onde...
Deloading is for all lifters at all levels!!! Deloading will allow you to reach higher goals with your workouts you never thought possible. The top names in the game Larry Wheels, The Mountain, Stan Efferding, Chuck Vogelpohl, Stefi Cohen, Brian Shaw, Mike O'Hearn, and Eddie Hall all use some sort of deloading system. That's the stone cold truth. This doesn't mean you can just sit around every other week waiting for your body to recover into a new PR. What you need to know is when deloading is optimal is when you are at the peak of your form. You need to not just deload if you're completely out of shape. Yes dial it back if you're getting your GPP up, but don't sit back and relax, it's all about tapering your workouts and lifts to help you recover properly when your body needs it most!!!
So what is the secret sauce you need to know? Well it's all about deloading your body at the right time, and that's what Matt has perfected over his 25 year lifting career at the top level. So why are we deloading?
The body is made of organic materials, these materials and compounds are miraculous in how they recover from loads of abuse over the years. This is how we heal cuts, get over sickness, and grow stronger over increased load. BUT they can only heal when they're not always recovering from working out. It's about balance, and in this video Matt goes over how to balance your training with your deloading cycles!!! These cycles have been used in Westside Barbell under Louie Simmons but Matt has found a way that is BETTER to hit past your upper level plateaus. Deloading is complex but it needs to be explained so you can personally benefit from this secret all lifters know about but not many implement correctly.
If you want to know more Matt covers reps, sets, and schemes in how to implement this into your workout routine to get the biggest gains lifting more by lifting less!!!!
Thank you to all of our subscribers, we genuinely appreciate your support!!!
ALSO if you want to reach the next level find out how to fuel your body. Matt and Stan Efferding went in on nutrition on another video we just released. You can see exactly what The Mountain and Brian Shaw were eating to dominate the Arnold Classic 2019! Watch the video here for more information:

Knowledge gold! Up until learning this my “deloads” consisted of burnout. I just burnt out and lost my desire to train or I “tweaked” something, usually my lower back, because my stability was fried. This always set me back. I started deloading 12 years ago, still training at 64, and feel so much better.

Thanks, Matt. That’s about the right ratio. We all gotta hear this again. Don’t deload the 4th week, feel like shit. Was wondering why I could not complete those 6-week Russian bench or squat peaking programs. Can only kick ass through 3-4 weeks, or have to back off for a few workouts at the midpoint. And the old 12 week linear programs in PowerliftingUSA were even worse. Your point is taken. Your overtraining signs are right on: lose appetite, maybe get sick, don’t want to train, longer recovery between workouts, training weights go down, joint discomfort, loss of sleep and sex drive, feel ‘fatter’ or bloated. Hate all that.

Holy crap. I was just kinda watching and not really agreeing with you until just after the 4 minute mark. Those three points hit home hard. I have been powerlifting only for 2.5 years. I am a very old 42 but I did just capture the USPA state record deadlift for my age and weight. I was training 3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week sometimes. I continued to do that after the meet because the national record is in my sights and all 3 of those points have been keeping me down for the last 2 weeks. Finally, the last week or so I was backing down not because I wanted to, because I physically couldn't and what you said made the most sense of anything I have ever heard. Thank you!

Thank you! This sums it all up for me. I have to deadload and stop chasing the weight. After a few years of a lay off, (Went through a divorce and lost who I was) I started traning again 6 months ago. I started from scratch again. Edit 6'1" natty (not 6') 155 super lean. I'm at 190 now about 13%bf. Bench started at 95lbs for a few reps and now maxing out at 225lbs, Squat 135lbs to 315lbs max, and dead 225 to 365 max. I kept chasing the weight and I got small injuries alongside feeling like toast with a side of geing sick. Also lost my appetite. I decided to deload, start mastering high rep ranges (4x12), and once done I'll chase the weight again for 3w with 1w deload. Rinse and repeat!

I remember reading a Metal Militia interview a long time ago where the bench pressing brute said he trained balls to the wall for 3 weeks and took 1 week off just to let his joints heal. He said he felt so good doing this. It’s so hard to do because a lot of inspirational figures in the strength game say you’re a sissy or you’re not working hard enough. But Maybe a week is needed off every 4 weeks so we don’t get injured and turn into a sissy for 6 months. And then have to do all the restrengthening again. I think the key is to look at this like a 10 year plan and not what I can do in the next month or year. Especially for the non competitive lifters which is 99% of us. We need to think like tortoises and not hares.

Except he doesn't, updated 531 deloads every 7th week using the 7th week protocol, or even skips a deload and uses a TM test. Wennings deloading is for the older, advanced athlete that pushes accessories. Wendler manages fatigue very well even without deloading 1/4 of the f***** year

At what point in your training life should you start practicing de-loading? Is this only for advanced lifters? I'm 54 and been training for a year though I'm not new to training. I do need to sometimes take days off when I hadn't planned to because last year I got pnuemonia and it took 4 months to recover and I still get days of unexplained crashing fatigue and all I do is sleep which I think is my body still recovering. (Blood tests are fine). So my body decides to de-load for me by not taking any load at all! My weights are progressing up, though. Wondering whether planned deloading would help me.
