3 жыл бұрынWent out for a nice, fun, and relaxing trip onto the surf. Water was pretty muddy, so the pompano fishing wasn't really turned on, but the whiting cooperated pretty good for us. We hand tie our own rigs for the surf. The baits we were using was Fish Gum and small pieces of shrimp. Most of our bites came on the Fish Gum by itself.

Whitings (we call them Mullets from where I'm from (NC outer banks) - go figure, since they are no related in any shape or form with actual mullets) are one of the best tasting fish ever ! Grill them on a pan with a touch of shortening, salt and pepper, and that's it ! Nothing fancy.. And also if you are fishing from a boat or pier, those little criters will try to rip the rod right of your hand on the get go, and make you think for some awkward reason, the initial strike of a 1/2 Lbs specimen feels like you hooked a 200 lbs Marlin or a nuclear submarine ! Good eating, fun to catch, you can never go wrong when they are ready to play !

Most of the surf fishing videos I see are super long casting off heavy tackle for real big fish. It's good to know there's light tackle surf fishing besides here in California, which I plan to leave when I retire relatively soon. Your whiting look kind of like our corbina and apparently behave similarly.

.What is a good rod to pair with the 3500, say 15lb braid. I will be casting lures into the surf, I want to cast as far as possible for drum, trout, flounder, but do not like the long surf fishing rods with butt extensions. (Length, action, etc)

What # line do you use on pompano and Whiting rig?

10-12lb. test monofilament, or 20# braided line. My rigs are tied with 20# fluorocarbon leader

I personally do. They all work great but Fish Gum seems to put out more scent
