This is a fantastic video, Trevor - thank you! I can't tell you how much it helps to see the set up as well as the "after" shot. If I can ask a ridiculous question, and it's probably off topic and/or enough for a whole other video, but at 5:22 , how do you shoot both speedlights at once? Is that set up through the transceiver?

Okay. I'm late to the game but I have say this. The production value in this video should be the GOLD STANDARD for any product or process demo. The instruction is direct and without fluff, the examples are well done and easily understood and the pace is great. The talent is well suited for demos and has a good presentation style. As a video veteran I also appreciate the time take to cover (dissolve is fine) the jump cuts. Well shot, well edited and full of good content. Now. Am I a MagMod user? Not yet. I am, however, going to investigate their product line now. Well done!

The price of the snoot in the UK is approx $78. That's stupidly expensive for what it is. The fab box that it comes with? Completely unnecessary. Do I like the MagMod system? LOVE it! Just sad that it's so over-priced.

Your not just paying for "a bit of rubber", jeez why do so many people make these sweeping statements... Your paying for the R&D that it took to come up with this, the tooling, the advertising to ensure you can actually find out about it, for somebody to keep a check on quality control to ensure duff products don't go out and the service behind it that will be there if you need them, and ensures they have funds to make more products you will love. There is SO much more to to a fab product than just the cost of the materials, yet so few people understand this, OR, they claim to understand it yet still moan about it (Proving they don't understand it) The price is simply a reflection (See what I did there?) of the work that has gone into it and what it takes to get it to people all over the world, and have money to make more awesome products.

Thanks for these videos. Just wondering how far back your light was in the photo at 3:45 mark in video? Was this 1 or 2 grids? Also, for 9:47 how far back was light? Thanks!
@dayleyhighlights
@dayleyhighlights 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks @yomozingo - the light at 3:45 was about 5-6 feet back. You can see a pull back at around 3:29 in the video. It was just one grid. For the MagSnoot at 9:47 it was pretty close. I want to say maybe a foot away from the ring. I don't remember exactly though as it was shot at a wedding about 4 months ago.

Youre awesome man, question... How do you focus on a subject when you darken your image as much as you did on on that first outdoor picture you shared? If the image is too dark the camera won't know what to focus on correct?
@dayleyhighlights
@dayleyhighlights 6 жыл бұрын
Hi MrCuerv010 - thanks so much for the kind comment! Great question. If you underexpose your scene in the camera it can still focus because it's picking up the ambient light to focus. However, I have found myself in situations when the ambient was very low - almost pitch black, and in those situations, it is of course very tough to grab focus. A couple tips that will help: 1) Make sure you are shooting on One Shot (Canon) or Single Servo (Nikon) when it's dark outside. This setting on the camera will trigger your flash to use the red focus assist lights that will shine on your subject and help your camera to focus. 2) Keep a small flash light (pen light) in your bag. You can use these to shine on your subject when it's extra dark to grab focus. The other option is to use a cell phone flash light. At times, if I am very far from my subject, I will have them shine the light on themselves, grab focus (then switch to manual focus on the lens so it doesn't shift / or use back button focus), and then have them put the light away in their pocket. Hope those tips help!

At what power did you have your speedlights set too and camera settings for some of the examples you showed?
@trevordayley8082
@trevordayley8082 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chuck, it's hard to answer since every photo is different and unfortunately our cameras don't record the flash settings. But often times Trevor has taught that when the sun is still out he usually puts his flashes at around 1/4th to 1/16th. After the sun has set he usually shoots at 1/32 to 1/128th. It depends as well on how far away he places the flash from his clients. But hopefully that gives you an idea of the flash power he likes to use.

@CapMax206 5 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to get a similar effect to the shot at 4:23 with the CTO and lavender gels, but despite using the grids, I'm still getting a washed out photo or not enough color (depending on power settings on flash and how directly they are aimed at the lenses, and zoom settings on the flashes). The final image in the video looks great with the distinct beams of colored light and soft glow around. It looks like the orange is aimed downward and lavender is aimed upward - despite the video of the shoot showing the flashes aimed level at the camera. Also tried shooting indoors and outdoors, both in the shade/diffused natural light. Any advice?
@dayleyhighlights
@dayleyhighlights 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, it's just a game of inches, actually probably more like centimeters. If I were to go back and pull screenshots of the different shots I'd have some washed out and I would move my body just slightly one way or another and keep shooting to get that flash just right on the edges. Also a lens hood on your lens will help as well to keep the light from washing across the entire lens. I will see if we can recreate this in a future video and get into more detail about zoom settings, etc.
